    The score is one of my favourite parts. I was very disappointed about the tv-movie look for lack of a better term. I always wished, Kull looked more like Conan the Barbarian. Also the filming locations did not help. Overall, yes, it aged better than expected. I watched it quite some times in the olden days of VHS.

    Dragon Heart is the best theatrical fantasy movie of the 90's. Yes Dragon Heart is a perfect sequel to Merlin. Sam Neil was great!!! Wore my copies of both out. The Merlin miniseries doesn't get enough love.

    I am more and more impressed the more I watch your channel. First Dragonlance and Tolkien's Legendarium, now Dragonheart and the Star Wars expanded universe. Yes, Drago absolutely is the most christian dragon, although I would argue that Gwyneth from dragonlance is a close second. Now, is Dragonheart the best fantasy before 2000 after Merlin (1998)? Well,... no, I have some that do surpass it: Koschej the deathless (1944) is about a creature from slavic mythology who was actually so fascinating back in the days that Rowling took her Voldemort from that folktale. This is also where the King of the Wild hunt (the Witcher) originates in. I also think Ralph Bakshi's LotR surpasses Dragonheart. While the movie has flaws, such as a rushed ending and obviously like all Lotr adaptations it is nowhere close to the magnificence of the books, it still is impressive. Not only was it rotroscoped in its entirety (an incredibly tough process, a dedication nowadays not existing), but Peter Jackson took his Nazgul scenes from there. I personally think Bakshi's Nazgul are by far the greatest movie portrayal of the Nazgul. Also Aladdin (1966) is another classic. While not as philosophically profound as the two mentioned above, the soviet adaptation of Aladdin is actually 1000 times better then disney's. Not only is it life action, but its special effects aged well, something I am saying about a 1966 movie, let that sink in. But what really makes that movie is the antagonist's actor. There's a scene in which he walks through Bagdad asking for Aladdin, son of Ali Almaruf and the way he talks while looking down on the common folk in his complex of superiority. Imo this is the best cinematic portrayal of Arrogance. Also, No way is G. Lucas portraying warfare in the most realistic way. The fact that all ships need line of sight to destroy other spaceships is kinda hilarious. (This is something Dune and Hyperion do not) Like ... remember the Dark Empire comics where Palpatine builds a superweapon that actually has a built-in radar requiring just coordinates to end a planet? I mean, that's more realistic isn't it? It seems using radars to target at high range is actually smart. While one could argue for Palpatine to be a good tactician (even then he wins his battles due to the Star Wars equivalent of a cheat code: Battle Meditation) he definetely is not an efficient strategist. Palpatine spent massive resources on the death stars, both requiring line of sight to target immobile targets. While the second D-star vaporized some massive Mon-chalamari cruisers, it is worth noting that this could've been via a swarm of tie bombers protectet by some defenders. To be honest, Super star-destroyers like the Executor are already an over-extended investment, one could argue even Bellaton class Star destroyers are overkill already. Imagine all of these resources went into more Tie's ore better Radars, or stronger equipment for garrisons on the ground, or hyperdrives for Tie's. Btw, (Spoilers for Dragonlance Legends) since the Greygem and with it Ionthas rewrote the destiny of (among others) the Kenders, thus also Tasslehoff, with the timeline of Raistlin/Fistandantilus ascending to godhood being the destined "true" timeline, doesn't that make Ionthas the accidental saviour of Krynn and its entire cosmos? Think about it: both Astinus and Par-Salian stated that to the flow of time regular people are insignificant. Yet, Tasslehoff, who's existence by nature is a consequence of Ionthas' corruption changed the device manipulating time with the help of a Gnome, another being of Ionthas. Basically in the true timeline, Raistlin/Fistandantilus end the world, thus fullfilling what Ionthas always wanted to, yet Ionthas corrupting Krynn saved Krynn from that timeline. Isn't that poetic?

    Wow, how come this vid on the channel going on such a deep scale into Dragonlance Lore gets so little views. Always appreciated the way Palanthas was characterized by the authors, as having both the wisdom of the age before Istar and yet taking Istar's flaws with it. Btw, is it only me who thinks Dragonlance is especially close to Tolkien's Legendarium in terms of its parallels? Think about it: We have Kith-Kanan who is the equivalent of Gil-Galad. We have Huma, basicly Earendil. We have the high-god, who could be Iluvatar. Ionthas/Chaos representing Melkor/Morgoth Takhisis being Gothmog (fused with Tiamat from Babylonian mythology) Wyrmfather being basicly Glaurung The Ïrda being a reference to the followers of Fëanor's sons, with their change into ogres being the elve's change into orcs. Istar is a word both Lotr and DL use. Fizban being Gandalf. (both die, both are cosmic entities and both are actually extremely wise, with both hiding their true might, to give hope to others beneath a unique flaw, for Gandalf it is his changing mood and his underestimation of Gollum, whereas for Fizban it is his forgetfullness) Obviously both also have huge christian themes from the bible. Dragonlace even has its evil gods as the deadly sins. (Morgion is envy, Chemosh sloth, Zeboim gluttony, Sargonnas wrath, Hiddukel is greed, Nuitari pride and Takhisis lust.) Interestingly the good gods are sort of opposites of the sins: (Mishakal being empathy (and hope) as an opposite to Morgion's envy. Kiri-Jolit being justice (opposite to Sargonnas) Majere representing faith (opposite to Chemosh), Habbakuk is restrain (opposite to Zeboim), Branchala being generosity (opposite to Hiddukel), Solinari being wisdom, well all of the light gods are wisdom, but Solinari specifically being wisdom in the sense of humbleness as an opposite to pride (Nuitari) and Paladine being love. (opposite to Takhisis) I wonder though, who would be the Sauron of Dragonlance, as nothing seems to fit him.

    • @thebrotherskrynn
      @thebrotherskrynn 2 месяца назад

      Sauron could be Ariakas? But fascinating idea about LOTR = DL in some ways as a mirror. I really like this. But as to the lack of views, I suppose it's because DL is niche and also I'm not skilled at handling the algorithm and have shoved a boat-load of other fantasy videos and content together for a very unfocused channel. I love doing DL content, and have plans to do more starting soon.

    Love this Analysis, My take on these kingdoms has always been that there can be more than one cultural Palette. Koth can be both Proto-Ancient Greek AND have taken a great deal of cultural influence from regions like Shem or even The Black Kingdoms. Likewise Ophir can have the more pastoral Greek setting in the rural country and getting more like Medieval Italy in the larger cities to the North. Aquilonia is a multi-regional melting pot.

    Raistlin had to fulfil the prophesy and to do that he had to defeat the greatest mage of the past. By absorbing Fistandantilus' life force he was made physical whole again. The reason Raistlin appears decrepit when we first meet him is shares his body with another entity. I often wonder if Raistlin had protected Crysania and used her after Takhisis' defeat to create life, things might have gone differently.

    Par-Salian sends back Caramon because he wants to give him a big slap in the face about being codependent on his brother. To "save a soul", but also only because he feels bad for what he did. And by bad for what he did I mean he feels bad that he chose raistlin to be his tool and not someone else who wouldn't become so dangerous. Par Salian is a huge dick and none of his motivations make any sense. My biggest problem with the books honestly

  • @ArsenFox
    @ArsenFox 6 месяцев назад

    Oh. Raistlin never had great self-esteem. He started hating himself even more after the trial. Because he thought he killed his brother. Thank you very much Par-Salian for letting Fist intervene. Freedom, bah. LIAR. Ah, because Raist didn't actually kill Caramon. Or his illusion. Also he didn't sell his soul as authors try to convince us. The deal clrealy shows it was about LIFEPOWER, and and that it is FISTANDANTLIUS who actually should be serving the mage 🤭. I guess something changed after Abyss a bit. Maybe. Or maybe it got worse. And Raistlin WAS affected by Fistandantlius. We see it most clearly in Abyss and also in Istar - he is in his usual emotional turmooil but now it doesn't serve him. It is as if he is pulled apart in different directions. That because he consumed all knowledge but didn't sort the life shit. Andbascially put life of Fist on himself. Emotions are his weapon in critical situations. Since he appear to have traits of an empath.) There his patterns start to change most visibly. Caramon is not light though. He is darkness actually. No, better be said - earth. Generous, seem to be plain, caring. But earth also hides depths with both horrors and treasures in them and it was Demeter both Hades and Zeus bowed to. And Caramon is yandere. In fact, his love to Raistlin (platonic of course) is often comapred to Raistlin's love to magic. The twins really have much in common 😅. And Caramon was one of the few beings who actually knew AND understood Raistlin. Prove? Who stopped him? Gods? Crysania? Nope. A chestnut ball of sunshine. Perfect cure for powerlusting albinos with screw loose actually. Ask Last Order and Rin they know much about it. Raistlin though is not much lime darkness... In fact in books you can see hints that he is compared to... Fire. Oh, of course dangerous and sometimes destructive, yet as any flame with nature to bring light and warm. Which is quite obvious with his temper. If someone calls him "cold" this person obviously doesn't know him. What Raistlin is - is a tsundere, proabbly as great as his magic. Now, that is a level. LMAO. He is the literal DEFINITION of being a tsundere. You're also a thinker! - snorted Raistlin. Caramon didn't hear, he fell silent and glared at the cauldron, helping the rabbit stew. So what are you thinking? Raistlin couldn't take it anymore. Not even two minutes.... Raistlin: "I don't care about you!" Also Raistlin: "But I also want to prove myself, so I'm going to challenge you, just so you'll notice me and tell me I'm actually worth something." Also Raistlin: "I don't care about you, but it pains me that you would turn away from me in horror and disgust." Also Raistlin: "I'm very troubled and feel that no one understands or shows me enough kindness, but if anyone tries to help me, I'll flash on them and say, 'Piss off to the Abyss'." Also Raistlin: "I don't care about you so much you pathetic fool that I'll put a dagger to your throat, but here's a warning so you don't get hurt, but that doesn't mean I care about you. Hmphp. AND HOW DARE YOU THINK I'M WARNING YOU FOR NOTHING AND ANYWAY YOU DON'T TRUST MY OPINION!!!! *jealous*." 😅🤣. Bascially his main problem was that he knew himself very bad. And tried to search more power *proud Vergil noises* in order to fill emptiness inside of him while really he should have tried to find inner peace and balance of soul. He had enough light and darkness inside of him. And decent amount of strength. He just needed to find harmony.

      @@thebrotherskrynn I also love the fact well... Gods of Krynn are well... Not the most intelligent Gods I know. For example the creation of Greyhem of Gargath was going like that: Gilean: *gives people freedom and the right to choose* Gods: Obviously, to establish constancy and non-changing stability neutrality is needed. Someone: What is our power of neutrality? Gods: Chaos. Somebody: ... Gods: This seems like a very good idea, it will definitely work, what could possibly go wrong. It went like that: “If neutrality were the dominant force in the world, then the balance would remain constant and never shift. Agree?" "Yes." Chaos, which remembers exactly what gift (Freedom) Gilean gave to mortals: I guess, not all of my children should be bright. I will adopt that human magus instead. Lunitari, be generous, you should respect your grandfather, hand the little exception to me. Actually I have headcanon that Chaos is Discord.) Idk why I wrote that. Have fun. Also love ginger-like Gods of Endings, or rather Agents of Chaos🤭☺️. I just imagined Raistlin, myth Loki and Wukong sitting and chatting together. And yes, I am rumored to have some kender blood in me.

    Another thing I have been thinking about is the nature of the dead men of Dunharrow. In the films, we see them easily steamroll and massacre all the orcs and mumakils in the pelenor fields without breaking a sweat. This begs the question, why did so many riders of Rohan have to fall, including their king, for when the army of the dead could just easily mop the floor with Saurons forces. Don't quite remember how this was portrayed in the books, but this does make the great sacrifices of the Rohirrim and Theodens great bravery appear to be completely and utterly in vain.

      Thanks a bunch! Currently we've a stream planned for tomorrow, and we're gonna be getting some all new Conan content out in the coming days. I've not forgotten that we owe you a stream mon ami!

    Zelda is not a tomboy in Ocarina of Time, she's a person strongly guided by a sense of duty and piousness, she has a strong sense of her obligations towards the gods, her family and the kingdom. I also think she also doesn't like the idea of the sheika risking and losing their lives for her, so she somehow insisted on being trained as a sheika agent/warrior, eventually becoming a leader figure among the mysterious tribe of spies and bodyguards.

    I have actually merged Ravenloft into my dragonlance homebrew 5e campaign (in a way too complex way to explain here) and so this was very useful

    The Sancrist Isle was never broken off because it was an island before the cataclysm.

    56:50 I am doing alright and everything is going splendidly. Though I just occasionally wonder why I’m forced to think about practical and professional matters instead of just being able to frolic and troll for a living. 😏
