I as an individualistic Swede live in both worlds as both the individual but also the Swede, and a family member of course. I think the danger lies in the dynamics between the societal collectives when the individual wishes and needs is in conflict with the collectivistic world view which wants to force the individual to comply, OBEY, even wants to control what we think. Suppressing the natural individualistic instincts in ourselves threatens and has stifled the progress in societies, the development of civilisation itself, and even killed an unfathomable number of human beings. The Holocaust was because of the collectivistic world view. You were what group you belonged to. The Jews stopped being human beings and were seen as the big group, a threat to the German state and arian race. All identity political or collectivistic world view, just to emphasize how dangerous it is to take that collectivistic world view to its extreme. Very very few want to live in a communistic or nazi society for example. Read history. Let us learn from it and never ever return to the extreme collectivistic society again! My vote is on sticking to the Enlightenment ideas that started our civilisation with focus on freedom and reason as in the individualistic and be very very cautious indeed to include ANY of that collectivistic way to organise a society.
@@mikaellundqvist Thank you for your comment. You make some good points.

Any college major recommendation's for aspiring occupational therapists? I'm going to become an OT, I prefer to work with children but I don't want to be bound to just the schooling system so I'm gravitating towards child development.
@@zoeyrichards7720 To become an occupational therapist, major in a health science major such as biology or psychology. You can major in child development or that can be your minor. Best wishes to you!

I like how everybody has trouble explaining the difference between ethnicity and culture. All my professors do the same thing. I think nobody really knows 😂I believe it was ridiculous to come up with that definition ethnicity. It’s difficult to explain because as the person who posted the video start mentioning countries so technically, you’re mentioning nationalities .Ethnicity is culture and culture is ethnicity. Maybe they should have made ethnicity as a subcategory from culture.. I always separate both the best way I can by saying that culture is passed on through generation while ethnicity is just something you identify with. You can never be another culture, you can learn from the culture. As far as ethnicity well, you can be any ethnicity you want any given day. Ethnicity can be culture and nationality., throw race in the mix🤣
Culture is not a valid concept any more, too restrictive a definition, although something can be cultural
I love your perspective. The question I have is what is it about our society that breeds the exact opposite goals & qualities?
I thought I’m individualist. But now at 35y.o. I doubts in this idea. I feel happy helping to other people, and i’m tired making money, making success. Success is not true happiness.
great video
Hold the thin part, bigger part plays on ridges

Collectivism is valued and emphasized in the Eastern World--Asia. Individualism is valued and emphasized in the Western World--Europe, America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The studies that the APA have conducted over the last several decades show that these assumptions are not as clear-cut as most assume.
@@csfischer007 This was based on research I did. It was interesting.
@@csfischer007Yah, you're right. Most countries in Asia are collectivist, except for Mongolia and Myanmar. All the countries in the Americas are collectivist, except for America and Canada. Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Moldova. Cyprus and Romania are collectivist. England, Scotland, Eales, Isle of Man, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Lichebstein, Luxenburg, Vatican City, and Iceland are individualist.
Thank you very helpful
Keep goin I can listen to you all day ! 👌🏼 Most adults haven’t learned this let alone children.
I was raised and still am an individualist but I’m curious to find out and experience more of collectivism.
Individualism is not antithetical to collectives and is in fact predicated on the belief that the individual holds the liberty to choose and participate in the relationships within collectives they choose.
Appreciate you 🙏🏽
Yes, of course, I get it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤thank you sweetheart
My families are individualist when it comes to their own money and self interest but becomes collectivist when they problems with their lives.
Thank you mam. It was really helpful
Wow
Thanks a lot, really interesting and helped me a lot to understand it :)
Glad my video helped. Thanks for watching!
Awesome explanation
You re very helpful thank you. Do you have instagram ? Are you on there ?
I don’t have an Instagram for this channel. Thanks for asking.
do you think with a early development degree and master's, you could become a child psychologist?
Good question. Your Master’s degree should probably be in psychology or specifically, child psychology. Your bachelor’s degree can be in early childhood or related field. Good luck!
Thank you yes this helped so much
Really helpful 🤍
This helped me with my homework, tysm.
Individualism helps capitalism, negative more prone to depression. Collectivism much happier society, even when in poverty. Prime is having both. Having that community to have that connection and sense of purpose. Having some individualism on the work place and business side helps prosper
Good points for both types of views!
You're conflating individualism with atomized individualism and/or False Individualism. Individualism is not antithetical to collectives, and in fact the relationships built within collectives create the greatest benefit to the individual. This is a foundational aspect of individualism; allowing the individual the freedoms to choose their collectives. In fact, the greatest evils in history are fundamentally collectivist. They simply impart different hierarchical structures of collectives.
Does ones temperament count regardless of where he or she falls with regard to individualism or collectivism ?
Good question. Temperament does not play an initial role in these worldviews since our families and community around us shape us towards one view. However, in time, when we are exposed to different ways of thinking, temperament can play a role in how we respond and choose to think. Thanks for your question!
I have asian parents and they had more of a collectivist view. I came out as an individualist bc of intergenerational trauma and autism (sometimes people with autism tend to be more individualistic)
Thank for sharing!
For sure yeah. Neurodivergent people are less likely to be influenced by social norms.
thank you
Pleasr slow your speaking down and I will give you a thumb up 👍
Thank you Japani Aunt 👏🏻
lollllll
I was raised to be an individualist.
As one should be. Just keep in mind that the relationships you, as an individual, choose to develop and maintain, are the greatest benefit to yourself (individual).
Awesome video! Thank you for your help

wow this helped, thank you
Individualism for teens is a struggle.. Moist individualistic teens raised and more as teens are problematic and most likely to do drugs …. SORRY YOU KNOW IT IS TRUE… Look at teens in individualistic mindset, they are unhappy, sad, and lost likely get depressed compared to the collective.. THIS are facts, if you don’t believe try to observe..
I was raised as an individualist in America but I have have an internal “force” that is moving me towards collectivism. I am beginning to believe that the US may see its downfall in its individualism ideas. Can democracy exist without a collectivism mind set?
The USA is not a democracy it is a Republic. We are an individualistic country so democracy cannot work.
Be very careful. The greatest evils in this world, today and in history, are founded upon collectivism and tribalism. Not to mention, individualism is not antithetical to collectives, and is actually predicated on the belief that the individual holds the freedom to choose the collectives he wishes to associate with. Remember, the relationships that the individual chooses to foster and maintain are the greatest benefit TO the individual. In collectivism, the collective mandates your value hierarchy of collectives which removes that freedom. Lastly, don't confuse individualism with atomized individualism or False Individualism. Societal pressures, safe-guards, and social constructs are extremely important to ensuring collective cohesiveness when viewed from the individual's perspective.
