It's filmed that way to create a vignette, as he's creating a vignette. So cool. As for Josh, the drummer, he is always so focused on his drumming, and it's fun to see where his drum set will turn up next! lol

If you didn’t catch it, this song is about the fight against addiction. The “vignette” is when your focus starts to hone in on whatever you’re addicted to and it’s that constant battle.

This track and video are so great. Tyler's said that he wrote this song about addiction, which makes me wonder if the "zombies" he's referring to, are the people who are currently battling addiction. Tyler really is such a magnetic performer to watch, and he had to hone in on that early on. With only two people in the band onstage, he has to provide the energy himself to keep everyone watching, and man is he a master at it! Josh, the drummer, deals with major anxiety issues and stage fright, which is why he doesn't really talk onstage, or like to draw too much attention to himself. He still really gets into his drumming though, and he's super exciting to watch too, especially during concerts. Fun fact: The sweater Tyler is wearing while he's drawing Josh's face in the snow says "Josh's Best Friend" in Korean. They are Bestie goals forreal!!!

Josh (the drummer) is absolutely amazing to watch live. He’s just as high energy as Tyler (the singer) Oh also quick tip if you plan to keep going through Clancy and dont want to be spoiled for the lore storyline I recommend waiting on the songs navigating & paladin strait Their playlist titled ‘the story’ will show you what order to watch em if u want to follow that 👍🏻

Good morning bud. I always catch your reactions. On my way to work at 5am pacific time so my drive to work is always good with you. Tyler said on the live stream that this song he wrote about addictions people have or from an addict POV. The lyrics “off a binger in the woods” “”covered in bites(track marks” and turning into a zombie etc. “clinging to promises” and like the vignette is the circle of life closing in on them. “ swallowed by the vignette.” oh, so now if you go back and listen to the song with that perspective. You will see just how fantastically written the song is. And the sound in the video make perfect sense.

You should listen to Chlorine. You will be introduced to something new (besides the song itself).

I remember thinking the same thing as you when I first saw this video -- why don't they help him? It was explained to me by other fans that they can't help him. He needs to help himself out of his depression and anxiety. They are there for him, showing support by throwing yellow petals to let him know they are there.

Since you enjoy the videos you need to take the next step and see them live. As someone who has been to more concerts than I can remember (most recently Ted Nugent and Styx) going back to the 80's I can tell you that no one does it better than TOP. It's simply amazing!

P.S the guy in the video is my best friend. I know him as Benjamin Wild, but hey I haven’t seen him without his beard. 😂 who knows maybe Bono is hiding out here in Australia, keeping it on the lowdown 😂

Fun fact- this band is all about cycles (addiction- making progress and then relapsing) so you will continue to see themes of that There are 9 bishops One for each of the 9 towers in dema If you look at blurry face’a album cover there are 9 circles representing the 9 bishops The new album Clancy just came out exactly 9 years after blurry face album dropped (2015-2024) so now that shows that the cycle is at its end and the final chapter is happening right now! There is so much lore in this band you will keep finding more and more the more you look.

Love this song- my favorite parts are how the song proves itself- he says you need to think and to think is to be alive so don’t let things distract you from what matters and is real and then the crazy beat drop itself distracts you from what he’s saying and then he reminds you what he just said when the chorus comes back in all quiet after it ends- this band is all about cycles and how to break free from them and have hope. Another fun fact is when he is down in the pits when the beat drops the fans hold him up showing how important they are to him- but when he is alone at the end of the song he falls off the stage where the people would have been but nobody is there to support him- both showing he relies on people to support him and how we need other people in our life to help us- and that he is so grateful to the fans that have given him his platform. Amazing band!

Nico (Blurryface) is supposed to represent the insecurity that keeps Clancy trapped in Dema. Tyler (Clancy) stood there because insecurity and fear paralyzes us. The Banditos can't take on Nico because people can only fight their own demons, not others. They can support you, but it's up to you to break free of what holds you back.

Great video! This is my favorite band and they are so unique. Glad you are discovering them!

Tyler (Clancy) can only fight blurryface himself since it's all in his mind (depression, bad thoughts, etc). Friends are there as support. Friends cannot fight our personal demons. Many things in this video will appear and be better explained as the story goes further. I would suggest that once you reach The Outside MV, take a detour and listen to Neon Gravestones and Bandito before getting into the Clancy album. Trench is a concept album, so even though the story is shown in just some videos, the story goes on through almost every song in the album.

We’ve been here the whole time, you’ve been sleeping..time to wake up This was a reference to the fact that whilst they’d been quiet for a few years between blurryface & trench they had actually been leaving clues & hints & hidden messages throughout old mvs & social media & websites. When they took a break after blurryface they had symbolised image of an eye closing .. it opened back up for trench. Also this is a mental battle rather than a physical one

One tip...try not to lose sight that all this is a representation of what's going on in Tyler's mind. It's an allegory for mental health, doubt and insecurities (represented by the Bishops), the support of friends and family and faith (represented by the Banditos) and escaping the cycle. That isn't explained in I Am Clancy but it will help you understand.

Enjoy this ride, and don’t forget that this took years for dedicated Clickies (TOP fans) to puzzle together from videos, lyrics, websites, discords, etc. it was only in early 2024 that the I’m Clancy video came out. It’s okay to not understand it all at once. ✌🏻

so in this song he finds himself in this new place outside the walls of Dema (city the bishops control - which is also a metaphor for your mind, so being trapped in the city would be like being trapped in your negative thoughts) basically the bishops want to keep everyone held captive in Dema and control them until they get to the point they just give up Clancy sees the Banditos who are there to offer him encouragement (the yellow flower petals/yellow is a sign of hope) - Clancy tries to escape Blurryface/Nico but is eventually captured and will be taken back to Dema

Excited to find this one this morning! Ah the banditøs up tøp are helping by waking him back up with the yellow pedals! Something kinda cool and nerdy is nico / Blurryface is named after Nicolas Bourbaki, there are books by Nicolas out there but he isn’t really a person, but the name of a group of French mathematicians created in the mid 1930s so Tyler likes using real things within his own story if dema .. but in dema it’s ran by the 9 bishops, nico being the main one .. anyways.. enjoyed!

This song is so off-the-wall incredible, and the video really is one of the most beautiful i've ever seen in my life. The landscapes are just stunning! There's a theme of cycles in Tyler's writing, where you end up falling back into harmful spirals of thought over and over again, no matter how much you try to break free of them. Blurryface/Nico represents Tyler's insecurities and mental health struggles, so every time he catches Tyler/Clancy again, it's starting the cycle all over again. The rebel group (or Banditos as they're called) on the hill, wearing the yellow, represent Tyler's loved ones, and the concept of hope in general. They do what they can to try and help break Tyler/Clancy free from Nico's control, but in the end, he has to ultimately save himself...

One detail to hang onto is the mark of Blurryface (Nico). He put black paint on Tyler's neck and hands. That represents doubt and fear trying to take away his ability to speak out and create. That mark is in multiple videos outside the Clancy saga and also in the live, concert version of some songs.

Good catches, as you watch more you'll start to pick up on some of these repeated themes. They use imagery and metapohors throughout everything. So in this one the cycles play a big part, as well as the car, fire, music, and light and dark. Mental health struggles are cyclical. Being a passenger rather than the driver in your own life has many layers. Josh brings the fire, literally and figuratively (remember this for later). Tyler pleads for someone to save his hds, and so Josh breaks the cycle (car) by banging on his drums (with music). This repeated drive takes place during a cold winter day and stretches into night. Day and night/light and dark are significant themes throughout their catalog (check Ode to Sleep lyrics again for a good example). One of my favorite connections in this vid is about Josh being in the middle of the road. Sometimes, without realising it, our struggles can be harmful to those around us. Josh is almost hit by the car several times and his drums actually catch fire. But Josh finally breaks through and helps Tyler break at least one cylce. Where there's light, there's hope. 💛|-/💛

You definitely, DEFINITELY need to react to more Ok Go!!! My personal recommendations: "I wont let you down" (probably my favorite) "Upside down and inside out" "Obsession" "I'm not through" (the MV wasn't made by them actually, it was just the first place winner in a fanmade music video contest, and i think it's really cool and fits in with Ok Go's other videos. flash warning on it, though.) "White Knuckles" (its got a lotta dogs in it!) "WTF" (a very underrated one) "Skyscrapers" (a VERY VERY underrated one. its not as extravagant as most of their other videos, but i still think it's beautiful.) "Three primary colors" (its a short one, and it was made for Sesame Street. it's kind of a simple one too. the song isn't exactly peak lyricism, but i still catch myself singing it now and then. it's really catchy.) Also, a lot of their music videos have behind the scenes videos (sometimes multiple for each mv). I don't know if any of those would rly make for good reaction content, but they're good to check out on your own time if you find that sort of thing interesting. i like seeing how practical effects are done, and all the planning put into them, so they're a fun binge for me at least.

Great reaction! The wonderful thing about telling a story through music and videos is that there is a lot of stuff to fill in for ourselves. It lets us use our imagination to connect parts of the story that the director hints at. When this MV dropped in 2017, we had ni idea where the story was going to go. We knew it represents a journey where Tyler (later we learn he is Clancy) is not in control, and this journey repeats itself, he never really frees himself from its grasp on him. Just like mental health struggles. You think you're good, but it can be fragile, taking you back where you started.

I'm glad you are doing The Story play list. It's so up your alley with yhe cinematic videos. And then when you listen to less directly related songs, you'll be able to catch the small details- the threads - that ties everything together, even to the very beginning in 2009 (arguably).
