My name is Dr. Jacob Santhouse and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
I live in Florida with my family and I run a small counseling practice (Olive Counseling LLC).
Putting things in boxes usually just illustrates that most things don't fit well in boxes. This channel is no exception. I'm passionate about mental health and I love learning. My best guess is that this channel is an outlet for those two things. The main goal is to find space to have conversation and grow.
Notice: Watching videos about mental health and related topics is NOT a substitute for going to get professional help.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you are, or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call a local emergency telephone number or go immediately to the nearest emergency room.

What type of counseling practice should you work for?
I'm one of them. When i got my dyslexia diagnosis the therapist recommended me to check with a specialized audiologist because she noticed some issues related to processing. Went, did a long test during a few days and the audiologist confirmed that I have APD as well. I did not know If i was autistic or any other thing but mostly these 2 things explains most of my struggles since I was a kid.
Yes, my counselor yelled at me so I left. Later she told my new one I made up things about her after I reported her.
Wow !! That video is really amazing , im a psychology student, and i was asked to criticize an ethical code and this point came across saying that a therapist should dress professionally and it made me wonder , so glad that ive found ur video
Adhd dyslexic or neurodivergent only. I'm a analytical psychotherapist and no one understood me. I'm 66yo and went into psychology to understand myself. Know thyself and perceive the world. This and religious trauma.
Yes. This happens all the time and it's so stressful. Thank god for modern apps.
I do this all the time 😅 Fellow Dyslexic
Im dyslexic to ir adhd idk
ADHD is when you’re like really hyper and your brain can’t rest, kind of thing, Dyslexia is when it hard to read and that kind of stuff
@@Louise_2029 am dyslexic
I'm now convinced I'm dyslexic.
My ex will say that this is bs jaja XD i'm so traumatized
Thanks 🤩
A in science, A in History, F in English, it was fun.
Good Job
I always say what so i have been researching thank you for this
I love your context! I was dx’d with dyslexia when I was 6yo and was able to mask/cope for many years past my post-doctorate studies. After having long covid I feel like I have relapsed and struggle more today than before. Do you have any recommendations for help? Like a type of practitioner?
I have dyslexia and never tell anyone they treat you like your stupid
Sadly, I have to agree!
I too have dyslexia. I do sadly have to agree with you. 😭 My colleagues looked at me as if I was someone to pity! I am not stupid, I just find language to be a bit difficult to comprehend at times.
@MrSting21 I know so I just blame mine on typing to fast. Lol
All fingers down and I’m PROUD!!!❤️❤️❤️
i have all these
I drink 2 gallons everyday I am a body builder and construction worker
At the end of the day I'm not going to be hanging around with any emotional cripple thank you very much😅
Honestly you just have to be prepared to listen
Very insightful
Ive got adhd and i think dislexia but i was at math and i had to read aloud the chapter to my math toutor and i read it like 5 times and still skipped half of the words and it didnt make sense but i can read in my head just about fine
Thank you for this! I just had to turn in 2 months of pay stubs from last year 3/2023 and 4/2023. It took 4 emails to get it right. And my degree is above a clinical doctorate. Boi does $H!+ like that make me feel stressed!
The struggle is real!
Two step authentication is the bane of my existence!
Also I usually pick the 1st thing on the menu that I can pronounce
I'm a factory worker who puts up boxes, I sometimes put them in the wrong location, and I cant remember were I put them. I try very hard not to make mistakes... and I didn't want anyone at work to know about my issue. It's very stressful when you feel like you can't do anything right.
I usually read whatever I write out loud a couple of times so I can hear if it sounds right before sending it.
thanku so much sir for telling us about it❤😊
Yoo I thought You were Harry Kane for a sec lol
Sucks to suck
Idk tbh im not dyslexic but im slower at reading menus than my dad and siblings who all (exept brother) have severe dyslexia
I tend to avoid restaurants for that reason alone I read very slowly and due to that I tend to order stuff that basically every place would have (a simple burger, ham and cheese pizza etc.) Because even if I am eating out with friends or family and I order last I still end up not being able to make it all the way through the menu let alone actually process what I've just read 😑 So after ordering "the basic" things I always do I end up actually reading the menu and understanding it while I eat and sometimes regretting not being able to "have seen" a different item on the menu i would've rather tried instead 😔
I dont eat beef so happily this discounts the majority of the menu, which means i normally only have 3 choices. It makes it much easier, also i just point to the menu.
went to a restaurant that had pictures for every single menu item including drinks for father's day but it was probably because the area had a lot of immigrants who don't speak the language and less consideration for different abilities.
Funnily enough I've seen more accesible menus in my backwater country, compared to other more developed ones.
I wish more restaurants would have images on their menus
wow, i had never even thought of that! thanks for sharing
I just read like the sub section then read the first 3 things... And that takes pretty much as long as everyone takes everyone else to seeminglyagically read through the whole damn menu.
The world isn't tailored to your existence, suck it up
My legally blind MIL would individally ask everyone what they were getting and decided to take one of these options. We always offered to read her the whole menu but she said she preferred it this way because she could blame us if the food wasn't good 😅
Omg this has been my experience
I’m not dyslexic and don’t read the whole thing either. I select a category and choose from that.
I don’t have dyslexia, but I really felt you with the whole loud environment and the pressure because I can be a big socially unaware at times. That’s why I always try to look up the menu and decide what I want before I even leave the house or just place a mobile order depending on the restaurant I’m going to
Thats why i like knowing what restaurant it is beforehand, so i can read the menu at home, or on the drive there.
That can be so helpful!
I very much enjoy the menus that have images- so i can just point to the image and tell the waiter thar i want that XD
Pictures can be so helpful!
That is so true, I try to hide the difficult of ordering,
Iam waiting for someone to say multiple choice tests are either Racist or sexist.
My own brain gives me whiplash sometimes, and I’m a writer! It’s a nightmare sometimes being a dyslexic person who loves reading and writing. 😩
It's just too bad that when you do do these things for your spouse that they go unnoticed. And sometimes grander gestures are all that get recognized.

I forget words all the time, but when that happens i somehow forget every single word, so i don’t have any words to substitute or describe what i was trying to say. So my brain tries to ACT OUT the word like im playing freaking charades. this happens at least once a day.
