First high-speed test with the throttle wide open (WOT) at 4500 feet. Rick and I communicate by phone via the Garmin GTR200B radio/intercom bluetooth feature. The results were very pleasing.
Continued testing Europa XS at Wedderburn

Working through the mandatory 25 hours of flight testing. Just in case you're wondering - we are using the grass runway at the moment as it's a more forgiving surface than the sealed runway while we get used to the Europa's characteristics.

Removing Amine Blush after finishing and sanding a composite wing
Просмотров 9485 лет назад
My sandpaper kept clogging after my final application of epoxy had set. The paper was just about unusable after 30 seconds of use. West Systems said I might have Amine Blush. Here is what I did to remove it. Thanks to Sam Hoskins for a great video about his Epoxy Wipe method ruclips.net/video/43K1qwoHbnc/видео.html - check it out.

Flight in my Jabiru LSA from Wedderburn airport
Nice!
Beautiful!
Very smart! I love the decals … so much so, you’ve inspired me to rethink the decals on my Classic G-BWYD👍
Im glad I was able to provide some inspiration to my friends in the UK. Let me know if you want some more info. Cheers
Beautiful panel (and plane!). Do you also have the garmin autopilot servers and controller? Is that a Gen4 Jab 6? Or Gen3? Thanks for posting!
Thanks for your comments. Yes I have the GSA28 Garmin servos for the autopilot. The controller is the GMC507. My engine is only GEN 1 - Solid lifters with thick fin heads. Cheers
@@tonyvaccarella5362nice! How do you find the AP in turbulence? Did it require alot of tuning? You have aileron trim, correct?
Gday I purchased mine part built, well mostly built. I m sorting issues and jobs that were not completed correctly which is more difficult than doing it correctly in first place. Mine looks like wings on an fly but it's not. What engine do you have? Mine is 914. Best regards Steve
Gday and congrats on the first flight. My Europa XS is still a long way from its first flight. How did it go? Best regards Steve
From its maiden from, the aircraft has performed at or very close to the book figures. As with all aircraft project, there are always little bugs that need to be sorted but now that we have completed its mandatory 25 hours testing, most issues have been sorted out and we are very happy with its performance. What stage are you up to?
Do you have videos of the build on this plane? There's a person near me (central US) with a 2008 XS taildragger for sale. It's disassembled, but complete except for the engine and instrumentation. I'd love to see more of yours, because I'm very tempted to buy his!
I have tons of pictures but I purchased the partially completed kit from Georgia in the USA. When I received it, it had the main-wheels already assembled. Is there anything specific you wanted to know?
Yes good stuff, great numbers, thx for sharing! Is that powered by a 6 cyl. Jab engine? I'm up in Canada slowly working toward airworthiness on my XS Mono 914, cheers
Hi Dwayne - yes - this is powered by the older style Jabiru 6 cyl - with the solid lifters. We're still doing some speed and fuel flow tests at 25 litres per hour we are getting about 124 indicated and at 20 LPH we're at about 118 kts. Thanks for your interest and good luck with your project. Let me know if you need anything.
Congratulations!!!!!
Congratulations and well done Tony. Your baby has left the nest finally
Congratulations 🎉. She’s a beaut! Well done Tony!
Congratulations Tony, fantastic achievement and I wish you many great flights for the future! What engine do you have, doesn't sound (or climb) like a Rotax . . .
Hi - My engine is the Jabiru 3300. Its a early version of the engine which had solid lifters. Jabiru have now moved to hydraulic lifters - but Im happy with these older engines. Preliminary tests have shown that at low power setting - approx 50% to 60% - and without wheel fairings, we are getting 127 kts indicated. So at the higher power end, Im hoping to see around 135kts to 140kts.
She’s a beauty! Congratulations 🎉from Austin Texas! A058
Thanks for your comment. My serial number is A011 - started its build back in about year 2000.
You’ve inspired me to get back in the air again after a Covid hiatus- I converted mine to a trigear. Originally built by Jim Nelson in ‘98
@@SooperToober Im really glad to hear that. Its sometimes very challenging and a true test of character - but stick to it and one day you'll have finished all the jobs you have to do.
Nice Tony !!😊
Thanks 👍
Congratulations!!! I have chill bumps!!
Thank you - you're too kind
Well done 👍, is that the ‘Swiss’mod undercarriage?
Not sure if it’s the Swiss mod but I know it as the Bob Berube mod
It’s actually a Grove undercarriage.
Ok , in the U.K. the only ones approved are the ‘Swiss mod’ which uses a carbon fibre hoop, and the ‘flyer mod’ which uses the trigear legs. Is you’re leg an aluminium one piece?
@@stevenstyles7602 Yes - my main gear is a one-piece aluminium structure.
I fly here #TheOaks
I'm having the same issue on my boat build. Applied a coat of epoxy yesterday afternoon, temp was 72 degrees. Over night it went to mid 50's. This morning I planned on sanding in preparation of applying another coat, but it had alot of Amine blush on it. Wiped down the hull with Acetone with no effect. Googled it and it recommended warm soapy water and a scrub pad. I've done this twice with only marginal results. Any thoughts?
Hi Randy, I simply used warm water and a Scotch Brit pad. I'd give this another try and make sure you give it a good scrub. I was advised that the Amine is water-soluble so don't use any soap.
@@tonyvaccarella5362 Thanks so much Tony for your response. Since the weather has cooled off here I've noticed a greater presence of Amine than during warmer temps. Seems there is always gremlin's out there to slow down progress! Best of luck on your build Tony.
@@tonyvaccarella5362 Just finished scrubbing the hull and it came out perfect! So glad I watched your video Tony!
@@randyw6864 Randy - Im very happy that it helped.
Yeah! I started too far away from the field and thought I would have to go around and give it another go but the Jabs glide pretty well. I was a worthwhile exercise to see the distance you get in a glide. This glide was a flapless landing otherwise would never have made it. !
