I lived up the street in a condo and surfed lunada for many years; 76-86. We never had a gang and never called ourselves bay boys. All spots on the planet are localized. hags is localized with non pv residents. It sounds like some locals at lunada have done some bad things in the last 30 years; documented in your video.

Oh I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. I'd love to get your recomendations on how to improve, if you have time.
I think it's even simpler than this in places. In the 50/60s rationing was still happening or a very very raw memory. So things like coffee and alcohol (not to the same extent as in the war. But production hadn't stepped back up yet) were prized beverages. Everyone got a tea ration. So bond eating a mango (believe that's Dr no? Where there's half a page talking about how nice the mango is) drinking coffee. And especially drinking coffee with booze would allow the average brit under rationing to go "oooooh I'd love a mango about now" you don't get the same effect with a cup of tea.
Some great insight. Thank you for sharing.
Or… is it…. 😂
Catfish… I don’t suppose you could give a quick watch to my James Bond coffee or tea video? I changed up my sound recording techniques and would love to get your feedback on if it improved or not. I value your opinion. TY
Just a quick note to say it's impressive how bad the audio quality is, and how inconsistently bad it is. Could be bad room echo, or background hiss, or maybe too quiet, or maybe this vid will be too loud. Oh, and I detect distracting music in the background, just slightly quieter than this hiss? Just awful
thank you for the feedback. I am trying out various mic combos. My latest efforts are running it thru garageband to add in some slight reverb. I shall continue to try to improve.
Very interesting
Glad you think so!thank you

@@discountedcashflows I’m guessing I’m too slow…based on your comment. Story of my life. 😜
@ lol good video overall
Call me a skeptic, but this seems alot like a 23 minute propaganda piece to rationalize years of bad behavior... including intimidation, vandalisim and violence. Here's the difference between North Shore localism and whats been going on in PV. At the North Shore, regular folks native to the islands are being "displaced" (in the water and otherwise) by people of wealth and entitlement. In PV, its people of wealth and entitlement "displacing" regular people. There's a difference... and that's why one is more objectionable than the other.
yeah especially considering over half of the work they did on this case was pro bono
@@batman50ish I apologize if this video appears to be excusing “bad behavior”. I appreciate your comment. It’s an interesting pov that you share … and is good for everyone to contemplate to contrast to the localism.
@@pvsurfer pro bono typically means without pay. Unless I’m wrong, there was a $4 million dollar payout to the attorney’s. Now, if Im wrong , please correct me, as I will then hide my head in shame about my ignorance.
@@batman50ish and….(sorry)… I do apologize that you felt this video was excusing localism. That wasn’t my intent . The fact that you felt it was an excuse for naughty behavior was do to a pathetic explanation by me. Mea culpa.
Nah, locals are locals. Protecting their own. Take your economic bias out of it.
I'd say you pretty much nailed it! Localism is just a problem of human nature, it happens everywhere if you look. The PV issue was made worse by the money & the power it gave those there & those that wanted money for their own (professional) reasons/lives. When it became clear that (actual) laws had been broken with no ($$) accountability, it was just a matter of time for the lawsuits to be filed, where the legal fees always outweighed any mitigation. Some lawyers made a profession out of suing the State "for/protecting the public", now remotely using Internet (tech) & Google (info)! These (crowding) issues happened all along the Coast as the population continued to swell in the Coastal Plain of California and human nature simply revealed itself in oh so many ways! I worked at an Environmental Foundation where we documented the (actual) "public access" points along the CA Coast. Even with maps it often took alot of effort & time to find these (official State) access locations due to how the wealthy homeowners would develop (hide) the area around their homes & pass (HOAs) rules regulating parking/stopping. In Hawaii (Kia) 5-0 (Cops) showed up before our photographer could even walk to the beach to document access and had parking/stopping regulations so strict visitors had to be dropped-off to visit/use the beach!! Even the Cop was embarrassed to be there, but that was his job...... The unfortunate truth is that there is really no human activity/experience that will NOT be negatively impacted by just simply adding more & more people to it until (eventual) drama happens.......enjoy & appreciate Life (activity) while you can. Mahalo.
Thanks for the great history lesson and vintage photos... When I reached the surfing age in the late 70's, E.T. Surfboards (Eddie Talbot) > (Dewey) Weber Surfbards > Rick Surfboards and Jaob's Surfboards were all in a row (relatively speaking) along Aviation Blvd and PCH in Hermosa Beach... Body Glove and Dive N Surf are (still) just down the street and around the corner from all of these. Dennis Jarvis worked at E.T. for many years before he started SpyderBoards further north on PCH and now on Pier Ave in Hermosa and Manhattan Ave in Manhattan Beach too. Phil Becker and Steve "Man-Jelly" broke off from Rick's and started Becker Surfboards. There' is a very rich history in this area from Malibu to Lunada Bay. Hermosa Beach had the most surfshops and famous surfers by a wide margin. E.T. Surfboards still exists... I wish that you would have mentioned it. "Eddie" always took care of the poorer kids by cutiing them deals on Ts, wax and trunks... I know, because I was one of them - Thanks ET!

@@TheSurfingLife in the world of “shameless self promotion”… I’ve done a few videos about surfing history in the South Bay you might be interested in…. Including replicating the camera angles of Batman 66’s surf episode down at Torrance….er….gotham beach. 😜
Growing up surfing down in San Diego in 80s/90s, I heard rumors of Lunada. Moved up to LA area in 00s and scoped Lunada several times but never had the stones to surf it due to the lore. I suppose the localism worked in that sense. Sweet vid, glad it made it into my recommended feed.
@@brandons772 thanks for watching
Hi, thanks for your video! 22:54 I'm an ex surfer who dedicated 15 years immersed in surfing. Santa Cruz, SoCal, lived in Hawaii - Kauai, Maui, for many years in the 60's and 70's. Local tribalism has always been a problem due to the fact that waves are a finite resource, and when demand ( crowds) outpace supply , tensions arise. "Success" of surfing has created way too much demand coupled by the fact that a majority of those out in the water dont know what they are doing and have very poor etiquette but heh we all start out as kooks. What we are witnessing is the end of those idyllic days when you could go out with some friends, go out in the water, socialize, catch a few waves and cheer each other on. Its sad but we live in an easily accessable world where even the most remote places are accessable by almost anyone which makes it too easy for those who just want to dabble can travel there as they dont have to work very hard to get there. For this reason i gave up on surfing and only occasionally keep up with the sport with videos such as this. Thanks again :)
@@robertmartin2604 great comment. So true about the finite resource…and about how times have changed. I gave up surfing also but I’m still down at the beach each week just …because….
Grew up in Redondo in the ‘60’s and there was a ton of localism, and PV was pretty bad. As for public access and development , what they did in Oregon (where I now live) is declared the beaches public highways so they couldn’t possibly be developed.
@@brucehartnell1475 declared as public highways? Wow… that’s a head scratcher for me. How does that work?
@ they actually used them for that purpose back in the covered wagon days. The beaches are pretty wide on much if the coast, and much more flat. It was simply the best option.
@ wow! You learn something new everyday. Cool history info. Thanks for sharing
really interesting you're saying the lawyers were interested in money, when they did over 4 million in pro bono work
