As a specialist you should know you never mix prepared food with kibbles, as you say. Digestion time of prepared food and kibbles are different.

I can't believe she skipped those important nutrients. I wouldn't feed spinach to humans or pets as it's sky high in oxalates and can cause urinary stones. Having been through surgery for several, it's not worth the risk. Also, I have a Saint Bernard, and if I made enough of that dish in the video for a week, I'd need a cauldron.

Thank you so much for these videos! I've been taking a very close look at my 12 year old dog's diet due to her first ever early health issue marker (high ALP) and never noticed how high her current food is in copper sulfate. Your videos have been so informative! I'd love to know your opinion on what foods would be good to give/avoid for a dog with high liver enzymes. Also thank you for making the point about expensive foods not always being the best, I used to work at a corporate pet store and they were so determined to make their employees believe and push the most expensive brands that weren't all that different from low budget foods.

Just saw this video today for the first time. I think it may depend on how she phrased the question when she called the vet. On some rare occasions that I've run out of my dog's food, and for whatever reason I cannot run to the store to grab more right away, I have called my vet asking about a recipe to see if it's safe to feed my dogs (like once or twice while I get a chance to buy more food). I'm sure vets get similar questions often, so if she wasn't clear, maybe the vet interpreted it as a "safe recipe to eat this one time" (as in "it won't kill the dog"), as opposed to a healthy/safe regular, everyday diet.

Have watched a number of your videos and never questioned the claim "PhD Nutritionist" . . until this video and these cited studies to support this. Sorry, but surveys and a study that take a glance at the nutrition labels do not support such a potentially harmful diet (more concerned for cats). In the nutrition work I've done we would NEVER rely on surveys or even the nutrition labels. The feed is tested, the animals are fed, and their WASTE is collected and tested. Blood is also taken and tested. Short of doing these things you have no clue what is going on. Sure textbooks will say one thing and models will say another, but. . . No survey will tell you how digestible a feed is and if even the basic needs of the animal are being met, much less if they are to thrive. . . and if that PhD is REAL you should know that. Standards have slipped.

Most homemade dog foods are missing raw meaty bones or a mineral supplement and organ meats. The easiest thing to do is get a balanced mix in like “Know Better for Dogs “. All the fillers veggies and starches are just going to rot teeth. Most of the videos on RUclips about cooking for a dog or cats have really bad information. I am sure that’s true of most other social media.

My 13.5 year old dog’s liver was failing. My vet added in a liver supplement and I added in a basic home cooked food (with turkey). I still give kibble but less than before. He said less protein for her would be better for her liver since it’s not working at full capacity anymore. Thoughts? The Internet is all over the place on this topic. We are on year two of this liver problem and her numbers are better and weight going back on.

Excellent...we here at Viand Pet I've ALWAYS (since 1996) recommended adding raw meat to my kibble, SIMPLE...and this is what he says towards the end. Dogs don't cook, so...my clients four legged companions have lived long healthy lives, proven now that we're in biz for this long. Use the kibble as a base supplying everything they need, but the "life" of raw food. Bravo to Dr. Francis!!

What should we add besides fish oil and I started to make my pups some but I want to make sure they're getting everything they should. My female Staffordshire Terrier has pretty bad hips. Her bones don't go back into her hip joints so the vet told us to but this liquid stuff and we also found these treat things to help. But, what else should we add Now I also have a Chocolate Lab who turned a year old last month. Any suggestions on what to add My Female stuffy is approximately 7-8.. all my hairy children are adopted so we're not sure of the real age except the lab because his "breeders sent him from Detroit to Baltimore city and knew his birthdate. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Trying to do what's best for baby boy and momma They're like our children. I also cook for my dogs. One is allergic to white potatoes and rice. So I stay away from grains. However I also give my dogs a daily vitamin and mineral supplement. I additionally add missing link and omega 3 6 9 fatty acids to their bowls. She probably also adds supplements. Store bought dog foods kept my dogs sick in one way or another. Either allergies, constipation, or UTIs. They never experience these illnesses since I began preparing their foods. You should probably laugh and at the store brands too! Those are the ones harming pets.

Fresh homemade food is less expensive than most commercial pet food, even with a premix. There is no one size fits all. All pets are different. I feed homemade because I feel it is better for them. Also, many commercial foods make one of my cats throw up. Even an expensive "sensitive stomach" food. Happy Feline Friday!

This what I feed my small and medium sized dogs on a daily basis: broccoli, fresh sliced carrots, a few green beans that are lightly steamed then minced followed with lightly cooked ground beef and turkey. the steamed vegetables are mixed together with the lightly cooked meat. Then I add 1 1/2 tsp (medium sized dog) of flax meal, 1/2 tsp chia seeds mixed in with vegetables and meats, and for my smaller dog, smaller amounts of chia seeds and flax meal, and because she is currently at 10 yrs old I also give her 1/8 tsp of turmeric on a daily basis that is mixed in with her vegetable/meat mixed food. One time a week I also give them raw beef liver and at times salmon or no salt added (in water) sardines. 2x/week I give my dogs a pro and prebiotic type of food; Stoneyfield Probiotic PLAIN yogurt and 1- 1 1/2 tsp of pure pumpkin puree. What else should I be adding to my dog's diet? I have seen the raw food diet for dogs, but this I am unsure of; I need help to balance my dogs' current meals so I can be reassured that they are both getting the proper nutrition their bodies absolutely need on a daily basis. I feed my dogs routinely; anywhere from 5:00am-6:30am in the morning and anywhere from as early as 3:00pm - 6:30pm for their second evening meal. Their second meal consists of lightly cooked ground Turkey then lightly steamed and minced cauliflower, peas, and some sort of green colored vegetable.

The PHD blew it when he said that dogs can eat garlic. Garlic, whether raw or cooked, is toxic to dogs. If a dog eats enough garlic, it can eventually kill them if they do not get medical treatment. Garlic, onions, and leeks are all in the Allium genus of plants. Dogs are not allergic to plants in this genus, but the plants contain N-propyl disulfides and thiosulfates.
