Today I will be telling you of something magical, beautiful and sad. The remembrance ceremony of the stones.

The World is born! Norse Mythology Part 1
who else is here because of idunn from SMT V?
He's cursed, because they made him a xtian. Digri is stout, but not tall and handsome like Thorkell. His fosterfather was Rani. He was not a good ruler, like king Knut. However his luck ran out, without the silver he got from Æþelređ. However, forcing the heathens to stop following the old customsl makes me hate the guy's guts almost 1000 years after Stiklestadir!
I hope you don’t mind but I have added a link to this video on my Substack post. I have recently visited Norway and our tour guide shared this story. 🙏💜
My new life quote “if you’re looking for a moral to this story..eeeeh, well there’s not one.” *eats apple*
This guy is my favorite storyteller on RUclips. Would love to hear him tell the tale of how Loki became aesir
Asgardian apples isnt it good asgardian wood??? Green wood sings so Sweet...
I am a "Grown" adult and I listened to you tell this story so well I felt like a child again, thank you so very much.
Thank you for gracing my night with wonderful tales of old; May you have many joyous nights friend.
Thank you
Hope you're doing well, man. I love your storytelling ❤️
Big shout out to the kid who sat down on camera and immediately started eating his boogers behind you 😂 Gotta love it, we were all there once
The thing that made me fall in love with Norse mythology was Ratatoskr. Something about a squirrel talking shit and trying to get a dragon and an eagle to fuck each other up is really funny and imaginative. This comment wasn't related to the video, really. But thanks for posting I enjoyed the story you told too.
Great history thanks for sharing it .
This quality is so good
supposedly an ancestor of mine
I just found this video, man the way you told the story was excellent, I love it
Best storyteller I've heard telling this story. Amazing!
Randomly found dis while searchn for dark side of otters
That looks absolutely amazing
What happened to this channel
You're a great storyteller mate and not unlike Thor yourself 😀
Thank you Thomas! I'm really looking forward to more stories from you! Cheers!
Den mest underskattade kanalen jag sett.
You're fantastic. Greetings from Colombia.
Charming!
Wish I could give this 1000 thimbs up. I was born about 300m from foteviken and maybe I knew this story as a child but I have since forgotten :) Thanks for bringing it back to me.
That was a great story. You are a fine Skald.
Pray for us Saint Olaf
Wow 😍 Loki and the golden apples reminds me of Sun Wukong and the peaches of immortality
Can you please do part 2? Thanks! Great content!
According to Norwegian Church records I am a 34th great grandson of Olaf Haraldsson thru my great grandmother Anna Holmen. My 3rd great Grandmother is buried in the cemetery at the church in Vuku near Stikelstad.
I’m also a descendant of his, he’s my 31st great grandfather.
@@cblood96I am glad to meet you. I've been looking outside my family trying to connect with other descendants. Do you know where in Norway your roots are?
@@cblood96 are you sure about the numbers I'm 69 years old my Great Grandfather Ole was #31 in my family. Did you get the number from official sources? Or oral family history. Just curious.
@@marlobreding7402 I'm not the person you're trying to reach, but I *do* have some info that might clarify your questions on the descendants of Saint Olaf: The 1st thing to note is that Saint Olaf had 2 recorded children; the 1st was his 'natural' son, Magnus the Good, who himself became a King of Norway. Magnus had no children, so no one can claim descent from Saint Olaf thru him. The 2nd recorded child of Olaf was his legitimate daughter, Ulvhild (spelled in German Wulfhild). Olaf, looking to cement his rising power w/ a marriage alliance, arranged to marry his daughter to a potential ally, Ordulf, duke of Saxony. It is thru this link all documented descendants of Saint Olaf are known; Ulvhild & Ordulf are documented to have 1 son, Magnus (named after his mother's half-brother), who succeeded his father as Duke of Saxony. Magnus, duke of Saxony (grandson of Saint Olaf) had 2 daughters; the 1st was named Wulfhild after her grandmother, while the 2nd was named Eilika after Ordulf's mother. Both daughters married well; Wulfhild married Henry the Black, duke of Bavaria & a member of the Welf dynasty. Eilika married Otto, count of Ballenstedt, a member of the House of Ascania. Both marriages produced offspring. Since these marriages occurred early in the histories of the Houses of Welf & Ascania, all subsequent members of both Houses are descendants of Saint Olaf. Both the Welfs & the Ascanians proved successful dynasties; the Welfs became Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg, a branch of which established the Electorate of Hanover & thence the House of Hanover that provided Kings of Great Britain (of which Queen Victoria is the most well-known member). The House of Ascania provided Margraves of Brandenburg, Counts of Anhalt, & Dukes of Saxony. Of note, Russian Empress Catherine the Great came from the Anhalt branch of this dynasty. While the male-line descendants of both these dynasties are quite small in number today, they had numerous branches, most of which left female-line descendants. Of interest to Scandinavians, several members of both dynasties made marriage alliances with later Kings of Denmark, Norway, & Sweden. For example, the wives of Danish kings Eric Plowpenny & Eric Klipping were Ascanian descendants of Saint Olaf. A daughter of Eric Plowpenny married Norwegian king Magnus Lagabœtir which produced 2 sons who became kings, incl. King Haakon Magnusson, thus restoring the blood of Saint Olaf to the throne of Norway. The Kalmar Union Oldenburg king, Christian I, was descended from both Eric Klipping & Haakon Magnusson, so he had several descents going back to Saint Olaf. His descendants would continue to make dynastic marriages with the Houses of Welf & Ascania; Christian III married Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg, who was an Ascanian. Maud of Wales, wife of Haakon VII, was a descendant of Queen Victoria, & thus herself a descendant of Saint Olaf thru the Welfs. As you can see, there are probably millions of such descendants living today. As a result, while the number of generations will be large, it isn't too surprising the number of generations can vary by 2 or 3 among documented descendants; men typically married later than women in those days, so lines consisting of mostly females will, in-general, have more generations than lines of mostly males. Bear in mind also that younger branches will take longer to reproduce than older branches (since they were born later), so descendants of the younger branches will, in general, document a shorter number of generations than members of more senior branches. Still, one has to be a documented descendant of the Welfs or the Ascanians in order to claim descent from Saint Olaf. Any other lines of descent are either outright forgeries, mistakes, or misinformation.
Great vid but its very quiet
Artful storytelling. Thank you!
Oh my friend where are you? Is everything okay with you? I'm missing your videos. 😢
This man has a great voice for telling these stories. Very happy i subscribed
good shit brother! skal! from Soren in amerikkka!!!

What does that mean? Your kid has problems imagining stuff??
Good story bro! Your danish friend misses you 👍
this guy was my teatcher
This story was great and well told!
It wasn't depressing. It was heartfelt and authentic... and very windy.
Awesome video again brother! Maria was like a great choice for a first interview. She seems very kind and is fun in conversation. If Foteviken attracts people like you and her I should certainly visit. Such a relaxed atmosphere and these videos are fantastic marketing! :-D It's an 8 hour drive from where I live in the netherlands so driving up is certainly not outside of the realm of possibilities.
It's great that you're doing these vidoes. But my ears would really love it if you got some kind of protection for that microphone... half the time I can only hear wind... :/
Nice place bro! 👏💙
Easily the best word to describe the vikings, Honourable
As hard as it may be, it sounds like a lovely way to pay your respects, thank you for sharing. Looking forward to some footage of the archery competition if you have time between competing to capture some of it.
Maria Woop Woop! Allways worth fanboying for her. :D
I really love being able to "revisit" Foteviken in this way through your videos. The nostalgia is real, but I'm also learning new things and "meeting" new people. Thanks so much Thomas! I hope you will keep this endeavor going for a long time to come. Greetings from the Friso-Saxon heathlands of The Netherlands, from a namesake.
Faen, eg ville elska sjansen til å kunna verka i slik ein stad, men uheldigvis bor eg på den andre sida av verda. Ser veldig interessant ut, gleder meg mykje til å sjå på denne serien av videoar
