I just watched Hijack and has some real problems with how the OCG seemed to run the entire planet and yet needed to sell short the stocks of Kingdom Air to make 100M. There has to be less moving parts for them to do this because otherwise the risk for this OCG is too high-ironically, that’s exactly what happens. But I also love Executive Decision!

Most of the time, sequels are not better than the original, and even if they are better, they are only better by a few points. This sequel is an example of one that is way better than the original.

The hard drive is not a mcguffin, it's a plot contrivence, because we see it. Mcguffin's are similar to a plot contrivence except we never see what the mcguffin is; think 'what's inside the briefcase in Pulp Fiction?' Great story. Makes for good television. 😊

I liked the show but it didn't stand out to me. I don't think I will remember watching it in a few weeks. I LOVED the queer love story tho. The whole family arch didn't really get to me. I felt like they only showed it to us so that Zoe Saldanas character seemed more human.

You analyse is spot on mate! Just subscribed👍🏻 Also (and spoiler ahead), what bothered me the most is, the show totally ignored the fact that the terrorists 100% got away with their intended plan! Yes the plane was landed somewhat safely and therefore the threat for the protagonist was eliminated (means he got home), however there were zero consequences for the antagonists on the ground who planed and set up the whole thing. They made their money and got away🤷🏻… if this was done with a season 2 in mind, there was way to little setup to let the audience know that a continuation of that story is intended!

Coming late to this, but really appreciate your comments, and the fact that you were kind about it. It’s really sad that today writers can get away with such lazy (and, sorry, idiotic) screenwriting just because “the tension is kept high”. Shows like these contribute to make our world a little dumber, and that’s not what we need.

could not make it past episode three and was seriously confused why it has such high ratings. it does feel bad to insult peoples' work like this, but the writing made this completely unwatchable for me. it establishes in the first 15 minutes that nothing that happens has any basis in reality or any consequence in the story itself.

  • @davidkoblentz

I agree with so much of your estimation, seriously over looked. and until you mentioned it I didn't even make the Rachel/Dune connection, she has such presence here.. all the acting is top notch actually, and the world building is excellent.. besides that the "fill in" effect, they build a world and then fill in the details as they go.. so realistic.. you learn more as you go making you more invested each episode. you hate tim robbins but then love him within a 3 episode arc.. that proves how good the show is...

"Succession" is the quintessential example of "rules are meant to be broken". The show works only because every so-called "good" writing technique is examined, questioned, and dismissed in favor of finding something truly new and authentic to say. In that sense, it's the show most akin to "The Sopranos", which itself made its name breaking a major rule: its main character is truly and utterly evil.

Hah, appropriate! 🤣 And yes, the first officer’s disappearance act is a classic example of one of the many fairly standard plot holes the writers didn’t have either (a) the time, or (b) the wherewithal to fix. So they just ignored it and hoped you wouldn’t notice if there was enough other batshit stuff going on.

Yes yes yes very well said!!! Incredibly frustrating watch. Some of the fundamentals so disconnected from reality that it became impossible to believe any of it. But can we talk about how the hero keeps making bad decisions and giving bad advice yet with an air of heroic wisdom and confidence? And it's kind of glazed over when he later goes 180 on it himself.. When a protagonist makes mistakes you kind of want them to feel meaningful in some way, be it to highlight a personality flaw or room for growth etc, but he simply does stupid shit with a heroic sounding low whispery voice and never gets called out. This wouldn't be good enough for a 90 minute feature film. Yet one full season? Oh wait TWO SEASONS???

I really enjoyed the show, but there are few questions bothering me. 1. Why did Holston decide to clean? He knew the screen wouldn't change regardless if you clean or not. 2. Why didn't the builders add a wiper to the sensor? 3. How many helmets with VR visor were made? Is it going to be sufficient for the intended duration? What if they run out of them? 4. Why are there only 4-5 bodies outside? In 140 years only 5 people went out? Why haven't the bodies decomposed? I understand the suit wouldn't decompose because it's synthetic material, but the suits aren't flattened, soft tissue would have reduced the volume of the suit by a lot.

The biggest one here is question number 2! But you have to assume it’s a device that’s intended to get dirty, to create the spectacle of punishment and reinforce the sense of collective duty for those still in the silo. Staving off rebellions is the number 1 priority (as we will discover) so any form of social / mental manipulation that achieves that is logical.
