I had one, they are great lathes. Basically, the same capacities as a South Bend "heavy" 10. The overhead drive makes it super compact, and easy to change speeds. Sometimes I wish I'd have kept mine, but my Cincinnati Tray Top is quite a bit more robust, and doesn't need any more floor space.

I can't find rosin cheap on line. Im not in the US or Europe or anywhere where good shit is easily available. Other thing is...if I do order online it's from overseas & sometimes only huge bulk orders are allowed or the shipping costs are through the roof

Sounding thick, but do you just walk round trees and identify leaks, or do you have to make a small incision in the trees?

You mentioned the plain bearings were like brand new. When you pulled the bearing caps, were there felt wicks in the oil grooves, inside the bearings. I’ve worked on a lot of babbitt bearings in a wide variety of industrial machinery. However, I am completely green, when it comes to wicks in a gravity fed oiling application. Any advice, would be greatly appreciated.

I have a small tub of Stockholm pine tar. Can that be used?

Was hoping you would test the douglass fir flux on the wire. Have you tried it? Is the pine superior? I have lots of doug fir, not so much pine around here

Have you compared the two rosins, pipe and fir. Which rosin does a better job for soldering of the two ????

Oh ok. I just added isopropyl to the pine sap and noticed alot of it dissolved but a few gummy chunks didnt. Most of the dirt settled to the bottom and ive just been pouring off the top, if you heat it to 300 how much sticks to your pan? Seems like it would be hard to clean.

Hi Bro I made this Kind of flux liquid as per your video however it turn out to solid state, leaving alcohol on top, it didn't dissolve well. After 24 hours it became solid stone like.

I want to see tree rosin from multiple species made into rosin, different recipes, what percent alcohol, alternative solvents, different additives, how to filter, temps, times, different viscosities, application methods, and how to clean up afterwards (nothing removes pitch like oil) and more in depth information. Hey! I just saw your video. I also made some rosin flux, but a liquid. I used 75ml of isopropanol alc (99,5%) and 17 grams of rosin flux. The rosin was in a little round metal box and it was hard as stone. So I put it on my stove and after that I could pour it into a 100ml pharmacy bottle. Then I mixed it with the isopropanol. I paid 1€ (I think it is equal to 1$) for 20 grams of rosin. Greetings from germany!

Thanks for the video & great to see you have a fire extinguisher nearby, especially when heating alcohol, BUT it's not placed in a good location. If anything catches on fire in a pot or frying pan (especially fat or oil) the flames & spitting oil will prevent you reaching through the flames to reach the extinguisher! Attach it to the wall well in front of the stove.

If you add a couple drops of glycerin into the process of making the flux it will keep it from smoking so much

I seen one recipe that used acetone also with the IPA.

It's also NOT an abandoned cemetery. It's been under the responsibility of the neighboring Tacoma Cemetery for 100 years or so. To be abandoned it would have to have been unused or tended for 100 years (the last burial was in 1928 due to a law against further burials) and once designated, it would then be available to developers and other exploiters to fill in or worse. It's a serious part of the county's history and should be acknowledged as such.

You don’t have to heat the alcohol to get it to mix, just let the mixture sit in a closed jar and give it a stir after a while and you should be golden. I filter out any crap first though.
