When speaking on patriarchy it is just as important to talk about misandry as it is misogyny. The reasons for this is that the patriarchy puts expectations of behaviour and hatred when members break expectations, on both genders. Also, women who benefit fro patriarchy of which there are many, enforce standards onto men as well. And finally, it is patriarchy to put undue expectations on men to change in the first place. This is just the danger protectionism of women and enforcement of men that we are trying to get away from. Ironically, I'm many ways we are just moving closer to a patriarchy by placing these assumptions on both genders.

What's worse, this has been so I grained in psychology that it causes even more damage for patients of un-evolved psychologists. I thank God for people like you who understand what it means to be a Real Man versus being a caricature of a man (a male). I can honestly say that patriarchy and toxic masculinity is a root of all oppression for all the groups of people, including immigrants and people with disabilities. Thank you so much for your beautiful and much needed work as it brings true Hope for more evolved Humanity and a better world for all of us pray 🙏 🌎🌍 Sending you blessings from the USA and from Poland, too! 😊

I’m 62 years old I spent 58 years desperately trying to be the man everyone expected me to be. I was raised in a small lumber town by a very conservative father who frowned on me wearing shorts or sandals “men didn’t wear shorts”. He was misogynistic and a racist. He once told me in disgust that I belonged in a skirt and tights. The only time he was ever proud of me is when I joined the military which I did to get away from home. Finally after retiring from the military, after my children were grown, I couldn’t live a lie anymore, I became my true self, I transitioned and finally live full time as a transgender woman. Now I understand the patriarchy. How much I benefited from it in my life as a man and how much I was brainwashed by it to fear my authentic self.

excellent description , explains the patriarchial man very well from a mans point of view. It takes a lot of stamina and perseverance to keep the boundary with this type of man especially if it is a family member. I have an older sibling and had a very hard time growing up with him. He was always bullying and putting me down and humiliating me if I did not act a certain way. And because it is a sibling its more difficult because there is a loyalty there that is difficult to negotiate with. It destroyed so much of my self esteem and created an internalised misogyny within me. took me a long time to reverse . I've noticed that hes gotten worse over the past few years because things are not going his way and hes become more insecure and emotionally abusive. He is draining to be around and he is lonely. Society has changed and he doesn't know how to adapt, still clinging onto the belief that everyone should be supporting him to achieve his goals. I feel sorry for men who are trapped and programmed in this way , they are not sovereign and cannot see a true sense of creation around them. I've love to share this video with him to give him better self awareness but I fear it would trigger him and overwhelm him.

Not everyone is selfish like the general public. I respect and thank you so much for explaining that to people. Those who are not affected tend to defend the status quo. It is hard for women to say that. We try but they call us crazy. As African woman, people including my family see me as crazy but when someone is hurt, it affects me. Now I am in a good position not going through violence but it hurts me when I see women and children mistreated. Some men are mistreated and that is wrong however they don't easily get trapped as women and children. I went through abuse as a kid and when I left the family, I was returned and the abuse continued for 5 years. Tried to kill myself but did not know how to. Now, I am not suicidal, decided to stand against violence.

These “beliefs” about manhood and anger towards women derive at their core from a very basic mammalian frustration of selection anxiety and a more or less simple fact of life: women select, men are the selected. Just observe footage of male chimpanzees in full out battle when a female goes into estrus. The ideas about self and women are just a cerebral “rational “ expression of this raw instinct. Human males are chimps who pulled panty hose over their bodies to hide their hair. What society will not allow physically comes out in a symbolic expression through language. Wars are at their core about containing this collective male frustration. That’s why soldiers rape. War is about this male frustration, political reasons are just the ruse and justification.

Im willing to talk about the negative aspects of patriarchy however this does not seem to be an objective un-biased view. Patriarchal men also stopped the German Nazis, they protect thier family units, stop bullies, start charities. Yes it can harm. But to say there are never any benifits raises my eyebrow that Im listening to a biased opion and not objective reality. Thats my issue with this stuff. Society tends to swing the pendulum too far as a reaction to legitimate toxic masculinity and you get videos like this where men are all bad and women can do no harm whatsoever. Have I missed the mark here?

Yes, men can be terrible, but women are just as bad. Women can be bullies, brutal, bitter, filled with jealousy, hatred, manipulative, and so forth. The spirit of Jezebel is everywhere on this earth. Women also abuse their children and spouses. Women can be participants in adultery and promiscuity, too. Women also tend to raise their sons and daughters to be bad. Jesus is coming soon, though, so no need to worry. It will all be over soon. Amen and amen...

I feel our view of masculinity has caused some of the issues trans people have. If you are male and sensitive it has ment that you are les masculine but that is so untrue. It only appears that men are not sensitive when a real man should be able to show there sensitive side and there is nothing wrong with it and to me it makes them more of a man to have the strength and bravery to show their sensitivity.
