    • @SusanLenart

      That’s the whole learning process and know that’s normal when you get started. The flux keeps off the fire scale so you get a beautiful round ball with no pocks when done right

    Love your tutorials! I have a question about your solder board, how is it different than a honeycomb boards that I’ve seen?

    • @SusanLenart
      @SusanLenart 6 дней назад

      Honey comb boards are good and keep the heat circulating under neath your pieces. I use a solderite board because it is versatile in pinning bezel wire and holding T pins for more complex work such as granulation . If I used honey comb board I would feel a need to switch it out for certain techniques. If it works for you then do until it doesn’t

    My little shed is very damp. I keep tools in a plastic box with a lid and cover other things in plastic and put silica bags in with everything. The magnet trick is cool! I love forging when my arms are working well enough. I made a fab pair of large copper earrings recently. Big diamond shapes that I hammered hundreds of times and then curved in a doming block and made really black with liver of sulphur. They look fantastic! I am confused.. Do you have to cover your piece completely in flux? My silversmith teacher taught us to cover your piece in a boric acid/ alcohol solution. Then, she paints the green flux on only the seam that is being joined. Great video and thank you for all the tips! Im a beginner so apologies if this is a silly question lol

    • @SusanLenart
      @SusanLenart 19 дней назад

      Hey there, you will find that every teacher has their own way to do things and your teacher is a philosophy that is taught in college and at trade schools. Boric acid is flux. Flux only responsibility is to cover your piece to prevent fire scale. Therefor, yes, you really only have to cover the area being soldered. I hope that helps and welcome! It will be fun for you once you are done with school to build your own habits and pathways. Best

For all the younger people out there, don’t hide from fear. Accept yourself (and whatever criticisms come your way) and live your life. This is a lot harder to do later on in life.
