What Happens During an X-ray?
An X-ray looks for fractures or other bone damage. The hand is made up of many small bones and an X-ray is often needed to accurately diagnose an injury.
Our partner the Calgary Sport and Social Club helped us demonstrate what happens during a hand X-ray. This video was filmed at our Market Mall location which offers walk-in X-ray services Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In total, Mayfair Diagnostics has 12 X-ray clinics in Calgary, and one in Regina.
Please note, X-ray is not offered at our Cochrane, Saskatoon, Southcentre, or Sunpark clinics.

I just went to get a mammogram today. The lady called me over and she said, if we dont get your mammogram from last time you did one he wont read it.WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I do not understand. Why cant they just do it and if something shows up, something shows up. I left the office with a few choice words! I had the office send the last place a request for my records. Apparently, they didn't send them. I wanted my records from another hospital because they did a MRI i asked twice, they wont send them. I dont understand all this. At this point i really dont care. Im so mad!! I don't think they really care!

This video makes me feel a little bit better. I get my first mammo tomorrow. The amount of compression is something I was concerned about because I have low pain tolerance.

I had tuberculosis(MDR) completed treatment of 9 months. I was diagnosed through X-Ray Found infection in my right lung. My Doctor stop my medicine without any test. Should i go for X-RAY or Ct-scan to know the results of my lung condition, how much it healed???? Suggestions please🙏🙏🙏

Hi @michaelarsenault4337, so it's really about comfortability, and it depends on what people are wearing. Buttons may show up - scrub tops with no buttons aren't an issue. If someone comes in a t-shirt, or golf shirt - or something without buttons - they don't need to change.
This tech should be promoted to a HR training facility.
How am I supposed to exercise without a bra
Hi, to answer your question: Any kind of garment that has a tight band under the breasts will rub against the ECG electrodes and create artifact that makes it difficult or impossible to interpret the results. Most people who exercise on the treadmill do not end up running- the pace stays slow enough to walk until 12 minutes for most people, though some people with shorter legs might need to do a light jog at 9 minutes. In general, people are on the treadmill for 6 - 10 minutes depending on their fitness level but it can be longer for those with greater cardiovascular fitness. Exercising without a bra can be uncomfortable but it is necessary to ensure the most accurate results possible. Hope this helps answer your question. Have a nice day!

Does having hardware from the knee to ankle affect the procedure? Or is it even possible to perform the full body scan with the hardware therein?
Hi @pamelaharris4540, the area that's being scanned needs to be in the middle of the magnet. Depending on the patient's height, their head could still be outside of the zone itself. As for if the replacement interferes... if it's ceramic no... if it's metal it might cause what we call "artifact" or flares but we do them for patients quite often that have had TKR or THR. Do they have to put you all the way in ? If it’s just a pelvic exam
Hi @neatjohnson3069, for pelvis we generally do whole body imaging. For part 1 - the patient's pelvis is placed under the detector for a 2 min image, however when they return for part 2 we would start with their head under the detector for 2 1/2 min, and then they would slowly be pulled out to scan the rest of their body over 12 min. We often (not always) would do a SPECT/CT image following that where their pelvis would be in the detector for the first 10 min, but then their whole body is pulled into the back tunnel for about 1-2 min.

I've has annual ct lung scans for years monitoring a small lung nodular..and abd ct scans with and without contrast..the contrast is different..it does feel warm and you feel like you will pee or poop..lol..but You won't

Had one today. I have to say that it’s really exhausting in comparison with a brain mri I had twice. They will tell you to hold your breath a lot of times and it makes it even more exhausting imo. They also gave me a radioactive tracer through my arm vein so I had to keep my arms next to my head for 40 minutes. They had pretty good music on my headphones tho 💯 recommend 😂

why aren't the scans WITHOUT contrast doen FIRST to completely avoid having to return 2-4 hours later?
Hi @johnruuu, bone scans require an injection (a radioisotope, not contrast) and imaging is done post injection (2-4 hrs later) so that the isotope can circulate through the body. Respect, can endometriosis lesions and nodules be seen on magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and pelvis, without intravenous contrast? I am prone to allergies, the contrast is nephrotoxic, and I have endometriosis on my kidney, which hurts terribly during ovulation. I also have ovulation and menstruation rectally and vaginally. The examination was performed without contrast. Someone says that a real specialist can see the changes, others say that contrast is necessary, I'm interested in your professional opinion? Hi @baccon_321, Gadolinium is NOT strictly necessary for the detection/diagnosis of endometrial deposits in the superficial or deep regions of the pelvis, or elsewhere in the abdomen or pelvis, and can therefore be seen and reported on a non-contrast MRI scan. The typical MRI sequences we would need to detect/diagnosis endometrial deposits are a T1 weighted sequence performed with fat saturation and a T2 weighted sequence without fat saturation. Gadolinium does have utility in detecting a known/prior endometrial deposit that is or has undergone malignant degeneration (i.e.: has become cancerous), although this is a rare occurrence and would not necessitate routine administration of gadolinium unless there is clinical suspicion (from a specialist gynecologist), as well detection of ovarian malignancy. I hope this helps a bit. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
