This is a 1987 television commercial for the former Imperial House restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa. The commercial fades abruptly, so that's why I included the short Iowa State Fair commercial that was part of the 1987 aircheck.

How old is Dale??
My mom had a gospel program in 1979 how can I get a copy of one of program she was on every Sunday afternoon thanks
Thanks for posting these videos, part of my youth.
Kwmt is all my mom would listen to.
Is that Dave Haldin? In the room?
I was in that very studio soon after they went fully-automatic with no on-air personalities. My older brother knew one of the DJ's (I believe it was Scott Fischer, then known as "Bruce Fisher," his real name, at the time) who was working the AM side down the hall, and he was showing us around the facilities. I remember marveling at the technical sophistication of having an un-manned radio station. But it also sounded "dead" and I didn't like it at all. I was about thirteen, at the time.
Is that a Schaffer Automation system? I used to pilot one of those at KKOS/Carlsbad, CA
Pre KRNQ right?!
Uh, yes... you're bringing back memories of my childhood in Des Moines, but I believe that was the chronology, yes. Okay, yes, that's exactly right.
Can you find and upload some KGGO TV spots next?
Now KDSM FOX
I sure miss old radio. Dic Youngs was my favorite
The sources I see online show WBGC as still on the air. If not, did they file anything?
Those ID's/Jingles also ran on WNUW Milwaukee. Great to hear them again.
Pretty cool to hear the 2nd incarnation of KRNT FM.
You cant be much of a "giant" on 1240 khz.
I loved the style of these small town country giant radio stations. I have a small FM station near Tallahassee Fla. that has some of the "retro" sound. Many country classics, Saturday evening bluegrass, and gospel on Sundays. I believe the WBGC building is in bad shape. The tower is still standing. It is surrounded by heavy growth and vegetation. Country music and radio folks, you are welcome to contact me at alanmccal@hotmail.com. Our station, WDXD 101.9, is the only remaining classic country radio station in this market.
Beautiful
Almost 38 years later, KKEZ is still on 94.5 in Fort Dodge, IA
I did the evening shift to sign off my senior year in high school 1978. Hired under Ron Jameson. Jim Simpson and Ron Howard were the morning and afternoon drive guys. I loved helping with Friday night football and basketball games with Bob Sandy doing the play by play and listening for commercial breaks for station ID and sportman club member commercial. Went by Gary Scott. (My first and middle name)
1240 was a staple of my grandparents. I made many requests for country classics.
My weekend job and I lived in Chipley
It's somewhat rare to use two different SSB clips in the same day.
WXMI-TV in Grand Rapids, MI (which is also known as FOX 17, but owned by Tribune) used the same sung version of the National Anthem, at its sign off.
Hi! Did you ever work at KBAB? I just showed this to my mom who worked there 1983-84.
Now KDSM FOX 17 cable 6 own by sinclair
WHAT YEARS WAS THIS STATION ON THE AIR
1965 to about 2009.
Kool !
Great aircheck. Thanks for posting this.
Surprising that Iowa didn't have an independent UHF station until the early 1980s. Oklahoma City had three at that time, plus TBN on channel 14.
The Star Spangled Banner is played on its KCBR-TV17 Des Moines sign-on and sign-off, but it is different from the other. The singing vocal version is in the sign-on, and the instrumental version is in the sign-off. This station is now KDSM-TV Fox 17, and is now owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
I pick up KWMT in North Kansas City today in 2017!
Can you upload a non scoped version of this??

KCBR-TV Sign On Sign Off 2014
The building and tower are still in place but look unused. Anyone know the status or future? What's left of the studio equipment and transmitter? Sure love to see it back on the air.
Thanks for the memories.
Who would've thought that there were stations like this then across the country. It's like a combination of a teletext-based news thing and a radio on a cable tv channel.
I did.
Today it's known affectionately as "FOX 17".
WLRE (Now WGBA) Channel 26 in Green Bay also used the slogan "The Great Entertainer".
Steve... I remember you building that studio.... and fixing the old one...and doing mornings...you're a man of many talents! And thanks Cal for posting.
Thanks for the tour with the jingle package, Cal. I had seen the still shots on the Des Moines Broacasting website, but the jingles make it great! The was the first set of studios I ever built (in 1976?). Jim Beam called me from out of the blue tonight-- it was a cool surprise to hear from him in over 30 years, and he told me about this youtube site. Steve Brown
This is really nice, thank you for putting together. I would really enjoy having a copy of the audio clips here. I spent the first 3 years of my broadcast career at WBGC and have some fond memories. Tom (tnebel@aol.com)
I was just thinking about this thing (had in it Fairfield, IA around the same time), and surely enough, someone put it on youtube!
WPHL Channel 17 in Philadelphia, PA also used "The Great Entertainer" slogan.
PGMEagle "Great" Coincidence much?
WLRE (Now WGBA) Channel 26 in Green Bay by the way used "The Great Entertainer" slogan too.
I remember listening to Q 102 when I was growing up, 102.5 is now STAR as of today!
Yep this was during the era they went with live jocks. KLYF went live as well. The market was over saturated with Top-40, but the completion was fun to hear. KMGK, KLYF, KRNQ and KXJK aka X-103 which got a power upgrade during the mid 80’s and rimshot into the Des Moines market for a brief time with X-103. KXJX had the best jingle packages of all of them with JAM jingles, man they smoked the airwaves, but lost the battle!
As Drexel Peterson Jr. I more than spent my formative years in and around KVFD. My dad worked there from 1943 until 1978. Our family lived in the Warden for the first seven years of my life. The jingle may be a little new compared to my memories, but seeing particularly the pictures of Studio A - including the piano - but especially looking over the table and into the Control Room - a table my dad used for decades - brings back memories. By the way, if you see that speaker above the Control Room window, I confess to having taken that years ago after KVFD left the Warden. With thoughts of my dad's amazing boss, Ed Breen, and all the many others, thank you. Who knows what will happen to the Warden - I just saw the massive street and infrastructure work a week ago as I passed through Fort Dodge. Hmm, "Kindly Voice of Fort Dodge" must be a later slogan. I remember one that one a contest in the 1950's - Key Voice For the Day.
Thanks for putting this together! I spent my formative years at the Kindly Voice of Fort Dodge...it's good to see the old studio and hear the jingles one more time! - Ed Zimmerle
Not sure I'd want to be in the chair right by the pool. I'd either knock the chair in the pool trying to get down, or fall backwards into the pool trying to get up.
CBR stood for Carl,Bill,Ray.The Station executives at the time of the Start-Up on 3/14/1983.Saw it on Wikipedia many times recently.
