Project Coombs - Initial Teardown Bonus Footage
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.2 года назад
When we launched Episode 3 in the series, we heard from some of our subscribers that they wanted to see more of the raw teardown of the car that we teased in the main feature. So here it is, some unedited footage of Bryan and Eddie removing much of the interior as well as the Webasto sunroof from our 1961 Jaguar Mk II project. We apologize for the noise in the background, as one of our team was...
Project Coombs - 1961 Jaguar Mk 2 Sedan Restoration Project: Episode 3
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
In this episode, we dig into the teardown process a bit further and continue to assess the Jag for potential issues while bagging and tagging all the take-off parts. We start by stripping the exterior trim completely, beginning with the Webasto cloth sunroof. Upon further examination, it's in better shape than we expected. All of the chrome comes off next, leaving the question of whether to re-...
Perkasie Open House 2022

On May 14, 2022 we hosted the annual spring open house at our Perkasie Works. The threat of heavy rain put a damper on the number of exceptional vehicles that normally line 4th Street in front of the shop for this event. Nevertheless, we had a great turnout of familiar faces and new ones alike.

wow its 4 wheel vehicle not 2 wheel vehicle
Compliments for the clear approach with background information for your decisions 👏🏻
Master
Reverse engineering, I love it, never seen it done this way before, but that gives you a perfect template
When one sees a craftsman work it always looks easy, but it is not. This effort on the Jag demonstrates such an effort...thank you for sharing one of your skills!
@@RJ-nh9hw your comment has truly touched our shop. We Appreciate the support.
This amount of craftsmanship is not in any book. Some young guys interested in restoration need to be shadowing this gentleman like crazy. As someone that is currently trying to learn my way through restoring an old Volkswagen and fixing sheet metal, I wish I had a quarter of this guys knowledge. Amazing sheet metal template idea!
I wish I had known to ask about process when getting a car repainted recently.
Great to see the MK2 again!! More please!
De beaux souvenirs
Guess the channel and video's have stopped? It has been a year since this video was uploaded. I am sad to see things like this since I am buying a 1960 Jaguar Mk2 and this build would help a ton. Hope you start posting more.
I watched these video a year ago all 4 of them, what's happened to the car are you still working on it or have you scrapped it?
Beauty
Powder coat the exhaust manifolds? I don't think so !
What happened to this car?
It’s been over a year with no update. !!
Did you ever finish the project?
You have to love a coombes tricked up Jag, my Grandfather had an e type version which was great until he hit a barrier in it.
Good stuff looking forward to the project going forward... That engine looks really nice...
Why did you start to film a project and then abandon your viewers? Disappointing is the politest word to describe this.
Any more episodes please!
Hoping for a followup on this and other activities at R&R...!
Wow, a Packard in the background. Not what I was expecting
where are you? can you suggest someone who can refinish a set of MK2 veneer interior wood? i’m in baton rouge, louisiana. thx
I think you boys need to be very careful bandying the "Coombs" attribution anywhere near that car because it`s simply not and never will be, "Period upgraded" at best.
Hi , very interested in episode 4please!
Great to see you undertaking this huge project. It will take some time to be sure, but its awesome that you can put a team of mechanics on the various tasks. There will be challenges ahead, as you know. Thanks for putting this up on RUclips !
Its great to see this car being restored to a second life, My father owned a 1963 Mk2, 3.8 Jag even now all these years on i think what a motor, It was a year old when he bought it, and he let me drive it as a 14 year old. WOW ! best regards Sisaket Thailand.
Coombs should be pronounced "combs." John Coombs modified a handful of Mark 2s in the sixties, no more. Some had modified rear wheel arches, with a piece of copper or brass tubing installed in the channel for the spat weatherstrip. The tubing was lead-loaded and painted body color. These cars did not have detachable spats. So-called "Coombs" spats are indeed narrower than the original factory ones but these are a latter-day invention, not used by any of the original Coombs-modified cars. A genuine Coombs Mark 2 is worth a fortune today but they are exceedingly rare. There are many so-called "Coombs spec" cars around today but these often bear little resemblance to the ones actually modified by the Coombs shop back in the sixties. Please do a whole lot more of these & more regularly, they're very interesting.
'All synchromesh on all 4'!! Judging by the gear knob the gearbox is a Moss so it has a straight cut no synchromesh1st and reverse gear! Do your research! I'm so fed up of so called Jaguar experts in the USA that know nothing about Jags! 😂
Let's not forget that some Mk2s came with the baby 2.4 liter 6. I have a 68 Mk2 240. The joys of right-hand drive and left-hand shift :)
A 61 jag mk 2 had a moss box crash 1st gear not syncro
Can't wait to see how this project progresses as I mentioned before I am rebuilding my own MKII on my channel (jagvette1)
Good episode guys, nice to have a description of what you've done. I think it would be better however, to have been able to watch some of that work taking place. Stripping the car is perhaps a bit boring I agree, but I do hope future episodes will take that format. I realise this would mean more editing work, but it would be more interesting and generate longer episodes. Keep up the good work, I've been looking forward this episode for ages, and now I'm looking forward to the next one.
61 did not have a 4 speed syncro, that was later that one had a non syscro on first I believe. It had a 4 speed Moss box, no syncro on first. Obviously you know the cam covers should not be black.
Just purchased a mk2 will be watching everything from a to z. Thanks 😊
keep the steelies! wires are OTT these days. ...too reminicent of those atrocious looking mid 80's wannabe chrysler wire hubcabs. boo!
Glad to be one of your early subscribers. My Dad had a 59 Mk2 in the Dove Gray, when I was born in 63. It's still a beautiful car.
Interesting project! I'm pretty sure Jaguar also offered a 2.5 Litre variant of the MK2.
2.4, 3.4 & 3.8, although the 2.4 was a bit of a poverty special. It looked almost identical to the others but didn't have leather and was a bit slow in comparison.
This is a very late response to your comment. Jaguar used its Daimler marque to power the Mk2 body with a 2.5 V8. It's a very fine motor and the car has the usual Daimler interior refinements. I like the look of this project, but the videos seem slow in coming.
Hi Guys... Looking forward to this project. something needs to be done to those door mirrors. The racing jags had the bullet type...GN
I’ve got a ‘63 Mark 2 that’s completely restored so I’ll be interested to watch this and see any differences.
Looking forward to the progress!
Great show. Wonderful quality in presentation.
keep these coming! looking forward to seeing how this project progresses
Not 'High compression cylinder heads' mate, The heads were standard 'B' Type, And straight port on the later 340/240's, It was the pistons that determined the compression ratio, 7:1, 8:1 (Standard) and 9:1, I should know as i've owned 7 MK2's and i know me onions! 😂Cheers.
Nice one Scotty...GN
Eye watering information
Excellent! Really looking forward to watching your progress guys. Please, don't spare any of the details and make sure you show us everything you do. Subscribed in anticipation of the next episode.
Great project. I have a ‘61 Mk 2 and I’ll be watching your progress. Best of luck!
This is going to be an exciting project. Great to see a Ragtops channel!
Its a pity the now retired owner of Ragtops and Pollock for years couldn't grasp that restoration essentially is best applied by doing show standard work.
Quite an impressive array of classics! Good luck.
Superbly done indeed, as is the new-look webpage too! Best of luck!
