So true!
Oh my goodness this video is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a 13 yo also. I LOVED that you were working together. Mome/daughter (that's her spelling for me) and daddy/daughter projects are so special. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi. Can this trick also work in cutting clear acrylic?
Sadly no, you need a CO2 laser to cut through clear acrylic.
Thanks for making this video. Eye safety is foremost in laser use.
You're welcome!
Nice video! Took me awhile to figure the importance of this out!! I did find for me that going a bit further than a line was helpful. I ran the alphabet down the ramp, one line upper case and another lower case, just a line engrave. For me, it was easier to find the optimal distance.
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
It's a benefit to save the machine settings to a file on your PC.
Always a smart move to back up your settings!
Hi friend, if i buy lightburn still will need a graphics software in order to precess images and then pasto to lightburn to cut or engrave? so far i got a sculpfun s30 22w thanks a lot!
Yes you will need something to preprocess your images. I recommend Imag-R www.imag-r.com/
Was this done with a MOPA fiber laser or just regular fiber laser?
It was done with a MOPA fiber laser.
I can't afford your course but it does sound good for all newbies, good luck everyone
Hello sir. Interesting video, I have been looking into one of these for my wife for Christmas. If you do not mind, I have two questions. One, what do you do as far as venting when using the machine? And the second question is, where did you purchase it from? Thank you.
I don't have this particular machine any longer but my venting method is still the same. I have a soft enclosure that is hooked up to 4 inch PVC dust extraction tubing. That runs to a 4 inch centrifugal fan that pulls air from the enclosure and pumps it out of the house through a vent in the wall. If you and your wife are brand new to laser cutting/engraving I recommend my Laser Learning: Diode Edition course. I cover all the information you need to know about getting started. It has a section that shows off how I vent the laser. Plus, I cover other items that you'll need to have to safely operate your laser. You can learn more about it here: letsmakeathing.com/laser-learning/
@@LetsMakeAThing thank you very much as we will definitely check that video out from you. You mentioned you no longer have that engraver,, would you still recommend it for starters?
@@bownutz76 Yes, I think the 20 watt is a great starter laser for the price. If you are looking to cut thicker material or engrave more quickly and have the budget, I'd recommend looking at the Longer B1 30watt. It has a larger working area in addition to being more powerful.
@ thank you very much
This isnt a mopa laser yeah?
The GI30 is a MOPA laser.
Warum nimmst du keine Reflektierende Folie? Sowas wie selbstklebende AluFolie oder Spiegelfolie? Das sorgt dafür, dass der Laser nicht durch geht und klebt die Teile bis zum Anbringen perfekt zusammen?
Any update on cutting aluninum business cards? Would be a shame and false advertising if it is can't actually do it as they claim it several times in their product page
Turns out their manual was wrong. According to the person I spoke with the max it can cut is 0.05mm metal. Nowhere near the .2 and.5mm the manual claims.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Reusing is great for testing
finally the discussion its finish, it is possible to engrave clear acrylic! thanks a lot for the viedo u have a new subscriber!
Glad you found it useful!
I can't find the link to the Free Laser Learning Foundation. Can you please provide the link? Are you no longer providing this free resource? I asked a month ago and have received a response.
Sorry for the delay, I must have missed your message. The e-book is no longer available.
it would be very neat to see if you can make a inlay of one acrylic into the other. id like to see how much to take off to make it fit right if it even can. very kool thank you!
I've got a video on doing inlay with wood, the same procedure should work with acrylic.
Man I wish I would've seen this video before buying a pack of acrylic to cut keychains! Was wondering why they didn't cut! LOL Looks like wood it is! Thank you so much!
Sorry you wasted money on the acrylic!
Can you tell us the original model kit then? I mean since sharing the model kit's plans would not be cool, maybe we can reinstate some of the money flow to the original creators
Sorry, I made this video a year and a half ago and I don't remember what the original model that was stolen was.
African Swallow or European Swallow?
Yes!
I’m just starting to play with slate so this was super-useful, thanks! (A tip on sourcing: I discovered that my local Michael’s art/craft supply store has nice 4x4” coasters in shrink-wrapped packs of 4 for only $5. No problems with coasters getting chipped or broken in shipping, and cheaper than most sellers on Amazon. I don’t know how widespread Michael’s is, but they’re a great source for lots of stuff if you have one near you.)
Glad you found it useful! And thanks for the coaster tip!
Are there any masks that are suitable. I'm good friends with a PPE company for tradespeople.
Anything to remove VOCs will help but I highly recommend using an enclosure and extractor fan.
It could be diode laser. Corning made 1062nm watt level single mode diode laser. More likely diode pumped solid state. Uses laser diodes to pump crystal for second harmonic generation. Fiber lasers use doped amplifying fiber on large spool. Just a guess.
Do u do this engraving for others? I want to hire someone for a small job
I do not take commissions. Sorry.
A&d
I just love your down to earth tutorials. Please keep them coming.
Thank you. Glad you find them useful!
You sure like to talk a lot without actually getting to the point Jesus first and last video I watch for you
Thanks for a helpful video, much appreciated! I guess the only questions I have is how do you know which is the front and back of these? Thank you!
There is no actual front or back on the acrylic. It can fit into the LED base in either direction.
@@LetsMakeAThing Understood, thank you!
Great video, Thankyou. Been wondering how to engrave clear acrylic using my diode laser, one question though. What alternatives you would recommend in place of the spray adhesive ?
You don't really need the spray adhesive. I've had lots of people let me know they successfully used this method without it.
Danke LG Jean-Luc

Kind Of New As A Channel Subscriber .... My Daughter Owns Tat Same Machine. Yes It Is (My Opinion) An Expensive (With Quirks!) Beginner Device. Main Comment Point = You Daughter Is An Awesome Teenager!!!!
Thank you. I think she is as well!
Hello, Thank you for the video! I have a question regarding the second part of the video, specifically about the simple square you mentioned. (4:49min) Does the square need to have specific dimensions in order for me to measure it after cutting it with the laser? Keep it up 🔥🔥🔥
You just need to know what size the square is supposed to be so when you measure it you can calculate the difference. Usually 100-200mm is a good size and makes measuring easier.
Tried the change you mentioned and it definitely makes the image darker, plus more sharper. The added sharpness was a nice surprise.
Glad it was helpful!
Just a thank you for your time and I like the way you explain things its great foe new bees like me leaning diode lasering at 65 is great fun. Again thank you for your time it really helps.
Glad it was helpful to you!
Thanks. I'm okay with using Borax. (Any other old folks in here, who remember Ronald Reagan's 20 Mule Team Borax commercials?) I always give it a coat of clear spray, before I do ANYTHING with it. Otherwise, that soot will get everywhere.
African Swallows aren't migratory. You get a lot of use out of a 20W laser. Liked.
Thank you!
it would be nice to mount it on a 3d printer instead of the extruder....
fiber laser are made of multiple laser diodes ! the title is wrong 😅
I don't get it.. it costs a fortune but I don't see any benefit at all.
After I made this video I had someone who was looking to engrave a brass plaque that was too big for my galvo. I was able to use the A20 to get it done. It has a very specific use case that not everyone needs.
they could have slapped a galvo head on the gantry to quickly scan small stuff but with the benefit of extending the working area
I wonder if there is an adaptive mesh addon you could put on this?
While this is an absolutely interesting piece of kit, it feels ill-suited to do things a fiber galvo, gantry CO2, or gantry diode laser might be able to do. I think the real use cases might be engraving large, very flat, metal surfaces like a pist0l slide. Even then I think you'd need to ditch the grate surface for a machined one, the kind you would be able to mount tooling fixtures to (like on a galvo). The other concern is buildup of heat from not being able to move the head fast enough (akin to a galvo). Either way this this is pretty cool even if it appears to fill a hole no one asked to have filled.
I had someone who was looking to engrave a brass plaque that was too big for my galvo. I was able to use the A20 to get it done. It has a very specific use case that not everyone needs really.
So easy to understand
Thank you!
Thank you for this. I've actually been looking at buying as an upgrade module later. I'm strongly considering buying either their 40 watt or 70 watt diode first. You can get this as a stand alone and swap out the laser modules when you need to. I've seen similar results to what you're getting though, and I've wondered if having the metal set in a bath that only just touches the bottom of the metal to absorb the excess heat would help with the warping issue. I'm sure that would be a tricky thing to set up though considering how thin the metal cards are.
I've tried lots of different cooling methods for the cards on my other lasers. The thing that seems to work best is laying it on an aluminum block and doing multiple low power passes as opposed to a single pass at high power. Still not perfect but it definitely helps.
Set your business card on either piece of copper or a wet paper towel.. Works for me.. also help slow down the change of color in thin stainless..
Thanks for the advice! I'll give that a try.

@@LetsMakeAThing I don't know, AAAARGH
I have an AtomStack diode laser with the same frame and controller but an older laser head. It works well but I don’t use it frequently because of the light danger and smoke. If I had a closed-frame one with an air filtration system I’d probably use it more-but now we’re talking a LOT more money. Anyway, I appreciate that your videos show honest results in a concise manner. I’m an experienced 3D printing guy but I’m still a newbie with lasers.
I've used an enclosure for my open frames for years with an exhaust fan that vents outside. I think I spent around $80usd for the enclosure and it's been well worth the investment. I don't like to run my lasers without it.
