My favorite song is ''You can do anything'' from Sonic CD!It's just that epic!It is motivationg and it sounds great! It makes me feel awesome!
Japan is a high IQ, racially homogeneous society of an imperial, ordered people. Therefore, it produces better, more capable and more original composers while America or Western Europe produce degenerate art.
How did you go from music discussion to racism
Matterfact half the osts he mentions in this video are inspired by americans. ESPECIALLY PERSONA 5 which is inspired by jazz
take a shower
i liked before starting the video
Civ 6 got a good soundtrack
FR tho, I still listen to oldies and independent stuff, but OSTs make most of my listening nowadays, in fact, I highly credit game music in making me explore more genres and revitalize my general excitement for music, as games have a wide representation of genres.
3 best video game music:doom eternal any song, samba de amigo samba de janeiro, and undertale hopes and dreams or something else.
Dunno if you will see it, but you should really check on the Project Moon games! they got amazing OSTs for a lot of fights and characters that really manage to grip you and make you feel what the characters you're fighting feel as well as your own!
this sounds like a take from someone who only listens to video game osts
hell naw
Just found your channel pete! Hope to see more vids soon!
Real
Pete: "So in this Pokemon game, you have to save the world." Ah yeah, makes sense so far. Typical Pokemon, simple, uncomplicated stakes. Good spectacle, but nothing really emotionally challengi- Pete: "But you will be erased if you succeed and lose everyone you ever loved." ...Come again?
nerd
17:18 That call theme I think ,every characters like villains or heroes (in Spiderverse 2 ,that not the real movie name but yeah) have their own themes songs
Just came over from WT and god you have a knack for these documentaries. This was genuinely and wonderfully written
Well, Pete, I did the thing and liked and subscribed, and I love these videos so far! Between your game music and this one, I think it's pretty safe to recommend "Sea of Stars," a throw-back 2D RPG with some definite inspiration from ATLA, including absolutely dynamite writing.
Who was the most famous French skeleton? Napoleon Bone-apart
Happy Birthday, Pete.
Pete, this was great. I came here after watching your farewell video on WT. I have a question for you.... a little context first, I havent played ANY of the games you listed. There was a whole generation of games that I missed out on, but each of the games you listed sound amazing. I too am a fan of video game music and appreciate what it can add to the story and playability. My question..... if you were to pick 1 of these titles and only 1 to play, which would it be? I have access to all of them and they all sound like something I would love. Gonna miss you at WT. Hopefully you'll stop by for guest appearances.
Im here from WrestleTalk Pete!!! Just Subscribed...God Bless
Pete ... You have been part of Wrestletalk since 2019 , around the same time i first started watching the channel... Cant really express how much sadness i feel that u are leaving brother... Well wishes to your future job brother 🙏
❤
I subbed now that you're no longer on WT. Looking fwd to this content.
Here from Pete's announcement he's leaving Wrestletalk 😢 At least I can see man formally known as Chopper review one of my favorite bad movies
The day i found out about Command & Conquer soundtrack i was listening to it 'till this day
Atla is amazing but OP is perfect
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHHHHAAHHAAAA
The fact that you didn't even used the best song for mystery dungeon like only the halfway point of the final crescendo of it's music shows how utterly underestimated those games ost are. You've barelly touched 1% of it.
You are still looking at video game music as an accessory to games and not as standalone music. Would any of this music have the same effect if it didn't have a game/story to go along with it?
Cant believe Tohu wasnt mentioned in this video :D Black Apple is a fenomenon
Videogame music had a short run, it had an incredibly unique identity to it in the 80s and especially the 90s and 2000s (those two decades being the golden age of videogames and of videogame music), but ever since the 2010s, videogame music has been losing its identity, broadly speaking. Almost all of it is reduced to just generic orchestral battle music / ambient tracks (due to the ever-growing influx of Hollywooders ComPosers into the games industry), or some mediocre attempt at copying a more niche genre to fit the game, but I could count on one hand the amount of games in the past decade whose soundtracks can actually stand strong on their own while having a unique identity. Neither the soundscape, nor the emotions, nor the composition or arrangement of modern game music is nearly as compelling as it was many years or decades ago. Exceptions exist, but they're incredibly rare...
Bro has never heard of Japanese/Korean video game music in his life. But seriously I agree western game music is mid
@@d3ly746 I have but even then I've lost all hope for it. Japanese VGM used to be legendary during the 90s, 2000s and even much of the 2010s. But I can't think of a single soundtrack in the past 6 years that has truly impressed or captivated me, Eastern or not.
Dev Patel was done so dirty in this film man, amazing actor who's had the misfortune of being in THIS absolute skip fire.
my top 1 game of all time where i constantly stopped, raised hands in the air and listened just the music is Persona 5, side note other atlus games have done same reaction on me but not as strongly
le soy
Should have mentioned the calamity mod ost
Where I can find a place that recommend music from other games if I have only played one genre?
Love the cosmonaut shoutouts
BURY THE LIIIGHT DEEP WITH IN!
No Risk of Rain 2, opinion invalidated (best music of all time ever)
So video game music is better than video game music yes yes!!
It’s not better than Radiohead.
Vidie game music isnt better than angelic 2 the core
That’s a long, long read ahead. Be warned. The amount of genius people working in supergiant games is absolutely anomalous. First and foremost, Darren Korb, the literal best composer of our time the way he puts storytelling in his pieces and songs. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any other compositions that feel like reading (consuming?) a story as much as Darren’s pieces. Some of the classical pieces come close, but Darren with his access to all the modern technologies and all the cultures truly gives birth to ultimately new type of music. There’s a good video about video game osts “Video game music is better than the music you like”, hades is part of it, you might want to check it out if that’s a new idea to you. But Darren’s music isn’t just exceptional in Hades, each and every single game of SGG he drops banger after banger. Of course, Ashley Barret’s angelic voice makes them an ultimate duo, which especially shines in Transistor. Secondly, character design. Oh my gods character design. In this regard, I believe they made a huge jump when making Pyre, but completely outdone themselves and anyone else when making Hades. Like mentioned in this short, all the damn characters are hot, yes, but! How should I put it… you might not share this idea, or not feel as strongly about it as I do, but you know how almost always when a character is hot it’s a bit cringe as well? because of objectivization and fanservice and stuff like that? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not necessarily averted by that, but it just screams boring character design to me, I don’t feel respect to the character from the creators. SO, ALL THAT IN MIND, Hades’ character design doesn’t have all that. Literally every single character is so hot, yet not ever I felt there was any disrespect to anyone. They are all so natural and unique, my god. And with a bit of segue to another point, World building. This is not a drill. THERE IS A THREE AND A HALF HOUR VIDEO ABOUT THE MYTHOLOGY IN HADES. A really big part of it is all the symbolism in character designs, so there is that, but also just the way it all fits in the style of Greek mythology better than anything modern I’ve ever seen. Don’t get me wrong, there are other great pieces of media that use greek mythology (Percy Jackson books for example), but nothing comes close to how authentic Hades feels whilst still managing to create their own story. It’s all explained and explored in detail in mentioned vid (it’s called just that, The mythology behind Hades), go watch if you have spare 3,5 hours, one of my favorite vids on yt ever. And also, just play the damn game, lol Honestly, the weakest part of Hades as well as other SG games is gameplay. But it’s never bad, you know? Like I really don’t remember being frustrated by gameplay or gamedesign, it’s just definitely not the most interesting thing in the world for me. Like, if we’re talking about hades, other roguelikes do it far better in gameplaying sense, don’t need to go far - tboi. But again, it’s not annoying, it’s enjoyable, it thankfully doesn’t take that much time (I have 195 hours in Hades, but I 100%ed it and was playing since early access, starting new when the game had been finished). Other games are similar in that sense - you play them to enjoy the story mostly, while being entertained by a good solid 7/10 gameplay. They have a unique-ish system of difficulty that is shared in their games, but they always implement it interestingly in the lore of the games.

You need to listen to more music.
People who exclusively listen to video game music and say it’s all better than “real music” clearly do not listen to “real music” at all. This is especially the case with Persona fans tbh lol.
waste of time, tittle didnt match
i'm a swiftie. sonic ost solos.
Pete, your entire video here was fantastic and knowing about this channel now I look forward to more... However, the last song you discuss brought back so many memories and emotion and while I understand that is the entire point you're making, it hurt so only 4 stars. The topic of game music could be discussed forever and it's always just so interesting and fascinating to me, love to hear your take in this video. Personal favourite soundtracks for storytelling reasons are probably Celeste and Super Metroid. However, for characters and exploring who they are, the entire Guilty Gear series is tremendous at it.
The skies ahead are vast and clear I hold my breath, step up the gear Feel the wind, smell the air Chances are everywhere Our sights are set beyond the moon We'll show the world what we can do Dreams are big, eyes are wide Hear the voice deep inside Obstacles are no excuse Come what may, therе's nothing to lose Turbulence won't stop us, wе'll keep pulling through Challenges life throws our way Make us even stronger today This is how we ignite Boost your spirit off the ground I'm a spark that won't go out We can go much higher now Gravity can't hold us down We're only at the beginning of this one way dream Ignite dreams to life They said we'd break, they said we'd lose But here we are, what else is new? Stronger with every fall Faster with every mile You and me, we're built on trust That's why we can always get up Even if they laugh, we'll never bite the dust Heads up high, reach for the top Give it everything that you got This is how we ignite Boost your spirit off the ground I'm a spark that won't go out We can go much higher now Gravity can't hold us down We're only at the beginning of this one way dream Ignite dreams to life Boost your spirit off the ground I'm a spark that won't go out We can go much higher now Gravity can't hold us down We're only at the beginning of this one way dream [I just saw the title and new I needed to do this, roast my tastes in the replies, I don't have any fucks to give]
