Side By Side: BMW 330e vs Peugeot 508 PSE SW on MOUNTAIN PASS
I made this video comparison of two fast PHEV´s I drove on the same bit of road. Peugeot went in the WET, while BMW in the dry. But still, at least, you can see the difference.
Both AWD
Both Similar Weight (over 1.95 tonne)
Both so much fun to drive still
Enjoy.

Skoda Enyaq Coupe L&K review. How is life with the poshest Volkswagen Group electric SUV?
My partner’s brother has one of these and loves it. I would probably go for the petrol, not a big fan of diesel engines no matter how marginally more economical they are. I like the infotainment system and dashboard combination, something you see on BMW’s.Not particularly keen on the temperature control section underneath it though, looks quite odd. I imagine it serves its function well though. Good looking car, good performance.
Yes mate, and much better set-up chassis than Kia Sportage. I would take Full Hybrid.
@ Is the full hybrid a petrol version ? So unusual that the Hyundai drives better than the KIA isn’t it ? Since they are basically the same company technically. They must keep to their own ideas on how to build a car.
Yes, 1.6T-GDI+small battery, I think around 220,230hp? It is, in Kia, the driver sits cramped, and too high up and too close to front wheels.
@ That’s good power,more than enough.Worth considering.
@RonnieCurrie-ze1tr Sure enough, so it´s good for overtaking, or long-distance trips with full car, while getting some good MPG. I only wonder what does 1.6T-GDI says on the hybrid regime of ICE usage from long-run...
This is easily the best looking Peugeot in the range. Very nice 😍
I must agree my friend! And also it drives so well!
How did you find it overall ?
Felt the most dignified and comfy from all Renault range, that has become stiffer in terms of chassis in recent years. But I was slightly disappointed from range, but it's winter, windy and still it was no worse than any of its competitors. 👍😎
I drive this car since may 2024 and my only complaint is the software , it is lacking compare to Tesla .
I agree. What is your consumption now during winter? If you have cold in your country at the moment.
@@upshifter it is 22kw/100km average when I get the heater on , it is what it is :)
What is your opinion about the warning sounds? Some people complain about it, it is too often and annoying.
@@EdgarRenje I gotta admit, quite annoying in the Torres, mostly because it is just too loud. Some other brands have it resolved in a more "dignified" manner.
@@upshifter Yeah, but I wanted to know from the owner @yetobel
It’s a good car, nice looking. Is it a good alternative to the German Marques ? It’s very close to
I see it like that YES. Very good, and I really liked it Hybrid POWERTRAIN that is oriented on power delivery. 🔥🦁
Impressive. My first thought was how compact the interior looked but not in a way that it’s cramped, only more accessible to the dash. Not keen on the lack of physical buttons though 🤔 But a nice car,a drivers car really which looks great and looks as if it handles extremely well. Are hybrids the happy medium ? I’m still not sure because of the expense if something does go wrong with the battery.
Yeah battery replacement is maybe 1 thing I forget always to take into consideration as I only care about driver's feel. But the 3 series, really nice car mate! Even as Plug-In. But I definitely wouldn't buy it in this full spec. When I configured M340i as my configuration, it was only 77k where as this, is 82k. Many of the optional equipment items one simply doesn't need.
@@upshifter Oh definitely,if it drives well then you don’t think of anything else 😄 But yeah, the 340i is an unbelievable machine,it’s a no brainer for me to pick that over the E. Nothing wrong with the E but that feeling and the sound you get from the the ICE 340 is incredible
Fix your mic man
Yeah man, I will
Yeah it seems a bit sharp sometimes,I keep adjusting my treble thinking there’s something wrong 😂
engine resource 30k 😅
It actually sounds like that on idle.😅😂
Amazing car! You are from Hungary or from Slovakia? Although your English is great I hear some Hungarian accent from it (and the car plates are Slovak)
Hello. I am from Slovakia. But sure Hungary are our friends and actually quite usual in the capital, so I do know the Hungarian accent. 😊 What do you like most about the car?
@@upshifter What do I like? The range, the price, the frontal screen, even the looks (somehow between a Jeep and a Defender). EV cars like that had a price tag of 80.000Euro just a couple of years ago.
That's right! I love the looks too, also it's so nice to drive considering it's a heavy tall SUV.
This is such a nice looking car. I wish they would put that interior into the ICE versions but I’ve noticed they put the better interior into EV’s. Maybe to tempt people to buy electric 🤷🏼♂️ I will never buy EV though. But it’s nice to see how others find them. I know it’s all aerodynamics but the wheels on these EV cars are really bad looking
Nissan have done a nice job on this even though I have steered clear of Quashqai’s . I feel they are like a swarm of locusts in my country and that tends to make them look generic. Another good review my friend.
I never drove Qashqai before, and was extremely pleasantly surprised! Nissan does great chassis. And I like the interior usability with loads of hardware controls!
I can’t quite see anything to dislike with it. Have I been wrong to keep away from it ? Possibly
Are we going to get a real hot hatch?
Unluckily not. I was talking with Peugeot leadership of my country. That was dependent on sales of 508PSE, and as those are not doing that well, it seems no other smaller PEUGEOT Sport models. But damn what a shame, 208 would be hell of a hot hatch.
Amazing video ❤ Great review
Thanks mate! Happy to help! 🫶
Hello, I just received evx, 4 days ago. I drive it 60% highway and 40% town. I get around 18.3kwh/100km. But generally I drive ECO mode, since its still too fast for my experiences. For me driving experience its also very good. Negatives I find is that parking sensors (front) are not automatically activated when you slow down like below 15km/h and all the beeping all the time (eu regulations, all new cars have it). But you can remove most of them by scrolling down and unselecting the speed limit and coffee. (not 2 minutes as you said, but just 2 seconds, of course you need to do it every time you enter the car)
Btw where are you from. In my country price for evx starts at 40k euro
Hello, thank you for comment! That's bloody lovely, I mean I didn't try Hypermiling with it, but that's a nice number mate! You just scroll down and get it there to turn off? I am from Slovak Republic(not Slovenia). Where are you from?
@@upshifter I am from Cyprus. Yes if you scroll down the top menu par has the option to deaxtivate speed limit and coffee warnings. So no noice after that. For me it came with those options. Maybe you need to add them in the top bar or you need the latest update Btw 43k you get all options, with 3d camera, leather, heat pump, all safety features
It's really good value and a nice car to own and drive on the road.
What other car were you considering?
Still slow
Even in sport mode mate
Let's see, gonna post that soon.😝😘
🥱
😂 1.6 petrol engine max 180 hp + 2x 80hp electric motors. Worst dash ever steering wheel blocks dials , paddle shift fixed a pain to use while turning. I bought one took it back to dealer after 1 week. Piece of s""t
This is your first scooter, it may also be your last if you don't suit up properly and fasten your helmet! Even slow speed accidents will cause significant injuries if you only wear shorts and a T-shirt. Be smart and enjoy your ride!
Thanks man! I'll try to get better
which one is better in terms of reliability, a Mazda 2 or Suzuki Swift? Great review btw
With new Swift. Both will be great in terms of reliability, while Mazda offering you more power, and greater handling with also better build quality and sound insulation. Suzuki will be also great thanks to it's low weight! I will test Swift, so some time Q1 next year, my Review will be out.😊
I ❤ MAZDA
Damn, why is it always the same music in the beginning ?
Cause it's always different video 😜
@@upshifter Got you mate ! Then I would choose a different song. “Whenever, wherever” for instance….
Let's do it next time!
I recently ordered a Scala, it arrives in March, its a great car, small and compact but still with much space for luggage and the passengers
Great pick! Enjoy the Scala!
The changes are slight exterior wise but definitely an improvement to the last shape.Stick a nice set of alloys on it and you have a sporty looking car. Interior looks fine for a base model, only change I would have is a slightly lower infotainment screen. But yeah definitely worth considering, especially as a car for the town. Mazda has done a good job on this.
Great review - the boot is the draw on this small car - it has a big storage area for its size!
It's a really great car. Worth it! 🔥💪
Great video, thank you. Very informative. Car looks lovely, hope it gets a bit cheaper though.
Glad to inform mate! Yeah that would be appropriate, 50k is too much.
Is it a Mitsubishi engine ? Nice interior
No, it's Renault engine. Altough technically brilliant and very reliable from long run, as it has indirect injection.
@ Thank you,it’s not a bad compromise. Nice little car
@@RonnieCurrie-ze1tr It certainly isn´t, it´s both practical and fun to drive. Altought purely for chassis engagement, Peugeot 208 or Mazda 2 are perfect.
@@upshifter Yeah I’m in agreement with the Mazda definitely. As I’ve mentioned before the Peugeot 208 GT sat too low for me and steering wheel was in an odd place no matter how much you adjusted it.IMO It’s a pity because it’s a lovely looking little car
@ I will add that while this is practically a Renault,it looks so much better with Mitsubishi badges 😆
Even though its electric I actually quite like this. Nice looking car in a quirky kind of way and I know you don’t like the interior but the minimalist look gives it clean lines so I can live with that. Totally agree on the tyres and brakes, they need a premium upgrade especially with that kind of acceleration. Wheels on electric cars always look terrible so if they can be replaced then even better. Hopefully you can get a track day with it soon as it does look like it would be a lot of fun. With the necessary upgrades of course 😅
It would be a very interesting project to try remake this car into EV Track-Toy. 💪❤️🔥
@@upshifter I hope you can test it again so you can do a couple of dry laps in it. We could see if it really is an EV hot hatch 👍🏼
Great video! Would you suggest chiptuning this car for like 20 hp more (600€) or is it a waste of money (losing the 2 year waranty) 😎
Where are you from? In my country u could get that much cheaper, and that would be worth over 2 year warranty. 😜🔥
Thumbs up a great car although I have the jogger hybrid 7 seat version and squeeze the fuel economy a lot more.
Do you actually use it at full potential with 7 people and baggage? What is the consumption at such operating conditions? I was always tempted to try that, never really got to that, so I am very interested in that figure.
Yes actually I had myself and son and five other guys I had to collect them at a bar and they were all getting left off at another bar about ten miles away up the motorway. I did ask the smaller blokes to get in the third row but they were a drunk and ended up with big fella squeezed in but it was fine gliding up the motorway no noticeable drop in power. 😊
Great story, great car. Power is the definite advantage of hybrid POWERTRAIN in Jogger. 🔥🫶
Thanks for detailed review and insights
My pleasure! Happy to help
And what about the screens operation systeem navigation and is car play Bluetooth
Fantastic! With Google in-built serivces
It's a toyota man, and the toyota version is much cheaper.
It's is, but I noticed different damping and spring rates. In this aspect they tried to make it feel more like a Mazda. And the Toyota POWERTRAIN is brilliant. At least in my country the Toyota cost about the same, isn't really cheaper. 😁 Of course I understand it's badge engineering, so why would people get it instead of the original right 😁
Great review, thank you! I've just ordered a mazda 3 homura 2.5 140bhp
Thank you. Enjoy your new car, mate! I really like this decision they did with the 2.5 into Mazda 3. Will be awesome when it comes into your ownership!🔥
How much KM it’s go with a full tank
On the motorway around 789 km on a tank mate at 130 km/h.
Nice and how much petrol or diesel u put in roughly
@@Beezy-f1e 55 litres of petrol
And what about the sound is the sound systeem good in there the speakers ?
@@Beezy-f1e very decent indeed. Also the sound isolation is very good for a mid-size SUV.
This may seem like a strange thing to say 😆 I know it’s essentially a Renault but for some reason it’s just so much more appealing with Mitsubishi branding. I love the sills, although not required, they maybe give it an individuality that separates it from Renault. It’s a good car unfortunately. Unfortunately because they have stopped selling Mitsubishi in my country 😕 Which is a great pity because they were always a great alternative choice over the more popular brands.
I like the interior and its panoramic roof, the interior looks solid. But I agree. It’s not a very appealing looking car. If you remember Perodua ,MG’s are kind of the same idea. Built with no affection or soul, just as money spinners and not for the love of driving.
A good car for sure. It might be a great company car but struggle to be a family car though,as you probably know people are looking to the SUV market. I love it though,a good all rounder,a good choice.
While that might be true, at least personally I am still for normal type of car. 😁
@@upshifterI agree with you,I would rather stick with normal also
I don’t think we need the music my friend. Just your own analysis 😄
Thank you very much! It is very kind of you. I just try to tell the truth and inform honestly.😊💛
Now this is a car I can definitely get behind as opposed to the Jogger. The Jogger is a good car for the money, very functional but cheaper parts mean less durable. I would certainly pay the more premium price for this Tourneo as it looks a better place to sit in. Also better to drive
The Dacia seems to be very basic but very functional and economical. What more do you need ?🤷🏼♂️ I have a suspicion that Dacia may creep into the more expensive market slowly and defeat their own purpose as being the no frills budget choice which people, who just want an A to B car,may find off putting. This happened with Kia and Hyundai who started off as the cheap choice for motorists not wanting to spend a lot of money. They eventually started getting more expensive and more luxurious as time went on. I know that a Sandero almost doubled in price because of the better equipment added. I personally wouldn’t buy a Dacia to be honest. Wow I didn’t realise Slovakia was so beautiful 🤩 👍🏼
That's right, unluckiky, it's the story as companies always want rising profits. Luckily there are still some new ones coming on.
The only problem for me.. Is the ecoboost.... I would prefer this car with a Toyota engine....
Purely from drivability point, I liked it, although I am aware of potential reliability issues of it.
Would you say the scala more comfortable than the new Fabia?
Indeed😊. Scala has comfy damping. Fabia has a more sporty one, even without Sports chassis option.
@upshifter Thanks for your speedy reply. 👍🏻
How would you compare this to the new toyota corolla sedan 1.5 tnga in terms of passenger comfort and reliabilty?
I have to be honest, I didn´t drive new or previous Corolla yet (I drove new Yaris and last gen of C-HR). But from what I saw, when I just looked at its conception, wheel geometry, I am of opinion, Corolla will be a more resolved car in corners. Skoda on the other hand will probably be better noise isolated on the motorway. Generally, I would take Japanese. So Corolla or Mazda3. :)
@upshifter Thank you for taking the time to reply! And thanks for your video, it has been just what I needed for the Scala experience through and through. I am more inclined towards the Corolla for the atmospheric engine albeit being 3 cylinder, but the Scala looks like it has better passenger comfort and noise isolation. If it was so easy to decide...
@aleksandarkostadinov3284 I think, take the Toyota. It will be more reliable and Japanese know how to do chassis as well. And if it's a Hybrid, the fuel consumption will be just Incredible!
For long trips, a charging curve is a very relevant info of any EV: It's how fast it charges (kW) vs how full the battery already is (percentage). Usually the lower the battery percentage, the faster you can charge. The range of the car is secondary as soon as you get into trip lengths of more than one battery charge. I hope 100kW is not the maximum charging speed of the car, because for 45k€ (which the all electric 308SW costs) you could instead get the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is also a great family vehicle and can charge with more than 200kW due to its 800V technology.
Yeah but also if Peugeot can take 100kW for longer time, in the end it can charge in the same time or close to as Ioniq5 with higher max but for very short time. From what I talked with Stelantis engineers, they are taking approach of saving battery from long term.
How is the Octavia RS plug in?
Unluckily didn't try yet. Maybe in the future! 😊 Could be interesting though.
Can you review the new Polestar 2 single motor long range? btw good videos!
I will try to make it happen next year. ;)
It’s a nice car, looks a nice place to sit. But I will never buy electric, they are a pain to own. The infrastructure is not there plus people become obsessive about constantly checking their range. And when you do charge it ? Always a queue in front of you. The manufacturers are beginning to realise this isn’t the way
Sure it is! I love current gen of PEUGEOT cars. I completely understand your reasonable opinion on why to not get one. From my point, I gotta say I like peacefulness of EVs on long travels, other than that, they can be a pain...
Unfortunately the rear seats suck.
You mean the too upward seating position? Seemed like a church pew. 😜😂
The real consumsion is 2.3L/100km witch is amazing again....
Excellent review 👏 🎉
Thank you! Very happy to help. This was one of my most favourite SUV ever so far.
What a total disregard for the road code … overtaking over an uninterrupted white line, speed limit breaking, notebook handling whilst driving and no lane keeping. Be a bit responsible when making these kind of videos. Being a motorcyclist you are one of my worst nightmares on the road and given the chance i would not hesitate making you lick the 80kW batterypoles.
