In this video I talk about the difference between front and rear tine tillers. I also tell you some of the features tillers have and what you want to consider when buying one. And I give some practical advice on spending your hard earned money from lessons I learned the hard way.
Let's talk about Composting and gardening for beginners.

Biggest problem I can see with a front tine tiler without a reverse is getting out of roots can be a problem! Rear tine tillers just back out if you catch a tree root

I should do a video because my husband and I have differences of opinion. Years ago we had acreage and I bought a BCS rear tine and loved it. Then we didn’t use it after a few moves and now back to a place with acreage. My husband is tall and he hated it because he couldn’t turn it or basically thought it was a PITA. If you have a small area don’t get one as you do need room to turn them reverse or not. For me I loved it as it doesn’t overwork all parts of your body when breaking new ground. Ugh! That front tine is a BEAR! The BCS had a foam inside gas tank and it disintegrated and some carburetor problems and the price for a gas tank alone was over $200! I said forget it as someone wanted to get rid of it anyways😏. Then we got an off brand front tine from a friend-or were they😂. I hate that front tine as I’m the one doing the work. It’s an issue whenever we use it because we have the same crummy conversation about front vs. rear tine. Thankfully my south garden soil is to the point I don’t need to till it. The north garden is new and it still needs work. I will suffer along until I get that north garden soil in prime condition and will purchase a battery operated tiller for rare occasions I need to mix the rows up a bit. We love our battery operated mower so I can imagine a tiller will be nice as well. My advice if you want a physical workout or small garden get a front tine. If you have the room and breaking new sod, clay soil and don’t need a workout get a rear tine. I just seen a video on Toro rear tine and looks nice-no pneumatic tires to pump up, but not sure if all of them have foam inside gas tanks-that I would not get. Fancy name brands are expensive to fix like a Lexus. As we get older we don’t want to work harder and getting the soil in condition is key. A broad fork is probably all you need and the battery operated machines don’t have smelly, messy oil and gas OR carburetors. So much easier.

Long story short if you are a big man with big muscles that want to continuous workout by yourself a front tine tiller I'm not a big guy I have both tennis elbow and golfers elbow from front tine tillers spend the extra money get yourself a rear tine front time are only good in sandy soils

Thanks for this. Very good. I subscribed. I bought a front-tine Champion tiller which I am struggling to like. And I’ll find ways to like it. But I should have bought a rear tine.
