There's a jazz album, featuring Pat Metheny & Bill Frisell, by Marc Johnson called "the sound of summer running". It's about the only thing I've heard that can seem to occupy a similar space to Blue Sky-Jessica-High Falls-that unique Dickey Betts sound or style. It was probably accidental; maybe an unconscious influence. But I imagine it'd be a record that Betts would enjoy hearing. I compiled my own choice of "best of Allman Brothers" and 90% of it was Betts' tunes and/or songs.

His point about golf being too much damn work is how I feel about the guitar sadly

This man is one of my favorite guitarist, one of those guys that it seems like it just came natural. To hear him talk about golf like that makes me feel better about my golf game and worse about my guitar playing

100% Hands Down, in my Opinion he is in the Top 10 Best Pickers of all time right up there with Roy Clark , Jimmy Page etc He has always been over looked and underrated the *Almond Brothers Band* pretty much says it all Period !!!

I’m no amateur… I have to say that Dickie Betts is right fkn up there with my favourite gtr players! His choice of notes, phrasing, beautiful compositions, instrumental and songs … who could ask for more??? If I achieved a 10th of what Dickie has I’d die a happy Man I must say!!! As far as I’m concerned Dickie is a Monster Musician/Composer. The replacements in the Allman Bros .. fell short everytime! Its like losing your McCartney! Their loss!!! Too bad

I found myself feeling very sad as I watched this interview. He seemed a shadow of the dynamic musician I came to love and adore. I’m not a guitarist but his sound was so unique and full of joy. I’ve worn out many recordings of Jessica!! What an incredible musical force he was!!!

It’s okay to love Dickey Betts, cherish what his amazing music has meant in your life, but also be concerned whether this interview unveils some of his ongoing lifelong addiction issues. Both sentiments can exist together. I am a huge fan of Dickey - almost 60 yrs old myself - and his music and art has meant the world to me. He is a tour de force as they say, and truly one of a kind. I had the great SuperFan experience and fortune of meeting and speaking with him back in the early 1980s. He was gracious, friendly, and kind. Whatever is going on here in this interview, it is clear he is not at his best. I wish him health, peace, good fortune, thanks, and gratitude.

Some years ago I saw Mr. Betts in Cleveland at a rib burnoff. I didn't know he would be there. I was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!!! I've seen a lot of concerts, and that was in my top 5! Be well. Your music makes me happy.

It's hard for me to describe how Dickey's guitar rides make me feel, and it never changes. He is such an awesome talent. Every time I'm driving and Jessica comes on the radio, I want to drive 100 miles an hour.

Huge fan of the great Dickey Betts here. If he wants to retire and play golf, that's fine. He's given us so much great music. I'm grateful to have been able to hear him for all of these years. This fan wishes him good health and a long life.
