    This is awesome!! Thank you so much. Originally, when we set up square incorrectly so I will most likely choose the “overwrite existing data” but also keep the tokens. Will this still give me historical selling data for the items that I will be overwriting? Or, will this data be gone? Trying to figure out the best way to do a mass update with adding variations so that my selling history will remain the same for each item.

    This was a great help in understanding Retail variations and the correct use of them. I'm a vendor in a consignment retail shop. The previous owners that set up the Square Retail set up the Vendors as "Items". The new owners are trying to SKU items & track inventory by vendor, and have created "Variations" under each of us. (Variation Ex: Towel, Hand/Design Name; Towel, Fingertip/Design Name) The problem is that they do not know how to generate reporting / export this data SORTED to EXCEL so that we can restock our "base" to the minimums on hand we have agreed. Right now I literally have 10 pages of items that are not in any kind of order, in PDF with item names and counts separated on 2 lines in 1 colum which doesn't make sense. If they try to "sort" by column, it sorts all the counts at the top, and the separate item names at the bottom....useless. I use regular square on my device, and am not familiar with RETAIL version. Is there a video or something you can point us to that explains how to generate that excel reporting if it exists? It would relieve a LOT of headaches and wasted time for everyone. Thks.

    This video is amazingly helpful. You lay it out so clearly. One question though... I have Square for Restaurants for my coffee shop because my modifies look a little different. It looks like I can only require the modifier or not require it. How do I go about requiring customers select, for example, 2 of the modifiers? Also, in a list of 20 modifiers how do I set a max of 3?

    What if I don't want the price to decrease, only increase? For example, they just want the sandwich with no toppings. Allergy, let's say. Hold the whatever. I still want it to show the full price, and only change if the price INCREASES. That doesn't seem possible. Also, seeing the price drop when you first remove the modifier, even though adding another is required to get back to full price, is psychologically disturbing for a customer. They will feel ripped off when they realize 5.95 is technically an option, except they're being FORCED to order a side. Being able to just say 'ok, you don't want a side? Sure. It's still the full price' would be great.

    Hello, I have an online clothing boutique and I want to offer clothing sets and allow the customer to choose the sizes for their tops and bottoms. If I use modifiers I cannot track the inventory therefore someone could order a top in 1x and a bottom in 2x when one of them are not in stock/sold out. If I use options and variations, how do I make it so they have to choose both a top and a bottom?

      @ambrosiajohnson1141 This is really interesting. I think your best bet is to use an automatic discount when someone purchases both a top and a bottom, then you can promote it as "buy a top and bottom, get X discount". I'll put on my list to make a video going over automatic discounts in the near future.

      @nicoletozzochiarello6601 Unfortunately the Square integration with Facebook doesn't work correctly at the moment, and even when it does the checkout on Facebook is a massive headache. My recommendation right now is to just use a Square Online site, and link to it from your posts.

      @Skiesyourlimit What I've done in the past is use a text modifier. What you do is create a modifier set and select the type Text while doing this, then apply that modifier set to the items you want to collect that information for. Does that make sense? I didn't go over text modifiers in this video unfortunately, but I'll make a separate video in the near future going over them.

    How do I do separate rates for certain items, like I want to do free uk shipping but I can't do afford to do that for australia, so how would I have an item with two rates?

      @ClaireFrances You would separate this at the Shipping Profile level. What you would do is create 2 (or more) shipping profiles. Profile 1: UK (apply to all items) P1 Rate: Free shipping Profile 2: Australia (apply to all items) P1 Rate: Flat rate, weight based, live calculated, anything you want. The only limitation is that when we apply a rate to only certain items, those certain items only fall into that one rate, so we can't have an item that falls into multiple custom rates, but we can have as many geographical separations as we want as long as each shipping profile applies to all items. Does this make sense?

      @joeyziegler391 Unfortunately Square Appointments doesn't support showing modifiers to customers in the online booking flow right now. You could accomplish something similar with variations though. You could have variations such as: Oil Change Oil Change + Air Filter Oil Change + Wipers Oil Change + Air Filter + Wipers Etc.     I own a thrift store and use colored tags. I need to set it up to do colored tag discounts at certain times. Week one is all pink tags, week two is blue, and so on. I need to set up discounts on pink at 25% off for week 1, at week 2 ....50% off, week 3... 75%. How do i color code it and how do i create a sale for all 10,000 items of a specific color tag. Im lost and confused.

      @2nd2nothing51 @zoepearce1445 So with automatic discounts the only ways to target are by item, category, quantity, customer group, then by date (a specific date range), and days of the week. With that in mind, here's the assumptions I'm going to make about your setup: 1. You have 4 colors of tags (it'll still work with more of course). 2. You have categories for each color (Pink, Red, Green, Blue). 3. You have items in the category according to the price of the item (Pink $1, Pink $2, etc) 3.1 OR you have a top level item for each color, then variations with each price. So with these assumptions, I'd recommend setting it up like this: - Create 3 automatic discounts for each color (Pink 25%, Pink 50%, Pink 75%, etc). - Set these automatic discounts to apply for the specific dates of the week they should apply (week 1, 2, or 3). - Each time a new set of items or color is introduced into the store, update that color's automatic discount dates according to the schedule. Does this make sense? Let me know if you have any questions or if my assumptions were wrong!

    Two questions: 1) can you on the backend still offer pick-up for subscription-only items, or does Square force a ship-only option? 2) if you're a wine tasting room with a subscription wine option that allows subscribing members to come in and enjoy perks (discounts, tastings, etc): is there a way to access their subscription and automatically have their information (registered form of payment, discount type, etc) available to employees?

    We sell custom clothes and can't really list every variation so I use a SKU to differentiate items. For example I have a dress that is 18-24M SKU24031501 and another dress that is 18-24M SKU24031502 but it will not let this be imported what should I do? I will use pictures online so people can see the difference but not sure what I need to change. I am using options for sizing. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Can you make it so they can select the same modifier for more quantities? So lets say they want 2 sides of fries from your menu, can they add more quantities for that one side?

      @the_besler_cowgirl2553 I see what you're saying, but unfortunately Square's modifiers don't support this function right now. A potential workaround would be having another option of "Double Fries" or something similar. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      @jononthejourney You could have a checkbox on the item that asks if they want it locally delivered, then just deliver it and mark it as fulfilled. There's not an ideal way to do it, but maybe that's helpful!

      @user-vp2zo7jq3o you should be able to add the item in Square, then tell it what sales channels to display in. Or, add the item to Square, then go to Online Sales Channels and edit it's Facebook related attributes there. Some of my clients have been having issues with Square / Meta integration recently, I'm still figuring out what's wrong, but it seems that the integration has a bug.

    Great video. I wanted to use a modifier text box so that a person could enter the names of the people they are buying tickets for. However, I can't figure out how to get a report that shows the purchaser, item, and then the information in the comment box. I would then use the comment to make an attendance list for the event. any thoughts?

      @tinaryder9126 @camilogonzalez2980 I actually just implemented this for a client. You can add the text modifier, then from the Orders screen in Square you can export a report that shows all the modifiers. From this list you can see what they entered.

      If you're referring to cash as a payment method for QR code ordering, no, that's unfortunately not possible. You can of course accept cash on the POS though.

      @melissason6514 In the settings for each printer, at the bottom, there’s a tab called “Categories to print”. You need to setup this setting for each printer. I do cover this in the video.

    When I go into the link to setup my business manager account from square dashboard, I get a message "we limit how often you can post in a given amount of time." I can not go anything further. Do I need to create a bussiness manger first and how do I do that.

      @@appaloosatech Thanks for the video, still having problem with the connection. When I go through and select my business account then the next screen is blank. Its don't show any pages for me to connect on the connect Facebook page. Des this make sense.

      That does make sense. Make sure that your Meta Business manager is setup correctly. If you have multiple, ensure that you have one that has all the resources connected properly, then remove any unused Meta Business manager accounts.

    very good video! it's sad that their system is so archaic... shipping cost are not the same across Canada... if you live on the east coast shipping will be different if you ship to the east as opposed to the west.. they should have an option to set different rates for every province and state.

      This is possible in 2 ways: 1. Live calculated shipping, available on the Square Online Premium plan. 2. Creating different shipping rates for different provinces. You could create a different shipping rate for each province, or group them. You would simply create multiple shipping rates, then select the country Canada, then you can select which provinces the shipping rate applies to.     Can you go back in and add options after you disselect an option: For instance how can i go back into the variations and add Green Large after it was taken off? Also if an item is out of stock will it show the variation as out of stock and pull it down from a selection?

      Yes, on the item, at the bottom of the variation list there's a button labeled "Create variation". When you click that, you'll be presented with 2 options: "Add missing option value combinations" and "Enter custom option values", select that first one. Below that, you'll see the missing variation(s) and be able to select those, then create them. For your second question, yes, that's an option. In Square Online, go to Items > Item Preferences (or Shared Settings > Item Preferences if you have multiple sites). In this area, you can change how the site handles out of stock items. You can have an out of stock indicator and you can have it show or hide items that are out of stock. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      Hi! What about if I have wine by the glass and 7 glasses is a bottle? How can I discount from the bottles stock?

      It's not ideal, but my recommendation would be to create a custom unit, then have all the bottles of wine sold by that custom unit. To do this, you'd go to Items > Units, then add a unit called "Glass". Then, you would create your bottles of wine to be sold by that custom unit "Glass" instead of being sold per item. Note that this would also track the stock in glasses, instead of by the bottle. You could also simply track by the unit and know that each 7 is a bottle. There's not an ideal way to do this unfortunately.
