      @@archerscherer44 it's a ferrule turning arm, you can get them at golfworks.com. I put a Popsicle stick wrapped in felt for a brace on the back. They don't come with one for some reason. I find it better to work with. Many turning belts have a built-in now.

    I need to remove a Ping Man standard grip from a putter so that I can cut the shaft down an inch. I want to use the same grip when replacing. I don't want to damage the grip as they aren't cheap. How do I do that?

    • @Chris_the_golf_guy
      @Chris_the_golf_guy 2 года назад

      The ping man standard grip is rubber so this should work just the same but be a lot easier with no damage. If the grip is old and a little bit hard, a solvent injector would work better to loosen the grip and pop it right off.

    Thanks Chris. Just found your channel and your content and descriptions are second to none. You got a new subscriber in me 🤗. I’m just an avid DIY guy and I’m about to reshaft and ferrule a set of new (to me) PXG 0311T’s and really want to go with the old school 1” colored ferrules with the two stripes ( similar to Hogan irons) but after pulling off the 5 iron head, I noticed that not only are the hosel bores very oversized (my .370” shafts have plenty of wiggle room without the epoxy and ferrule in place, and I also noticed that the top of the hosel is even larger as PXG uses their own proprietary ferrules that have a really deep collar that ensures the shaft is centered and snug. My question is, do you think I will be alright using aftermarket colored ferrules without that collar, so long as I am using brass shims to take up the extra bore space (despite the fact that shafts are already going to be .370” parallel tips) and some shafting beads mixed in with a slow set epoxy? I hope this makes sense. I asked on Golfwrx and the consensus was sort of split. But I believe most club builders said I would be fine. Curious to hear your thoughts. Anyways great channel, and cannot wait for more vids. Can u do one on how to remove a Graphite shaft from an iron, as I totally ruined my 5 iron shaft because I figured I could use a torch just like I would with steel shafts lol 🤦‍♂️. Thanks Chris

    • @Chris_the_golf_guy
      @Chris_the_golf_guy 5 лет назад

      Thanks for the kind words, Sean! To answer your question, I think everything you're planning should go well. Many players and builders have a stigma about using shims in building, but its really not a bad thing. I use them all the time. As you found out, one of the hottest and most expensive brands in golf is very dependent on the practice and they build it into the vinyl ferrule! It's not even brass! If you're using a 370 shaft tip already there will likely not be any room for it in the tip but you did say there was wiggle room so it's worth a shot. It should be ok. I would use the fit size shims from the golfworks rather than a "universal" shim that squishes in as the static size shims tend to hold tighter. I've also done a custom "collar" by turning down a ferrule to the diameter needed and cutting it in half before applying. I'm working on some new stuff as I get my shop re-organized from. Bumper season and can definitely start with your graphite shaft extraction!

    • @seanmullins5982
      @seanmullins5982 5 лет назад

      Chris you're the best. Thank u so much. So I think I'm just going to give it a go with regular non collared ferrules so long as I can get a tight fit utilizing the shim that u suggested. (Idk exactly what type u are talking about so if possible could u send a link). And shafting beads. I'm also a slow smooth swinger of the club (66mph with 7 iron)if that matters so I doubt a head would fly off just because of the lack of the a collared ferrule Anyways I'll definitely be looking forward to more content. Especially that graphite extraction. But I'm guessing a special puller of some sort will be needed

    How do you make sure the grip is aligned properly - particularly ribbed grips?

    • @Chris_the_golf_guy
      @Chris_the_golf_guy 5 лет назад

      Just the same way you would if you were using the traditional tape method... actually it's a lot easier to line up a ribbed grip because when you use air, they tend to seek "neutral". If it's a good quality grip, holding on to the butt end and giving a burst of air should "settle" the grip into a good install length and align the spine. You can just turn the butt end from there and repeat to walk it into position.

      @@wayne9845 I believe I said it in the video but I cannot stress enough to start low and slow with the air. Depending on the makeup of the grip and the compounds used, some bubble very easily and you don't want that. Good luck!

    • @Chris_the_golf_guy
      @Chris_the_golf_guy 5 лет назад

      @@wayne9845 I saw a notification with your question but can't find the actual Q to A... If it wants to "just come off" and not go on, that means you've got too much pressure and not enough water. Dipping the tip into water provides a little lubrication so the air can escape. Lower the pressure so you're only using enough to create the air cushion.. once the grip starts to move, don't put any more air in until it stops... Think Air hockey table, not powerful hand dryer when it comes to pressure. It will vary for each grip material but you'll get the hang of it. Short, controlled bursts work well too.

    • @wayne9845
      @wayne9845 5 лет назад

      @@Chris_the_golf_guy no problem! I actually deleted the reply once I figured out to do exactly what you said. The grips that I purchased have a little stronger reinforcements at the club end of the grip, so it took a little more pressure to get that air cushion to allow it to slide on. I did it without using the double-sided tape, so let's hope that they stay on. So far so good!
