CAT 963 clears three acres of pine thicket to make new pasture
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
Making new fields with the CAT 963. This spot on the farm used to be a soybean field a very long time ago. Due to erosion from poor farming practices, they stopped using the ground for growing and let it grow up in trees. The poor fertility led to these thick virginia pines taking root. The project in this video is about removing those pines to make a future field. Key to this was creating a fi...
Discing a CRP field with the New Holland T5.115

My dad and I using the New Holland TC45 and T1.115 with the harrow to do dormant season strip discing in an old pasture. Dormant Season discing is a management practice helps create a diversity of species in old fields, which benefits the wildlife and soil. Hope you enjoy and please like and subscribe to follow our farm's progress!

    Like the video , but why not go stait . Ok your making trails for the wheelers .

      Mainly because of the topography. The spur I’m building the trail on curves slightly down to the dam. You can kind of see the way it slopes from the drone footage. We’re in the foothills of North Carolina so straight roads aren’t too common. Building the road so I can get our bigger New Holland tractor up there to start working the clearings I’ve made.

    How not !!! to knock trees down . see Lets dig 18 and learn how to.

      Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback. Letdig18 mainly uses an excavator so he’s going to take down trees differently and going to be able to dig out bigger trees. I try not to use the track loader for anything larger than 4-5 inches. Most of my clearings and roads are in early forest stands and it’s primarily thick saplings or smaller trees. I do an initial pass just to get most of the vegetation out, leaving a few root stobs along the way. If I try and get it all in one go, all of the vegetation will just bind together and be pretty unwieldy. After I get most of the trees out of the way, I’ll pass again and dig up the roots that remained. Then I come through and do a rough grade at the end. Certainly not the most skilled operator but that’s my technique and the trees get cleared and I don’t break any windows.

    Hope everyone enjoys the video! This was a shorter project out on the farm. My goal was to build a wider road that goes to the back ridge of the farm. My boundary road from a previous video goes back there also, but is a much longer path to take equipment on. This one cuts down the distance. Hopefully I can get around to getting the big tractor and plow back there to start working the soil on my clearings!

      It’s just a 963. 1993 model. I think it’s before they started the B series. It’s a great machine

      @@groundhogland Pretty straight for being 1993. Makes a big difference having the motor behind the cab, them old crawlers had the motor in the front, very tippy.

    What line blew out?

    • @groundhogland
      @groundhogland Год назад

      It was the left side line that goes into the hydraulic drive motor. It’s an older machine and that line just got a little brittle and cracked enough to start leaking.

    Please like and subscribe! This was a tough road to cut into the landscape. This part of our land has multiple steep draws, gulleys, and streams. Some of the original slopes were around 35-45% prior to cutting the road. The road has two culvert crossings over streams. Next phase of this project is a little clean-up of downed debris and a final grade with the dozer. After that we can lay gravel and make this trail a road!
