Nebo Pack Goats
США
Добавлен 9 фев 2020
Nebo Pack Goats is a channel that my family and I will be using to track our new adventure into the hobby and business of pack goats. We will track the growth of our goats and their training as well as basic care and health of raising and owning true pack goats. We hope this new step will be something that brings you into our small town lifestyle, family hikes and back country hunting and fishing trips.
At some point we hope to bring those along that would like an adventure to the highest peak on the Wasatch Front. Please like, comment and subscribe. We are in no way professionals and would love your help along the way.

Can you use goats for decoys when hunting?

We have used goats to help pack into difficult country for a couple years now. We have also used these goats to help us on hunting trips. We wanted to see if other hunters have found that using goats actually attracts animals. Let me know what you have found.

When raising goats or any kind of animal you will deal with ticks at some point. We have found ticks now and again but nothing like this. My daughter must have had this tick in her had for days. My wife was the lucky one to remove this massive tick!

Make sure to let your pack goats rest along the trail
I don't recommend that stainless steel The bottom has a seam where it collects spoiled milk. Have to boil every time for sanidizing too much headache. I modified my hoses with inline filter and valve off Amazon.
I think u supposed to clean the nipples first
Is there a reason why you don't drink the goat milk? I have two Alpine nannies with kids a bought the battery powered milking machine. I plan on drinking the milk.
Hello, reguards from Brazil
I have the same milking machine 🥰. For cleaning, I reconnect all the hoses after emptying the milk, fill a sink with hot soapy water, then hot water with a little bleach and then rinse water. The machine pulls through the hose to the pail and then I just brush clean pail I love goats milk, I have so much less issues with it than cow's milk.
What machine is it? They all look alike and I need one
I would subscribe, but this doesn’t really tell me which one to buy. It’s not really helpful.
What is the name of the machine?
I found the milk machine brand in comments, but Amazon no longer carries it. Was wondering what you purchased & is it working for you?
Thank you for this been looking at the cheap machines but so worried about taking the plunge do you have a link for the one you have?
It’s a mystery. I can’t see a link or a description anywhere and his description narrows it down to about 10 brands.
I tried a similar machine, but it just not latches on my goat teats (Lamancha, quite a big teats). Any ideas how to solve it? I would like to use the machine instead of hand milking to save hands from developing arthritis or some other possible issues. Thank you.
Curious why you guys don’t drink goat milk? :)
Can you tell me which milker this is from Amaxon?
Why don’t u drink it?
I need this for my jersey would it work?
I believe so. I had a am alpine with big teets and it still worked great!
Would this work on Saanen? Large teets
I think it would work great! I have used this on a big alpine and it worked great!
Thank you for sharing.. Wow, my son refuses to drink any milk other than goat milk.. My husband refused to try it for years, now he is hooked!! :)
I need to give it a shot!
Thanks so much for this video! I have the same machine and I was wondering if you don't clamp the lines before you attach them to the teat? Also the dial on the vacuum pump - how high do you like to turn it up?
Hey Kelsey the only time I use the clamp is if one teat runs out of milk before the other. You must have an upgraded pump, this one only has one speed!
Do you not disinfect the teats before and after milking?
We don’t disinfect most of the time since we are only using the milk to bottle feed the kids.
@@RandyMangumTannerMangum_611 ah, makes sense 👍
Why don't you drink the milk?
Every year we consider it but end up giving so much of it away to friends with bummer lambs or other animals that need it this time of year. We also dry up the does early because of the limited time.
One year later, has the machine held up okay? I’m about to buy one today.
The machine is still running like a charm.
Still going strong. Just make sure to keep tabs on the screws. They work themselves loose.
@@nebopackgoats3332 Have you ever had any issues with the pulsator not working, and if you did, how did you resolve it?
What are some real good goat milking machine brands?
How often do you have to milk her?
Two times a day
Did you say you don't drink goat milk ?
Ya we use it for bottle feeding
Whoa, cool sighting.
I ended up finding another just above me after my nap! There were munching on a dead head!
I just bought what looks to be the same off of Amazon. I have Nubian/boar cross with larger teats. I did not try let the suction pull them in my first try and just gave up and went to hand milking. Do you think a buffer teat will fit?
I had an alpine with larger teats and it would just suck the teat in. I almost felt like it was faster to just milk her by hand but the machine allowed me to work on getting the other goats ready.
Do you have the link available for this machine?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, here is the link! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KCYF96B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Why bottle feed the babies instead of letting them nurse from the mamas? Seems like an unnecessary step?
The kids can often take more milk than they really need. The milk is valuable so a lot of people bottle feed the kids a milk replacer formula.
We use the kids as pack goats so bottle feeding slows the goats to imprint on us and they end up following you on the trail like a family dog.
Could you send me the link for the one you got? I got one and we just tried for the first time and I feel that its not suctioning properly. I stopped and still got lots of milk by hand. I really want the pump to work. ;(
Sorry for just getting back with you. Here is the link! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KCYF96B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Still using this? Have you upgraded? Updated review?
Sorry for just getting back with you. Yes we are still using the same unit. Great little machine. Just make sure to tighten the screws once a week. I have lost a couple.
Can your wife show us how to do the vaccine it seems like I remember if you hit a certain place in the back of the leg that it messes them up real bad
I will!
Thanks for the video great stuff. really considering getting into pack goats my only question regarding the cold weather is can they do these later snow wind chill season hunts. I hear keeping them dry is important tarps and goat coats but what about traveling from a warmer area then going hunting in a really cold environment. My winters have no snow and only get down to 30 degrees roughly. I’ve hunted close ton 0 and sub. Would this shock the goats or be able to hunt with them in that weather thanks much sorry for the long winded question.
I mean not every hunt obviously is that cold but some mule elk hunts as you pry know..just don’t wana get in two over my head but really wanting to get started with them thanks again!
@@joshuajackson8112 honestly everyone likes to keep their pets warm and safe however these are animals and they can do just fine on the top of a mountain without a blankly! I get a kick out of all the gear being SOLD to keep your wild animal happy. We were in snow over the muzzleloader hunt in Utah and I am confident the goats were a lot warmer than I was with all my fancy gear!!!! Just my opinion...
@@nebopackgoats3332 that’s really go info to hear..thank you when there’s no snow on the ground you let your goats just graze I got 14 acres grass and weeds planning on letting that be a main food source
@@joshuajackson8112 good luck and keep me posted!
Are you pack training them yet?
We are doing a little light packing with our boys that were born last year but still haven't put any weight on these guys. Next year we will add a little!
The old Boyscout manual says to light a match then blow it out, quickly touch the back of the tick with it while hot. I tried it on two different ticks and got the same result... nothing. I also tried vaseline, didn't work either, although it seemed like the tick pulled out a bit easier.
Funny how the best procedure changes each year. I had to look up the best option according to popular opinion!
Please keep posting this type of stuff. Maple canyon is awesome, and seeing your goats there is entertaining.
Thanks John!
I live in the city of Chicago, no goats or sheep, just rats, cats and dogs. Cool video, learned something new.
Hello! I’m looking to different milking machines for my small homestead. I was wondering if you are still happy with the machine?
If you have a small setup it works great. I think if I had more than two does I would spend the extra money for a higher quality machine. I have sure enjoyed it for what I do!
@@nebopackgoats3332 thanks for the advice. We currently have three but will be bumping to four next year and five the following.
@@semojohomestead Nice! If you are out Utah way look us up, we will be selling all our doelings and bucklings next year.
@@nebopackgoats3332 we are actually in SC. Love y’all’s idea of training them to be pack animals.
Not a hunter but yes - I have deer follow and join us all the time on hikes when I take my packgoats out for browsing exercise walks off the back of my property. Sometimes for many km's Especially in the Spring and Fall.
I had another experience this weekend where a couple doe walked right up to me when I was cleaning our a mule deer. Unreal how they bring so much comfort to the wild animals!
Why do yall only use male goats? And also what kind of goats are those
We use the males because of their size. These are full alpine goats which we are targeting 230 lbs. These guys are young and have a lot of growing to do.
YEah...works great 'til they find a bush, or post, or tree. THen they get all wound up. Or maybe mine are just particularly gifted.
I think they all have the same gift! I have talked to my friends that run sheep and they will hobble their animals from time to time. I will see what he recommends and let you know!

How much space do you need to raise goats?
It all depends on how involved you want to be with your goats. I have seen people make it work with .25 acre! I like having more room for the goats to be goats!
Dang!!! I hate those things. I didn't know you could just yank em out like that. I always heard to burn them with a match or use Vaseline to suffocate them! "Don't put it back in!!" That was a good line!
I was cracking up when she said that! I guess the yank out way is what they recommend right now.... I am sure that will change again in a year.
@@nebopackgoats3332 No joke, that's usually how "Recommended Procedures" go! 😁

Maple Canyon is an extremely unique place to rock climb! I need to get back there. I believe the only other place with that kind of rock is in Greece?
We are lucky to live just around the corner! I have never been to Greece but I have a buddy that climbs there all the time. I hope to make a trip at some point in my life!
Eek saw that contraption the goat was in and thought it was a guillotine!
It is actually a great way to keep your goats safe when milking or working on their feet. But it does look a little evil!
@@nebopackgoats3332 just asked my husband what he thought it looked like and he said goat guillotine as well lol. Oh right, so that you don't need another person holding the goats still to milk them? I have a question. How long does a goat give milk after its had a kid?
Wow you got it cheaper than I did mine was almost 300.00.
Oh dang!
Yeah I said the same thing but more😂
I just happened to come across your channel and I enjoyed it even though this was a milking machine review. Do I own a farm? NO, Do I own goats? NO, heck Do I even own a house? NO, but I really enjoyed your video and I look forward to seeing your channel grow!
Thanks Ashley! This really means a lot! I plan to get some content up with the new goats now that the weather is warming up!
