how did this workout for you. Thinking about doing this for my pastel artwork
Gell Mediumer code 65?
I love the secrets of guilding practices, some things you just have to hear about.
such as?
What exactly the chalk is?
Calcium carbonate
What is your dispersement liquid?
You can use rubbing alcohol
400th subscribers!!! 🥳
why do you have to whip it?
What can i use instead of gum arabic?
Reverse
Could you please advice the deatail of medium and pigment? Need to add any retardant, or solvents?
hi Can you make your own oil paint? it would be interesting :)
As soon as that noise came on (music) I turned this vid off..........erkkkkk
Can’t hear you something wrong with your sound
Very helpful tutorial, thank you; appreciate the tip regarding using a laser printed paper that's pretty recently done.
As if one could find ACRYLIC65 and thickener just around the corner! What 's that ACRYLIC 65 made of??? What is that thickener? WHER TO GET THEM????
what goes into making a paint light fast?
It has a lot to do with the pigment quality some pigments have higher lightfastness than others
Ugh.
Where do you get the Chalk?
Music is a bit loud and the voice low... Thanks for sharing the prosess you used.
I'm a little lost - where do you get the pigment and what kind of chalk do you use? Is the chalk the same as plaster of paris? What kind of oil is used? This seems to be a lot of work when ya can just buy gouache already made inexpensively. Help us out more here, please.
I don't know mutch about the matrials or the cost to make gouche but I think people make it on there own if they have a certain consistency or color they want there paint to be. It would also be kind of cool to have a painting that was done with paint you mixed yourself
Are there any substitutes for honey in this recipe?
You can try using Corn Syrup instead of honey.
Honey prevents mold. You would have to replace honey with something that prevents molding. Usually honey is the cheapest option.
@@truptiratnaparkhi1664 Corn Syrup will not retard bacteria as honey will, it is not a sweetener in this case
Sarah burns advises to use clove bud oil
This recipe is unique on youtube and top... thanks very much
can you change your ready made watercolors into gouache by adding chalk?
I dont think so or it wont be as good as regular gouache because gouache adds more pigment and lesser binder
beautifully presented video. thankyou the info was just what i was after.
I have an easier way thought it doesn’t exactly qualify as real gouache but it works Add 1 table of paint 3 drops of oil Mix Add 1 teaspoon of chalk/cornflour works too Done
thats called oil paint.. my god (face palm)
what kind of pigment is?
Cool. I recently tried hot stamping copper leaf onto leather for a reenactment project. The only info I could find for traditional binder was "they used egg whites". so I used straight egg whites. It didn't go so well. The leaf wasn't really sticking. Now I know what I did wrong. Thank you so much!
DrTurtleBee hi i was thinking of doing some gilding as well, how did this recipie work out for you?
You could do this so much faster.
Toby Newhouse. How?😋
Very nice tutorial and accurate, unlike the other video I saw on RUclips about glair. However, I would not use glair as a varnish for anything. It's hygroscopic and is brittle. There is an excellent conversation about that with someone who works for Natural Pigments and Koo Schadler, who is an amazing egg tempera artist. I've taken a workshop from her. There are other possibilities for varnishes and a few are listed on the following thread. www.naturalpigments.com/forum/glair-and-rsg-as-et-varnish/?p=1 Many thanks for your video!
omg, that scraping sound....
Joy Gill IKR! 🙉
what is the name and ingredients in the medium thank you
Just what I've been looking for. I've been using poliurethane varnish for a while but I want to change it for something more ecological. Do you know if the egg glair is water resistant and if it will turn yellowish if I varnish clay?
Hi! I'm the person in this video. There seems to be very limited information about how far you can stretch this medium. My guess is that it would act similarly to watercolor or gouache that does lift up with water. However I could be wrong. This video was an assignment for class that intended to fill in the gaps of accessible information available online to fellow artists. I would suggest doing your own tests and let us know!
You're varnishing clay with polyurethane? Are you applying this to greenware or bisque? Are these clay sculptures or are you using them for dishes?
Hi L, I've used the white egg glair for varnish polychromed egg tempera plaster, it worked really fine, it leaves a beatiful sink texture to the egg tempera over the plaster and it does not turn yellowish in a short time, but unless if it is in a smoke area. It is extreme sensitive to water and is not really resistant to friction. It was the most common paint and varnish technique in the 19th century for the ceiling plaster ornaments. They used to add some Mica powder as purpurine to the egg white varnish in order to give to the floral ornaments a wet aspect. He it could help you. Regards
awesome video. can you give details what brand of pigments you used. Also does chalk mean the same school chalk we can grind and use it ?
School chalk is usually made from gypsum (calcium sulfate) whereas Champagne chalk is calcium carbonate. Kremer pigments offer excellent pigments (and Champagne chalk), but you can also get pigments by Schmincke, Sennelier and other brands, if you want to pay more. Just be aware that some pigments are extremely toxic, e.g. cadmiums (reds) and cobalts (blues). Do a thourough research before you embark on the adventure of making your own colours. A simple way of making your own gouache colours without going through the hassle of working with pigments, is to mix Champagne chalk or even Chinese white into your watercolour tube paints. The white will alter the colour, of course, but it will also make it more opaque therefore transforming watercolour into gouache.
HerculePoirot thanks for your time and explanation !
HerculePoirot, thanks for your awesome name. Aggy would be proud 😉
Thanks a lot for sharing this, very helpful! I recently tried to make my own watercolor and while i like the result, i noticed that it is a lot less smooth on the paper compared to other watercolors. Do you have an idea what i might have done wrong?
Hi Mary, So glad you used this video! If the paint is gritty, it is likely a result of the pigment needing more mulling. Each pigment mulls differently and some are more gritty than others. Certain pigments require the use of a muller if pushing and smoothing the pigment is not enough with the palette knife. Certain pigments require more medium also. Hope this helps! Good luck!
For watercolors, you get the best results when you disperse the pigments with grain neutral alcohol and distilled water with a roughened glass muller on a roughened glass plate until the alcohol has evaporated before adding the medium.
