My Interview on LBC News - "Don't let Embarrassment Kill You"
A sneak glimpse of an interview I gave to LBC Radio on the rise in Bowel Cancer diagnoses, my own health journey, and how I developed my story into award-winning show BADASS.
I know I keep saying the same thing over and over again but you never know who I might have missed: early diagnosis is key! Don’t (literally) sit on your symptoms! Honestly I’ve had conversations with doctors where they had to tell me that my v&*a had fused with my r(;£m and their plan to get them separated out again - they do not care about you coming to tell them about your poo! LITERALLY NOTHING CAN SHOCK OR EMBARRASS THESE PEOPLE.

The Chemo Chat Show....with Dan Louw (Part 2)
Просмотров 1273 года назад
My favourite topic FOOD is up for dissection in this episode, along with laxatives (we’re covering both ends here! *) and ASMR. Plus Dan entertains me with his best impressions and I talk frankly about the scariest man I ever met: my cancer doctor. For those new to my channel- doctors found a 10cm long tumour UP MY BUM during a colonoscopy, which led to me being diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Can...
The Chemo Chat Show.....with Dan Louw (Part 1)

Is cancer treatment sexist? TV Producer and comedian Dan Louw is keeping me company this time - on my chat show that takes place entirely on a chemo ward. We discuss how cancer treatment has progressed in recent history and ask whether women get a raw deal. He’s a hilarious, quirky guest and I hugely appreciate him taking the time out of his busy schedule to entertain me while I fight off bum c...
How are things since surgery in July? | I shaved my head!

Something a little different on my Channel today! I realise I don't up-date you guys enough on what has been happening with me since chemo, so here is a real fast forward to the present day. In July (2020) I went in for more restorative surgery, this time to repair a fistula that had appeared where all the cancer had been previously removed. A fistula is where stuff gets stuck together inside y...

Fabulous comic Harriet Kemsley (Comedy Central, 8 Out of 10 Cats) is my shiny new guest entertaining me during chemo. What to do with colonoscopy pictures? How to style your hair when it starts thinning? And just how is Harriet still alive after consistently falling on her head as a child? ...Are all questions we ask in this first instalment. Dara O Briain on The Chemo Chat Show (Part 3)
Просмотров 3444 года назад
The up-side to having cancer is you can, in theory, hire yourself out as a hitman. When Dara O Briain visited me on the chemo ward, we talked about all the positives of my diagnosis, plus he brought his scientific prowess to explain what ‘odds’ and ‘chances’ actually mean when you’re talking about your health. I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer and my world turned upside down. But surgeons were ...

In this next instalment, Dara and I discuss dating, plus we take a look at the (poorly designed) human body and the weird and wonderful way it’s put together. I still can’t believe a world-famous comedian would give up their time to keep me company on a chemo ward, and of course, Dara was utterly hilarious. But did we expect anything else? When I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, my world was tu...

Any tour plans confirmed? Would have loved to see
Hi Amy! Ah that's very nice to hear. Where are you based? I am trying to set up a tour, though at the moment only venues in the South East and London are on the way to being sorted - I'd love to expand that. If you leave your email address too I'll add you to my mailing list xxx
@@sazzymills thank you! I'm in Hove (by Brighton)
@@AmyJaneSmith90 I'll try to get one there! Like I say, I can add you to mailing list if you like, would need your email address. I'm on sazzymills@gmail.com if that's easier xxx
“I don’t think I’m gunna keep that bit in”🤣
Glad you liked it Sara xx
Love it found out about your show, on stu2c can’t wait to watch!!
Thanks Sara I really appreciate this x
I really had to draw the line at voting Tory. I can forgive the rest
I mean.....we were ALL doing Bukkake parties at one point or another this year.
Hi Sarah, I don’t know if you remember me from Barclay. I’m so sorry to hear your going through cancer. I hope all goes well. Be strong - don’t let the bastard grind you down!
Hey Stuart, I do remember you! How are you doing? I'm actually in remission now so all is good! So great to hear from you xxx
Hi Sarah, all good here! What good news. It must be a relief to have that news! I hope you all success in the future! I’m pleased you replied xx
Hey sweetie, You look great!! So proud of you!! Stand up, has missed you as I said on Twitter!! I haven't been in a Cancer position, stage 4 on my foot, 20yrs ago!! Nerve damage was huge...pain off the wall....told poss permanent!! Got most of the feeling back and pain free....took a bit of time....you learn to manage it...weird really....I'm weird!! Same with my double TMJ replacements....numb, nerve damage....you are a WARRIOR my little one!! Much love Caroline - was a Vampire - tired of doing bloody nights xxxx
Should have read 'have'....bloody predictive text lol xxxx
@@carolinegraham1072 Thank you! xxx
I’ve really enjoyed watching you and Dara chat. I think you had a great idea, to turn your chemo sessions into something fun. It feels almost... counter-intuitive to see someone enjoying their time whilst going through the process of injecting toxic stuff into their bloodstream, and yet it’s so uplifting. I hope this was your last session and all goes well with you.
This was such a lovely comment to receive, thank you Leonor! I have a few more episodes to release but yes I have finished my chemotherapy treatment now and am in remission xxx
Sarah Mills super great news! Wishing you lots of health and continuation of a great sense of humour 😁

I really want to know what that books called.
hahaha sadly I don't have that information! xxxx
Fantastic last show for a very long time I hope. Stay strong and positive lovely Sara, and remember prognosis stats are just that stats, although I did ask on Tuesday, when I was hooked up to my chemo "Do we get this 6 months back because of Covid-19?" I was told no, here's to the next 18th months (their prognosis) or 10 years (my prognosis). #TheChemoChatShow #SarahMills-hilarious #Livingwithterminalcancer #NHS
New subscriber, g'day from Australia
G'DAY!! Love this. Thanks for this yay!
Another brilliant Chemo Chat Show, it is frustrating when people say "Oh my gran had bowel cancer and has a bag" , I get miffed as well and I am a lot older than you 57, so for you Sarah it must be a complete pain in the rectum - no pun intended, but people don't know what to say, as the song says I wish they would say "nothing at all" and process the information. Oh I am getting a right old witch, sending love and hugs xxx
sadly I think the experience makes us a bit grumpy occasionally Kate - and that's OK! It's so annoying but I guess they mean well. But it's totally not the same experience and the amount of 'time you have left' is a huge part of how you experience cancer, imo. Anyway, thank you for the lovely feedback, I hugely appreciate it xx
Hi Sarah, you are an amazing warrior, as I have said before only cancer warriors understand what we are dealing. I have my second chemo cycle on Tuesday,. Send love and hugs to you Sarah, and keep up with the Chemo Chat Shows xxx
I am so glad I am watching this without coffee, or it would be all over the place, love the ultrasound idea LOL xxx
hahaha!!
Haha I think Dara is my favourite one yet
Isn't he sooooo good! I had no idea he would start talking about cow ultrasounds before he arrived xxx
I love how he looks like he could own a butcher shop and he's on about cow ultra sounds XD
Hi Sarah, you make me laugh out loud, as you know I am PMC, and will be starting more Chemo very soon, I have my portacath line inserted on Monday, hopefully start the chemo on Thursday 18th, they found 2 malignant nodules in 2 discs at the top of my spine, so here we go again. Your Chemo Chat Shows are the best and someone who actually understands the darker humour of chemo and cancer, makes me feel that I am not too weird xxx
Kathryn so lovely to hear from you. How did portacath insertion go? I have to go in for more surgery soon; I need a fistula repaired following on from the previous bowel surgery. It's so weird to go into a Hospital in these Covid times isn't it? I guess the chemo you're having will be fairly aggressive, is that right? So much good luck with it - it will all be worth it in the end, I am sure. We have to keep marching forwards, it's all we can do xxx
Hi Sarah, firstly I hope I haven't missed your operation date, as I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery, don't forget to shout "Matron, more morphine please". The portacath went in easily and my first cycle has finished back on 7th July for cycle 2!!! It is really surreal isn't going into hospital at the moment, no visitors or carers allowed to be with patients, it is so much fun, as we don't have to put the 'brave mask on', although I was pleased to come home as the black humour was in good supply and my sides hurt so much with laughing. As I say fingers and paws crossed for you here, for a speedy recovery. Remember I am always here for my lovely fellow cancer warrior, yes you, because we are going to do this, through a lot of laughter and tears. xxxxxxx
I think the idea is great. Hope you get more recognition and congratulations on good health.
Thank you that is really really lovely of you to say xx
Love you and your honesty! X
Thanks Rebecca , I love you for saying so xx
You deserve shit tons of subscribers legit your videos are mint
thank you!
The issue with permenant parts is infection. Sadly that's why there isn't much for long term colostomy.
not 100% understanding you hon (is there a typo?), but yeah, I've had loads of issues with my stoma which will actually probably be the reason I end up with a permanent one. xx
Why does she only have 250 subscribers?
I wish I knew....! But your comment definitely cheered me up in the face of it! xx
Phil wang 😭
1:21 idk what's funnier the fact that he just started doing that or that he explained it as he was practicing
hahaha!
Hi Sarah. Im a survivor of 10 years now. Chemo saved my life. I wish you all the best.
Thanks Steve - that's encouraging to hear! I wish you all the best also xx
Hi Sarah i am Dave from up.T.north . I stumbled upon your channel. And i think you are hilarious and very brave. I think you are handling your enemy very well. Obviously i don't know what you are going through but I have struggled a lot of my life with certain things . But i want to wish you all the best for the future. And i mean it from the bottom of my heart. You cheer me up no end. You are beautiful and funny . And i wish i knew you . Good luck with everything. Dave . And your new fan . Xx god bless
Thank you dave, this message really cheered me up! Hope you enjoyed the other episodes too. I've got more coming, enjoy! xx
@@sazzymills Thanks very much for the reply Sarah . It seriously made my day . 😆 I meant every word. And i am looking forward to the next instalment of sarah goes to the cancer ward with the biggest smile ever . Good on you mrs. And the best of luck again xx take care of yourself x
Another great interview Sarah, it is surreal how cancer warriors just get on with it. Hmmm a firework death, now that has given me something to think of as apparently I have 2 years left, well that's now, get an update on that on Thursday when I get my latest scan results, keep well and safe Sarah xxxx
Oh shit really Kathryn? That's awful. Do you have support around you? x
Ha ha. Brilliant. I now feel my chemo sessions for bum cancer were wasted.
Wasted from a productivity point of view, not from the killing cancer point of view.
@@NRobbo Thanks for that Neil - and of course for the clarification. I am definitely glad the chemo killed your bum cancer (and not your bum. Or you. CLARIFICATIONS AHOY).
Thought this was great, would be interesting to hear the full thing in podcast form or something aswell x
Thanks Samuel -hopefully! x
@SarahMills Hey Sarah, I’ve been loving following your chat show as had bone cancer in 2008 at 21 now in remission but with lots of chronic long term effects from treatments and cancer etc. I’m putting a podcast/youtube videos etc together about cancer and fertility issues plus awareness in general about fertility preservation and different people’s opinions and experiences/story plus menopause etc. If you would be interested in the future myself interviewing about your thoughts on fertility whether you want children or not/ thoughts on treatments affect especially menopause and infertility but it also makes cancer patients think about their future and the unknown how it makes us feel etc? Just let me know and okay if you rather not|! I’m @cancer_and_fertility_uk on instagram. Best wishes, Becki x
Hi Becki! I'm really sorry I missed this the first time round - I'm still figuring out the notification system on RUclips! I'd love to get involved. Thank you so so much for the kind words here, I really appreciated it. I'll follow you on Insta now and you can message me there? Thanks xx
I should know better by now not to watch your episodes whilst having a cuppa, it causes more housework LOL. Hey Rob at least Sarah and I have charcoal filters in our colostomy bags to reduce the aroma . I have a couple of friends who do 'The Tilt' in fact I asked one of them if she had hurt her neck, really I should be more tolerant. I hope you got some lovely shoes Sarah, please keep well and stay safe in these crazy times xxx
Thank you Kate xx
Brilliant - thank you for making me smile x
thank you xx
Thank you so much for doing this!!! I stumbled upon your channel from judge Rinder's Twitter. I'm a huge fan of his show. I have been struggling with chemo and radiation and I can't tell you how very grateful I am for the laughter ❤❤ I really really needed this thank you from the Straits of Juan de fuca U.S.A. 👏👏
Ahh thank you so much I really need to hear this! It's been hard work to put it together and comments like this one keep me going. Chemo is not fun at all is it but you have to find joy in the small things (like an idiot friend who's keeping you company). Hope you get through it with ease xxx
This is fantastic. Well-made, important, honest and entertaining. So glad I stumbled upon this!
This means a lot coming from you Tom, thank you. If you ever fancy tweeting this out as I'd love to build the audience, I'd really appreciate it. Hope to meet you in person at some point x
Oh my this conversation reminds me of the conversations I have with my friends and family, it keeps me going, especially when I had a conversation with my brother and cousin regards my funeral, I said I wanted playing, as the mourners were leaving the crematorium , "This Girl is On Fire", my brother shook his head and said "Typical, just typical". Sending love and hugs xxx
OH. MY. GOD Kathryn. That joke is SO dark and SO funny. xxx
At last someone who understands LOL xxx
I think all hospitals are pleased that we are not having our treatment together, the 'fun' we would have xxxx I hope you are going on OK xxx
Ohhhhh painful Eshaan, but you really should have taken a pressie for Sarah, Good Luck with the Chemo. I have 6 weeks of freedom, the last lot of treatment has kept the cancer in-situ at this present time. Now what mischief can I get up to!! Sarah take care hun xxxx
Thanks Kate and good to hear from you x
Oh my days 🤣🤣 Your amazing sweetie 💞 Are you going through this again or are theses videos from before ? Xx
Has taken me a while to get it edited xx
Pmsl 🤣 I was given the chance to about freezing my eggs.... well from 1 ovarie as they knicked the left one in surgery 😂nope I never really wanted any cling ons I rather my dogs. I can leave them home alone not sure that would be seen as good parenting 😂 Xx
I love you darling wish I'd thought of doing something like this when I was going through mine 🥰 I was the joker in chemo tried to keep everyone going. I try my best to so serious when doing my videos and it's hard as I'm naturally a p taking person. Big hugs kick its arse excuse the pune 🤣 Xx
Your own mortality is frightening, and I really hope Sarah in 5 years ( less now) you will be living life to the full, do you know lovely lady as you know I am PMC, and I will doing the same in 5 years time xxx Eshaan take Sarah present xxx
Thanks Kate - I'm passing this message on to Eshaan x
Love your Chemo chat show, really does make me lol xxx
LOL - you 2 are soooo naughty. Saying that went out on Saturday night to a restaurant, I walked in about to apologise for being 5 mins later, the manageress announced "You are late" I replied in a stage whisper "My colostomy bag exploded, and I didn't think you would have liked the smell" then ordered our meals, wait for it, they had run out of triple cooked chips at 19:50 hrs pfft. So yeah I have used my cancer. If my very close friends are getting out of hand, in a nice way I always say "I have terminal cancer you know" which we all burst out laughing xxx
Any change in poo get it checked, feeling continually unwell, get it checked. If your usual GP doesn't listen, seek advice of another GP. #rectumbowelcancerwarriors
Oh Sarah you made me laugh out loud. Meet a guy see if there is chemistry/strong enough to take on your additional accessories. I am now in Managed Palliative Care, but I will be around for a few years yet. Sending love and hugs xxxx
I really appreciate your feedback always Kate. Sorry to hear about MPC. I think we have a lot more control over these things than we think. Your positive attitude and your commitment to LIVING will definitely keep you around for a good while. You are a diamond, please stay in touch x
Sarah, please keep on going with the Chemo diaries, I love your objective view on things we have to deal with. Always here for you lovely lady xxxx
Sarah another brilliant show. Keep going my lovely. I must say being a Aunty is so much better all the fun non of the serious stuff xxx
thank you Kate! It means a lot to me. Yeah - I love borrowing my friends' kids, but I also love giving them back! xxx
