First time taking the E46 on the racetrack after the entire suspension has been put on Uniball. Unfortunately I had a defect ignition coil on cylinder 5 so the engine power was sort of limited and the ignition failed on the straights a few times. 2:36 is alright but after testing the new setup on the Nordschleife we will need to look at the alignment and change toe on the front axle.

As the title says… I got the car on the road again in late 2021 so I had to test it on the Ring before it closed for winter. Spun out at Schwedenkreuz at around 200kph wednesday night. I missed the braking point, braked into the corner and as I got off the pedal the car went out of control. I was able to came to a safe stop at Aremberg but a wheel was damaged and so was the suspension in the front.

Chasing a heavily modified E36 325i into Hatzenbach when the power steering pump failed mid corner. Did everything I could do to slow down as much as possible and avoid barrier contact.

Lap #7: 9:24 BTG with Wiechers Sport front strut and Liqui Moly 10w60 racing oil, still on the old Hankook EVO S1 tires though. Hello, i've had 2 manual 330i e46 m2 packet by the past and this car miss me a lot. Today i have the opportunity for a nice 330i smg6 (ssg) from 2004. But i' m affraid of what it's said about smg on different forums. My question is do you have a lot of problems with yours ? Do you recommend it for sporty driving (some trackdays and little road) and some daily driving ? The manual shift in sport mode without dsc is it faster than a fast manual shifting ? Sorry for the long text and for my approximate english.
Absolutely recommend it, for cruising it is a bit inconvenient and hard but for the rest it's perfect. Never had any issues but don't use launch control too much, it wears the clutch a lot. Also many people let off the gas for shifting which is not necessary and probably wears the system even more. You can also feel when the SMG lets the clutch slip so if you are careful you can optimize the SMG shifting with your right foot.
Thanks you for your answer, i'm going to take it. Just a last question: on my manual I've installed a shorter diff from an automatic 330i and it was a really good amelioration, I ear it was impossible on SMG because the ratio is programmed in the ecu. So, we can't shorten the final drive ratio ?
@@sudsal apparently there are differen ratios for SMG cars. There is a website somewhere aboujt E46 diffs so you can check which model has which ratio. If you have someone to write that software onto your SMG control unit it should work, final drive ratio only needs to be similar to what you actually have in the diff. Atleast that's what I've been told.

This is the best save i've ever seen.
Glad you got the save and walked away clean. Definitely shouldn’t be braking that late and trail braking into that corner. That’s why the rear got loose. Because of the slight crest on the turn, you want to finish all the braking before the turn. By the time you’re taking the turn, you should be taking the turn under throttle to keep the weight to the rear. Scary high speed section of the track though.

was there any damage to strut towers (mushroming) or spotwelds popping off and seam sealer cracking where sheet metal overlaps?
Chassis and Bodywork were not damaged as far as I know.

the spin was at 165, not at 200 bud. its the decel from 200 to 165 that caused it The steering was pretty good, during the spin, but what you really needed was quick reapplied throttle to prevent the spin from developing. It's very contra intuitive really, especially when your gut says you are going to fast and that armco is looming at the exit of the turn on such days, after such an event : Buy a lottery ticket cause you have a luck day!
I went from 215 to 200 at the corner entry and slowed down further before the rear went loose. Speedo drops because I went sideways but GPS showed I was doing close to 200 when lift off oversteer occured.

Clubsport describes a road car with track focus. You often hear about Clubsport builds aswell which means the car isn’t a hardcore track build.

it was 180 speedo, which is probably 170 gps, but still very fast and very lucky and scary 🥶
Corner entry was 200, speedometer dropped when I went sideways and the rear wheels stopped spinning that fast. According to GPS data my Speedo was pretty much on point (not the usual 10kph) and the data showed I was still going 170 when I was on the grass.
