If you have any questions about my electrical system or just an installation question, feel free to ask me in the comments and I will hopefully have an answer for you!
This was my FIRST TIME installing an electrical system. It is very overwhelming at first, but I promise, take it once step at a time and you really start to catch on.
After prewiring, I suggest following these steps:
1. Establish your ground wire on your chassis.
2. Mount your components a few inches apart.
3. Start wiring your battery.
4. Get your 12v components hooked u...

    I mounted 18” aluminum brackets on each side of the van’s cab. I’ll cut a shelf out of birch plywood and cover it with a fabric before screwing it into these brackets. I had to put small blocks of wood on the bottom side of the aluminum brackets to level out the brackets a little more. I’ll paint whatever ones are visible once my furniture is put in, but I’m not worried about that right now. 🙃 I linked the brackets here: darianexplores.com/van-build-links/headliner-shelf for anyone that is looking to install something like this. There aren’t a ton of resources available for this since the only vans who need this kind of headliner install are 2021 Ford Transits and newer. That said, @brit.and.mike have a really helpful install video on their Channel! I’m really excited to get this extra storage into the van build! 🚐👷🏼‍♀️🛠️

    How to install a diy headliner shelf in a Ford Transit part 1 👇 For the full how-to, check out @brit.and.mike’s YT video titled “Ford Transit Headliner Shelf 2021+” Step 1: Remove the Headliner Shelf - This was very easy to do by myself and took maybe 20 minutes. Be careful with the wires and plugs. Step 2: Notch Out Room for Brackets - I just used the multitool to notch out the plastic cover so the brackets can sit closer up to the headliner shelf. Step 3: Predrill Holes - This was a pain in the 🍑. The metal in the front half of the Ford Transit is very very tough to cut through. The key is to use metal drill bits and to go as slow as possible to prevent the drill bits from heating up and dulling quickly. I would recommend high quality sheet metal drill bits for this part. Step 4: Predrill Holes in Brackets - Rest your brackets in place and use a sharpie to mark your pre-drilled holes onto your brackets. Use metal drillbits to drill holes in your brackets. Step 5: Install Brackets - I used one self tapping screw and one bolt on each bracket because I didn’t have enough small bolts, but definitely use at least one bolt and per bracket to secure the brackets to the metal of the van. Step 6: Insulate the Ceiling Step 7: Reinstall Headliner - This was just as easy as taking it down. Supplies ⬇️ I ordered my 4 small brackets from @amazon, as well as the long aluminum brackets you’ll see in part 2. Those are linked here: darianexplores.com/van-build-links/headliner-shelf. You will also likely need extension bits and angle bits to get into a couple of the tight spaces. The tight space bit kit I use is linked in my bio. It’s cheap and well worth it for many van build projects. 👉 In part 2, I’ll get the shelf bracket installed and ready for our new storage shelf. 😍

    7 goal-centric things you can start doing today 👇 1️⃣ Set daily intentions. Just plan small steps that start preparing you for a positive change. My daily intentions can be to work on the van (even if it’s just for an hour), plan my next van build project, and to lay out my van build outfit for tomorrow before I go to bed. 2️⃣ Surround yourself with positivity and examples of your ideal life. This means talking to people that are where you want to be or even just researching and/or watching videos of people living your dream life. Only do this if it makes you excited though. You should not feel jealous or bitter. 3️⃣ Talk about it. Don’t be afraid to share your goals and dreams with others. By doing this you’re speaking it into existence and altering your own behavior to subconsciously create that life. 4️⃣ Reflect and adjust. At the end of the day, relax and think about the small changes you’re making and what you can do in the coming days. 5️⃣ Make a three month plan. Write down real achievable steps that you believe you can take and succeed at in the next 90 days. Write them down and start thinking about what you need to do to get them done. 6️⃣ Turn down distractions to your success. If you know that something or someone is hindering your success, then make it a point to turn it down, limit time with them, or replace it with something more in line with your goals. For example, if you’re trying to cut back on eating junk food, find healthy snacks that you actually like and stock up on those. 7️⃣ Clean your space. I promise if you clean your living space, you’ll feel clearheaded and more positive and you’ll actually feel more hopeful about your future. Remember, “Your room is a reflection of your mind.” Let me know if you like the self-help tips or if you just want more van build content. 💫🩷

    4 practical tips for tiny living 👇 1. Maximize vertical space. Use shelves, hanging storage, drawers, etc. to get the most out of your vertical space. Adding simple hooks later is a cheap and easy way to get the most out of what would’ve been dead space. 2. Integrate foldable or collapsible items. A common example of this in van life is the Lagun table mount that allows you to put up, take down, and swivel your table out of the way in seconds. In this van, I’ll have a murphy bed to fold up during the day and get out of the way of my living space. Smaller examples include collapsible colanders and Tupperware. 3. Keep it simple. Creating your own tiny space is exciting and you might have an urge to go crazy with it. But if you want to maximize your living space, minimize the decor and add-ons. A great hack here is to utilize multipurpose decor that doubles as storage or utility space. 4. Prioritize natural light. If you do live in a space without an AC unit and you do prioritize natural light, I highly recommend ensuring these spaces also offer ventilation. In this van, I have a skylight that opens and two bonus windows that open to keep it as cool as possible inside the van. Please share your tiny living hacks in the comments! 💭🌈

    Badass van build......

  • @darian.explores
    @darian.explores Месяц назад

    One thing that was a big pain in the 🍑 in BOTH of my van builds 👇 Framing out the window and securing it to the wall 😅 I thought it would be easier this time around because it really doesn’t look like it would be that difficult, but it is one of the more tedious projects in the whole van build. Working with the different curves in the van, and trying to make that flush with the rest of the wall is a headache to say the least. I accepted that it would take pretty much a whole day to build the frame, put some headphones in, some good music on and went back and forth between trimming the frame and test fitting it in the van upwards of 50 times. Once the frame was done, it was actually really easy to nail it to the wall recession. The router tool is something I did not have in the last van, but I am absolutely obsessed with it. It was super easy to trim out a smooth, rounded hole in the wall recession for my window. The new cut might be growing on me, but I don’t know. One step at a time. Otherwise, it's overwhelming. I'm stuck on electrical today. Learning how a breaker box works. I'm still having fun, though. I'm dreaming up my next step. FRP is super expensive. Might do a custom fiberglass shower enclosure instead with mat and resin.

  • @darian.explores
    @darian.explores Месяц назад

    Here’s what happened 👇 I planned on working on my wall recession and some drawers, but didn’t anticipate just how tedious this wall recession would be. I should’ve known though. In my first van, the wall recession was veryyy quick and easy to build. But the window frame… that was hell on earth. 😂 Combining the two projects into one structure left me grateful that I practiced healthy habits that morning because patience is the only thing that got me through it. Wall recession details ⬇️⬇️⬇️ I used 1/4 plywood for the backing and 5/8” thick plywood for the frame of both the window and the recession. The tricky parts about the recession are: 1. The large curve in the wall. 2. The metal infrastructure that sticks out in some places where the top of the recession sits. 3. Making sure it’s level. So I had to angle my recession at the top so it dodged the metal extrusions by the top corners, but the bottom of the recession was still wide enough for the back cushion of my couch to sit into. As for the window ⬇️⬇️⬇️ That also sits in the wall of the van at an angle and there is a depth gap between the recession and the window. So I had to build a frame that fills that gap between the recession and the window. Problem was that every side of the window needed to be a different depth. 🥲 So I spent half the day running back and forth from the garage to the van just making adjustments to each side of the window frame with my jigsaw until I could assemble it and fit it around the window. ✨ The makeover plan 👇 I got some bendy plywood to round out the corners of my window frame. Once that’s put together, I’ll secure my window frame to the back of my wall recession. After that, I can use a flush bit on my router to clean up the scary hole. 🫣
