    So this video really helped me! I’ve been crocheting for several years and last year I decided to pick up knitting. Obviously I am knitting continental since I learned crochet first. I have the opposite problem of you and have really long fingers and so my yarn is always slipping off my index finger and my tension is loose. The middle finger trick helps so much! Thank you for this video!

    Hi. I have a question. When I start knitting it starts fine, not good but fine. However after some stitches the ribbing pattern just stops being visible and both sides just looks like very badly done purl stitches. Although I am strictly following 2×2 knitting. What should I do? And also after i wash my gauge or even without washing my patter is sooo loose everywhere, so much gap in all the stitches, it is literally see through that pattern is not visible at all. The yarn I am using is merino wool, aran weight with 4.5and 5 cm US knitting needles

    Interesting, I just made tis modification two days ago, and love it. I went on line to see if anyone else does this, and it seems we both have shorter fingers so.... maybe this is a logical move for me as well.

      @knitwearbyrachel6015 5 месяцев назад

      @ms.brenda8993 you could try just turning the work the first half of the short row rows, then pick up the edge stitches as you work back down. But you might end up with little gaps down the side. Let me know how it turns out!

    Okay, back and watching again. I didn't get a response to my first inquiry, so this will just be an observation. You may have more success if you used a plain background, instead of a background with texture, which your camera is trying to focus into. Like a plain white or cream piece of paper, with no texture. Then the camera will try to focus on your yarn or your hands. Just a thought. I'd be tempted to remake the video using that technique, since some of the glitches really does effect what we can see.

    OK, so I'm gearing up to make my first sock. Ugh. I feel like I'm gearing up to land a ship on Mars, but whatever. I was given some 50%acrylic/50%bamboo. Would that make good sock yarn? I know you said Wool with a little Acrylic is best. And what about those yarns that have elastic wound in? Do they work up easily for a first-time knitter? Just asking...

  • @FaithRichFidler

    Perhaps putting your ball of yarn outside the field of vision, would make it where the camera quits focusing on it. Just a thought. But good tutorial.

    You made me laugh. I am a continental knitter but have learned to throw because I like to do fair isle. Having a yarn in each hand gave me better results with my floats. I have the same issue as you but in the reverse. For me, continental provides an easier way to get tension on the yarn but throwing, my yarn pops off, I have to stop and hold the yarn and so on. I am going to try and give your method a try for holding the yarn when I throw. I agree that hand size, in particular finger length does play a role in knitting as I also have small hands with short fingers. Thanks for sharing!

  • @libertylady64
    @libertylady64 2 года назад

    I crochet by tensioning the yarn in between my 2nd finger and 3rd finger on my left hand. I use this same method for knitting. I could not for this life of me knit continental style like everyone else was doing by holding the yarn the way they was tensioning their yarn. This way worked great for me!

    Excellent instructions; very clear and s-l-o-w :). And I personally appreciated you knitting a small size so we could get on with things, not to mention not giving too much of the pattern away. But…I’m wondering if there is an advantage to using this method of short rows. It seems like a lot of wrangling (especially those purl KDS which, as careful as I was, caused me to drop a stitch and frog). I haven’t re-worked those rows yet so I can’t see if the right side of the work is substantially nicer than some of the other methods. Thoughts?
