    A year ago I was torn between going to OTF and CrossFit. I decided CrossFit simply because it was 2 mins down the road from me. I like CF now that I’ve learned the technique but it took me a year to get here. CF workouts are much more intense so it was a few months before I could start coming to CF every weekday which was my goal. The Olympic lifts were and still are pretty intimidating to me and to be honest I really don’t care about being able to do them or even about how heavy I can lift. Yes strength gains are nice and I like the feeling of progress, but to me cardio a weight loss is more important. Also muscle volume and mass are negatives for me. OTF would still be fun for me and I would have probably liked it more straight away. I’ve moved recently and now I’m very far away from my CF gym and right next door to a OTF lol. I agree with the community aspect with CF. You and your coach as well as other crossfitters will get on a first name basis quickly and you may make some friends too. I’d say at least half the people in my class on any given day are all "friends” with each other in the sense of they know what they do for work, their hobbies, there reasons to get fit, inside jokes etc.

    @MyRealin - Just made some beef bone broth last night in the instant pot. Seasoned and roasted the bones for about 40 minutes, filled the instant pot to almost the max with boiling water, a few tbls of apple cider vinegar, some salt, set it on high for 2 1/2 hours and let it naturally release. It made about 12 cups of broth. It tastes pretty good - next time will add a bit more salt. Very easy.

    This is good… just need a not so complicated supplemental vitamin plan.

    • @halefitness
      @halefitness 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Great suggestion. We do have a few recommendations we make to our clients about supplements...but before we go down that rabbit hole, we always work on getting them to dial in. - Nutrition - are you eating enough protein (1g per lb of bodyweight), and fruits and vegetables (800g per day) - training - are you lifting 2-3x per week - sleep - are you sleeping 7+ hours per night - stress - is your stress a 10/10? if so, are you managing it. We look at supplements as the last thing you'd add after dialing in the 4 things above. Our favorite supplements to recommend in order are 1 - Protein powder - to help you get your grams per lb 2 - Bone broth - for bone density, skin, recovery, hydration 3 - Fish oil - same as above 4 - Magnesium - for improving sleep

    The one thing that has always scared me about cross-fit were knee injuries. I had several co-workers who were considerably younger than me (like 30 years younger) get knee injuries doing box jumps. Is this your experience? I've been going to OTF for over 4 years and have never had an injury, but cross-fit has always intrigued me...

    • @halefitness
      @halefitness 11 месяцев назад

      Great question! There's definitely a risk of injury with things like box jumps, running, rope climbs...and really anything that you do at the gym. Since we are all in our late 30's, 40's and beyond, this is a major concern for us, so we spend extra time making sure clients learn the right form before doing anything that puts them at major risk. If you can find a CrossFit gym that puts an emphasis on proper technique (for example, learning how to jump and land properly), before having you do advanced movements, it can be a great next step for you in your training.

    More food prep hacks by the coaches would be fun. Just don't do too much editing. What fun is that? It was Hale Fitness that first taught us how to meal prep and after, I don't know, 5 years, we are still doing it. The ground meat and taco seasoning is the way for me and we have simplified things even further by purchasing frozen roasted veggies and instant rice in the microwave. The big difference is we portion the meat for the meal/person. I like more protein and carbs than my wife where as she goes for more veggies and fiber.

    • @halefitness
      @halefitness 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the feedback, Michael! We are realizing that food prep is an entirely new skill for most people. Doing it right requires practice, so we will definitely post more examples!
