Smallest Paddleboard Yet!? Blackfin Ultra CX - First Impressions
In this video, I'll be taking the Blackfin Ultra CX out for a paddle on a glassy lake in the Canadian Rockies, and discussing the many differences and features of the new Ultra paddleboard lineup. These boards are some of the most portable SUP's on the market - they pack into half the space of previous models, and weigh 30% less. Despite the focus on ultra-portability, the Blackfin Ultra CX doesn't compromise on performance. Slightly narrower, more rigid and with deeper fins - the Ultra CX might be one of the best touring SUPs we've ridden.

    Something worth mentioning, should be how inaccurate the pressure gauges are. I invested in an oil filled 2 inch 0-30 psi gauge on one of my manual pumps. That being said nothing beats a 12 volt pump, the one I purchased from Amazon is dead on at 22psi.

    Gosh, with icebergs and snow??? Sprinkling sand on the board to not slip off the icy surface?? This is freakin' mad stuff you guys are up to, never occurred to me that this could be fun! But, seeing you, you are really enjoying what nature throws at you! I'm feeling like a bloody chicken now, using a wetsuit with 13 - 16 degrees C water temperature and still concerned about taking a dip. Great video, great tips, I really enjoyed, you made my day and I'll definitely change my way of thinking!!! Big hugs from Nazaré/Portugal xxx

    • @luftbrospaddle4656
      @luftbrospaddle4656 2 года назад

      Haha amazing! Nothing wrong with wearing a wetsuit and staying warm :) It never seemed crazy to us to be out in the cold, we're just keen to get outside regardless of the temperature. But there is a certain joy to overcoming whatever the elements throw at you!

    • @dodystiller3718
      @dodystiller3718 2 года назад

      @@luftbrospaddle4656 there is, definitely!!! And I guess when one is used to the cold and knows ho to deal with it year after year again, it is kind of "normal". For sure to those who are addicted to outdoors. There is 8 days missing to make it 20 years since I'm living outdoors and in freedom. I'm a sailor (although re-building my boat at the mo) and I really know about this joy of overcoming what the elements throw at you, makes us stronger. And often a great adventure afterwards (like this bloody hurricane that caught me halfway on the way from the Azores to mainland Europe in 2009)! Only, the cold ... I guess I've been in warmish areas too long. Last winter with my half open boat, the fierce winds blowing in through each single gap and temps outside dropping down to minus 5 Celsius I reached icycle-state even freezing sometimes in my bunk. Or this night at anchor in the Rio Guadiana with driving sleet and fierce winds. I had to go anchor-watch from midnight till the change of the tide at 8 in the morning getting freezing cold out in the cockpit. A hot tea, hot water bottle in my bunk, 2 hours of "sleep" and up again to find a more protected anchorage. Or sailing north with the boat of a friend. Suddenly and unexpectedly, after crossing Biscay and arriving in Brittany we found out that November is actually getting fresh further north and we had completely forgotten to take anything resembling warm clothes. But back to your video, there is several shots I've really been in stitches and every time again when I even think of it, most of all the one in your house-slippers where you demonstrate how to jump around on your board. Lively and so awesome, I love it!!! xxx

    • @dodystiller3718
      @dodystiller3718 2 года назад

      And what I love most: there is so many videos out there where people are playing the SUP instructor, tropical background, smooth warm waters all around, perfect conditions, and of course they pretend to know it "all". You don't, you simply are who are, you can't be bothered to pretend anything, to the contrary. And your landscapes are awesome! It's sooooooo refreshing and so much more fun!!!! Thank you heaps!!!!

      @@dodystiller3718 You don't know how much I appreciate hearing this :) Thanks so much for the feedback Dody! It's a little intimidating putting out videos when you know there are so many more experienced paddlers out there, but figured it always worthwhile sharing what you've learned regardless - there's always a chance it's exactly what someone else needed to hear! The thing you were talking about where you adjust your stance when needed, if found that to come in very handy when fishing and trying to stay relatively still while standing up. Sometimes I’ll choke up on the board to help fight breeze or wake.

    Nice video, nice rythme. The thing I learn from it is a very good one: to roll it from the valve (rear) makes it smaller! I live in Montreal and I intend to paddle late this fall until ice stops me. I got a drysuit that works great for the cold! What scares me the most with ice is to fall through going to the water, or to be suck under... I am thinking to always make sure I come to the ice againt current so no danger to go under. But there is a lot to think... Not always possible to have a close access to the open water from the shore. Please share your toughts about cold paddling issues!

      Fantastic to meet another cold-water paddler! We've learned lots paddling in the winter - will put together a video for that shortly!
