The Matrix Awakens | Vulkan | Gentoo Linux | Wayland 2024
This demo is my port of The Matrix Awakens. It’s the same build I showed last time, but now it’s running under Wayland with VSync, so there’s no more crazy screen tearing.

Notes:

In this video, the frame rate is locked at 30 Hz/fps due to performance when recording, and some frame drops are present. However, when not recording, the demo is much more stable.

This is the first prototype of a material system intended for use with environmental props and large gameplay props the main point of this method is to maximum flexibility mixed with the fact no texture used excused 512x512 and the main tiling material for the rust and metal are 256x256 maximizing memory uses with results better then a 8K bespoke texture set

Love it!!! Great choice of music too. Stan Bush - Dare, gets played a lot in my car 😊
YOOOOO UEFN ON LINUX 🗣🗣
How many draw calls do have for that kind of layer material?
at the moment it's a bit high but I am running 11 layers and a large assets and it's still faster then a standard material
@@JohnLogostini wow that's impressive! Really good work.
Would you be so kind and share some resources how you build this? Or even make a tutorial? That would be awesome!
At some point I probably will however at the current moment it's in active development
This is awesome... GG!
thanks man
Tysm Mate, I'm using mint and everything worked PERFECTLY, Cheers
Is that a hangar entrance?
Yes it's just a block out but LevelCap made a way better version
hey! so this (kind of) works, it goes into the unreal editor but then it just automatically crashes after like 2 seconds. Is there a way to fix that?
changing it to proton 8 fixed it
When i check files .local and share theres no steam
Are you using Flatpack Steam?
@@JohnLogostini nevermind i found another method to get uefn (i used lutris)
Liar
?
i know your always busy but could you make a long detailed guide to run fortnite on linux ? and if you do i might be able to run fortnite on linux
I can and I will but do note it only works part of the time for me as Epic is always braking EAC
@@JohnLogostini yeah i understand but ill do some testing too and i might be able to crack it down and be able to play online
can you make a guide on how you did it so more people could maybe play fortnite on linux 😊
It's not fully playable but yeah I can
@@JohnLogostini thank you!!!
What happened to fortnite on linux?
Working on it I am just finishing up with porting the rest of Epics demos to Linux then I will have a bit of Fortnite stuff to show
@@JohnLogostini okay :)
Wow!!! That looks amazing, and I like the textures 🔥
how did you get the demo?
Epic released the Source Code for the City part of the demo what you see is that demo mixed with some custom work
Cool! But why? fortnite cant run on linux anyway
A: To prove from a rendering and Unreal point of view Fortnite can run on Linux and EAC is the only fake problem left and B: UEFN doesn't need Fortnite to work you can make Modes and Maps on Linux and test them on Console
@@JohnLogostiniThats what im doing here landscape and verse and do a bulk of the work in creative 1.0 i have no good computer.
Dang i wish there was commentary too
Let's make one
I take it wine is a prerequisite?
@@Seriouslydave Yes but that's buneld with Proton so in my case Steam is the only prerequisite
I started a Discord and now re reading your post you said commentary not community Discord: discord.gg/z23bh8csVw
@@JohnLogostinilol im sure there are enough linux users that want this. Im trying to get this going on an old chromebook with voidlinux. I have steam running. That was the easy part. I just need landscaping verse and tweaks like materials for now on basic island projects. Later on i want to make some 1 player projects that will need an upgraded hardware, but i hate windows so i will still use this.
I saw a video of someone getting in game on a steam deck. and im so pissed off, they wont show how to anyone. i saw this video posted in the fortnite switch modding discord server 😿
We need to know how.
if i had to guess it was just someone swapping the fortnite EAC drivers with the drivers from a proton compatible game with EAC
Please post the new higher quality video because it isnt working like that for me
Working on it
@@JohnLogostini Working on it?
Yeah its been working in this state for many years, ur late to the party
I hope one day I'll be able to play Fortnite on Linux just fine. It's the only thing that I don't have at least a somewhat viable solution for during my current transition from Windows to Linux. Dual boot it is, unfortunately.
Lol same here. I actually just installed Winblows on my new gaming PC. I dual boot on SteamDeck, but trying VR as well recently, so not a lot of luck on Linux. Hopefully things change in the not so distant future. It's a shame because the power is there, but the software support or hardware limitations gimp the whole operation.
Fortnite Running on Linux, if its really posable how long untill it can run on the steam deck
If you know someone with a Deck get them to follow my tutorial and see if it works ruclips.net/video/MLdFVyLrbtg/видео.html
@@JohnLogostini Ok but Do you have a video of Fornite gameplay Running on linux
@@BrotherShield Sort of it dosent work as well as UEFN ruclips.net/video/fjoVNYPSMV0/видео.html&t
It's funny, so the AC kicks off randomly in creative modes (or with a delay), but on regular modes it won't even let you enter the lobby
Yeah EAC can be a bit random I will post a higher quality video soon with a bit more details hopefully we can put some pressure on Epic i know a lot of people still think Fortnite cant run on Linux due to the graphics so why bother with EAC at all but as you can see in my other videos UEFN works 100% so EAC is all that's left
I feel ya. Fortnite and other games make me dual boot on the steamdeck and I just built a new gaming PC this week and sadly decided to go Winblows for things like Fortnite and others, plus VR. I wish things would be better for Linux, but at least there's been progress over the years! I also remember a long time ago running Fortnite on a custom-ROM android, and it would kick me out randomly too. Proof that it runs ok on most devices, but sadly Epic introduced so many artificial limitations with the stupid EAC@@JohnLogostini
Nice job buddy :)
Damn dude .. tutorial? Still havent found a proper one for pcg. But this looks good.

Are the ground materials from Quixel or the Jungle pack?
Thy are from the Jungle pack but any material will work all you need is a height map
@@JohnLogostini Yup i tried using Quixel materials and it works, but as a landscape material not quite.. Also has a noticeable performance hit
@@TheeScienceExplained Yeah it slows things and what i showed in the video is a landscape also the rocks on the side are tessellated as well
THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!! AND BIGGER THAN PEOPLE THINK IT IS, THIS IS THE NUMBER 2 REASON I WOULD SAY THAT HAS A LOT OF IMPACT ON BOTH PC AND CONSOLES
It allows a crazy amount of detail without needing crazy workflows like mesh discs
@@JohnLogostini letssss GOOOOOOO!!!!!
