I like your reasoning The philosophical issue behind has been, how did we find ourselves here? This is a very important question to just it rub off. Creationists believe God created the universe. Most scientists it's the big bang theory. Then other scientists it's the simulation theory. Each of these lack in some ways. The big bang theory though supported by main scientists lack on something coming from nothing. And why the universe is so fine tuned. Creationism is considered a fairy tale by most scientist. To blend the two opposing theories the simulation theory seems to the right answer. Yes, it's due to the computers that we think of the theory as you said, without computers we wouldn't even think of it. But also imagine there are beings millions of years ahead of us with advanced civilization. Can't they create a reality so advanced like our universe? The theory also has unresolved questions as the video states. Still there is the actual truth out there. Wether creationism, big bang, simulation theory or what we don't even thing of. It is likely the case as the ancients in higher ages perceived that all is consciousness with mind at different rates of vibration. It likely will be way into the future in a higher age before vibration (at different rates) is understood and the role it plays in creation; maintaining; and dissolution. At that point it will be a bird’s eye view of reality rather than the worm’s eye view that prevails now. The difference between the infinite and finite; the eternal and the non-eternal is motion; without motion there is no time. Time comes out of motion. It is one of the ‘beasts’ of St. John’s Revelation. The four beasts: Motion; Time; Space; and the Atom. Without them there would be Unity or Heaven.

Little, other than matter, will be known or understood until materialism is seen for what it is, just an understanding of the elemental or matter. We live in a material age and materialism controls the narrative with few exceptions. Now it is seen as there being only one dimension and all arises from that one dimension. Darwinism and all else after The Dark Age was incapable of getting it right, and they did not, including the human evolving from its own unique human prototype; an error which is reductive as all materialistic errors are reductive. It may be some time before the extent of the forces are understood and the role they played; electricities; electromagnetism, and magnetism itself. It has been said that it will be a couple of millennia yet before magnetism is understood, as it is a total mystery now. Unfortunately, this erroneous worldview has entered the Western mind and tradition and future generations are being programmed with it; except for those who belong to a religious tradition or those who investigated the worldview of higher ages and like WS saw that was the truth not the assumptions of a lower age perspective. We consider ourselves knowledgeable because of understanding of matter; the splitting of the atom etc. but realistically without and understanding of consciousness as fundamental and how Mind is elemental emerging with quantum events we are clueless. Understanding matter will bring benefits; boons and banes, as they are conjoined, but it will never bring wisdom. We might as well be computers programmed with information but without a connection to the universal. We are far away from Da Vinci’s vision of man as the center of the universe (through human consciousness) as a worm is from a cosmic vision. That is what a materialist perspective in a material age does to the human mind. Science does well with matter but a broader view is necessary to understand the nature of reality in its totality.

I would suggest that the large system's contents evolve, however the ground and holding space of the contents do not, so consciousness could never stop only the contents can change Evolve or devolve that we witness and take part with the virtual reality headset. I also would suggest that our free will attention and intention has a limited capacity, and that our will can only make changes within the contents of consciousness to a certain point, and that there is a higher intelligent field of consciousness that guides things such as weather , tides planetary movement etc just as we have to relate with other individual units on consciousness, we also have to relate with the other fields of consciousness, thus letting us know who is really in charge and that is not our ego. This prevents inflation. We have free will to a limit the rest is up to God or the larger field of consciousness. There are other types of consciousness within our individual unit of consciousness that are not ego consciousness such as our instinctive drives jaak Pankespp's work on the 7 basic emotional INSTINCTS is a good start to read upon to understand this. This would explain where the thought that arises for eating comes from or the thought to reproduce etc.

Your definition of Free Will, as put in your article in American Scientinst (2020) is in my opinion a dealbreaker; in the sense, that most modern philosophers, of the kind of Harris, Dennett and the lot, are either for or against free will. I think most people project the complexity of the content of consciousness onto consciousness itself, whereas that may not be the case. Consciousness as the ground of being (Kastrup) might be something quite trivial in and of itself, whilst its content may be complex, emergent and subject to physical/information processing laws, perhaps along the lines of what Stephen Wolfram is proposing with perhaps the disassociated individual consciousnesses of Hoffmann making up the nodes of the hypergraph. The irriducible computation cellular automata of Wolfram under the rulian giving rise to the perceptual content of individual consciousnesses (Hoffmann's headset) but not the subjective aspect of it which is the province of the disassociated consciousness with all the qualia that goes with being a separate conscious entity. Time: The nodes do not necessarily spontaneously manifest within the hypergraph (birth) and spontaneously disappear (death) but rather shift location within the hypergraph, yielding a kind of random entropy, but not necessarily one from a quantum foam of the consciousness ground of being itself.

These are accomplished by having electronic and mechanical sensors. Sensors are the essential elements. A coke machine can sense a coin and drop a soda in response. It is conscious at a low degree. We are unconscious to X-rays. We go unconscious when a drug takes our sensors out. Consciousness has degrees. Without real proof, many contribute consciousness to quantum effects which are everywhere including processes in the mind. However that does not mean it is the only source of consciousness if at all.

Just learned about this computer scientist. Interested in understanding his views. To me brains have neurons, we call the ability to process information a mind. That it simply arises from matter in reality, such as quantum. I have found that a species of worm is said to have the simplest brain with just 300 neurons. I wonder how few neurons are needed for awareness of self? I’d say these neurons are used for a function of sorts for sure, such as finding food for survival… but I’m just speculating on this

Physical beings arguing consciousness is fundametal (universally so) seems entirely counter intuitive. Its kind of like saying we as autonomous entities are discrete unitis, yet commensurate with the whole. But the whole is not the sum of it's parts. So Hoffman seems fundamentally wrong but i can't get what Katstrup is propising with this shut your eyes and tge world ceases to exist stuff, if i understand in ge least. All we seem to have access to is the material world. Thought is mysterious but seemingly emergent from wetwork. There are a million flights of fancy about whatever the hell consciousness is. I would just like to say, in respect to one of your final questions, Bernardo's analytic idealism has had a profound impact on my life.
