For me Freddie is the man! But let's not forget too what a stellar band he had and the incredible dynamic he had with them. The way they worked together was just out of this world. Blues performances at the very highest level. It doesn't get any better than this.

Freddie "Cannonball" King was just a force you could not ignore. Timing, sound and energy....simply great!

Was at Dayton’s Hara Arena the night the lights went out…to see the CDB….some kid tried to sneak in thru the roof vents and grabbed a hot wire… both hands burnt off and we were in the dark a good half hour before the band came back on stage..Charlie came up every year to see the kid and I think he helped the kid monetarily for many years…this was May of 1979 of 80….. Worked for Delta then and transferred to Orlando in ‘83….and one day in ‘85 I was walkin’ thru the concourse and I see Charlie and Tommy Crain standin’ in the middle a the hall(I was a redcoat) introduced myself asked where they were headed and Charlie says to Ft. Myers…Cattlemen’s Assoc..had hired the band for a private gig and him and Tommy was the straglers. We talked about Dayton and NYE of ‘76 when the Outlaws CDB and Marshall Tucker played Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati…and how awesome that NYE was…I put’m in First Class and told’m I was sorry I couldn’t do more(it was only a half hour flight)..Shook hands and Charlie asked “you got a card?”(business card) I said yep and gave him one…about two weeks later one of the secretaries said I had a box mailed to me in her office… I went up and got it and It had all the merch I think the band had out…With a note “Thanks Steve, it’s the little things! We appreciate ya…”signed Charlie Daniels! Charlie besides bein’ a great musician was an even better human!

I got to see this line-up of the band several times in some really small venues. Manny's Car Wash in NYC comes to mind. He is just one of the best blues guitarists ever!

At his peak! No wonder Clapton (and Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray, Etc...etc...Right down to Gary Clark) was so inspired by this man!

Saw him at Crystal Palace Garden Party 75......Stole the show.

It always wigs me out that he played with his strap over his shoulder, but not his neck. I tried it once and accidentally threw my guitar into the pool.

The king of the blues. Got better and better and better and then died. Imagine if he had been alive in the late 80s for the blues resurgence when people like BB and John Lee, Albert Collins etc became popular again.

Freddie King at his best! What a voice, those licks and technique. A great bluesman that sings from his toes. RIP Freddie, thank you for posting this.

Can you hear how Clapton mimics his voical style and his guitar style ?

I think he is hitting a high b note on vocals while playing sweet home chicago. I dont think people truly understand how amazing, effortless and gritty his vocals were! Holy Moly!!!

I saw Freddie years ago in NJ way out in the pine Barrens. He was fantastic. To this day my favorite is I'd Rather BE Blind written by Leon Russell & recorded with Leon, Freddie & Jim Gordon. They are all passed on. But ...today I am working on that very song to record for a u-tube download with The Clovis Creek Band. Thank you & God Bless you Freddie. He was truly "The Texas Cannonball".🌹🌠🎼

Incredible that this was recorded/played so late (1993, I think). Most of the great blues guitar records are from the 60's.
