MacGregor 26M cruising mods. A quick walk through our MacGregor 26M, Sailboat Sea Weasel, while sailing on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada.
i had a mac 26. bcz im single handed . i modified everthing so it could be handled from cock pit. nice boats. but too much above water in wind. bit difficult comming into enclosed morings.
Where are you hiding your dinghy while sailing, I can't make out if you're pulling it or what? Nice videos btw!
Sunshine coast of where?
Liked and subbed
Does anyone have any additional info on the T track clamp used for the BBQ? What it might be called or where to get them?
hi great info on magregor have got a link for heater cheers mate
What an horrible tub. It’s the equivalent of the Pontiac Aztek of sailing vessels.
Great overview, and super slick mods. Will be coming back to this video for reminders.
Fantastic. I have a Ericson 27 and I’m going to make your galley. Thankyou.
Wow, super smart and well-executed ideas. Congrats.
How are you safely handling the exhaust from the generator?
👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼.
That was a great little intro to Macgregor upgrades. I am thinking of one of these for my wife and I, and appreciate your views. Do you know what the largest engine you can use on it, and what the speed is for a larger motor?
Great video
Great video love the mods thanks
Amazing mods to a MacGregor. And most are In expensive Canadian Tire gear (that’s Harbor Freight in the U.S.). MacGregors are not known as great sailboats but you all are on the water and sailing. Kudos!
We're on our second sailboat, and it's our first MacGregor. This is our 6th year sailing her, and we are very happy with how she performs. We were caught in a sudden, terrible storm with gale force winds, and she kept us afloat and alive. Roger MacGregor thought of a lot of things that make this a great boat, even if he did keep it simple and affordable. I've heard the criticism of MacGregors by the sailing community, but I can't tell you how many people stop by to tell us what a beauty she is wherever we go, and she sails fine enough for us.
The Mac 25 made the sailboat hall of fame
And um
New subscriber here, I have watched all your videos on the McGregor and have enjoyed it immensely. My dream is to get a McGregor myself someday, but I will have very different views as in love in SW Louisiana here in the states..I heard you mention other trips at the the end of this video, but haven't seen any videos yet. I understand this footage was 5 years ago but do y'all still own your McGregor, if so do you still do trips in it? Thank you so much.
Great mods! Thanks for sharing. Really wish that McGregor made a 35 w/the same draft & features as the 26.
Sir i read that you sold the Boat, but one Question if you still have the Info. How fast was it with 90hp? Thats a lot of horses under the hood.
Sweet mods!
Cool video and cool mods! Do you know if the 90hp motor is quieter than the 50hp? Also do you find the 90 overkill or glad to have?
I desire buy One. From Europe. Thanks
hello, i like your boat, where can i get one of these macgregor?
Loving your stern anchor reel.Is it a hose reel as I’d like one for my boat open sided like yours…….great blogs by the way
For cockpit reefing ideas check captain scarlegs boat tour on Haphazard. At 3:30 ruclips.net/video/boAcOITE5Ss/видео.html
Can I ask the modle number of your heater?
There was another RUclips channel that modified their boat the 26x to extremes, this guy modified it with like autopilot, chart plotter, clutches and more winches,
New subscriber like the relaxed info I get off this about the Macgregor oh yes you guys are nice too
Would have been cool to see how some of the mods were done you were lucky to buy it nodded already
I can't believe the transom hasn't broke with that 90hp sweet 26er tho
no new videos? still got it?
I'm interested in the setup for your grill. I have the same T-track and wanted to find the connector (where to purchase) to mount my grill in the same manner. Thanks for sharing.
i thought macs slept 6-8?
Great video! I really liked the heater you have installed at the v-berth. What kind of heater ist it, brand/model...? Thanks for sharing!
One of the coolest dogs I´ve ever seen... does he actually move sometimes? ;-)
Just found your RUclips site: what happened?!?!? Great videos! Where ever you two are, I hope life is grand and your still traveling!
Why use a dingy? Can't you beach the MacGregor 26?
thanks
For me, this is a daysailer, for me, this is so cluttered it would drive me mad I had one for 10 years great boat to sail used it for offshore races and would win the single-handed cup each to their own I was lucky to have a Moody 44 for more deep water sailing
Curious with the helm so aft and the headsail winches atop the cabin, how do you manage to work the sheets through a tack? They seem so far away.
Cool :)
Just incase you are still paying attention to this thread.. I'm looking at this boat for sailing the keys and some use in the bahamas. Would you be comfortable taking your boat to the keys and the Bahamas?
Awesome!!! IG?
Seeing you’ve sold Sea Weasel are you still sailing and living aboard in a different sailboat? Whilst there are quite a few sailing channels so there is multiple channels of other topics. Your a very likeable couple of which many of us would like to see more of . Please give us an update 👍
Thanks for your comments. We sold the macgregor and bought a Catalina 36 we sailed it the last two summers full time .We completed a circumnavigation of Vancouver island then sold the boat at the end of our trip. We recently just got back from sailing in Mexico for the last month and a half so we have still been sailing lots . We’re going to start looking for another boat probably next winter. Cheers Steve and Ally.
@@sailingthefreelife that really is great news to hear you’ve still been enjoying the sailing life. Hopefully you’ll jump back in front of the camera with a new boat in the near future. Thank you for taking the time for an update, all the best 👍❤️🇬🇧
Thank you very much for the upgrade information. As an inexperienced sailor I have often thought that the MacGregor would be a good boat to start with. I have had power boats most of my adult life. But now that I am retired something that uses wind for the main power I like better. I do think solar panels with electric drive would be really nice. Btw is there a black water tank on board? How many gallons. So where were you tied off during your filming? When you mentioned the heater plus the surroundings it looked Pacific Northwest. Thanks
Great job
Excellent info..very informative..salute.
Hey guys. Just a question. Do you know where exactly you got your dinghy? Maybe a link? Can’t seem to find any for the price point you guys mention here
We got it off eBay. But that was years ago so I’m not sure that anything like that would still be available. It was a hydroforce or something like that if I remember right.
Thank you for the tour you guys. Some great modifications for the MacGregor 26.
Our mac26x has never seen us on it for more than 3 days ( due to limitations on supplies and power )but the previous owner installed a plug on the back for shore power and a permanent back mount for the Bimini (where I would have a removable mount for solar panels ) , recently I saw some collapsable solar panels that you can buy a electric “generator “ with different models for different capacities called the “jackery”, and though about buying a smaller one for our Mac just to let us stay out on the water for more extended amounts of time .
