Clive dying in the end is consistent with his theme and character arc, which is about dedication and love for humanity. He was literally the shield of that world. Joshua Rosfield was clearly healed and wrote the book, Tomes actually says that Joshua is a great writer and should be one after his adventures. Both Cid and Clive are heroes who sacrificed for humanity, in a way, Clive follows Cids footsteps.

And it's only now, with this close-up... that I was able to see G'raha's ears twitch slightly before he took a bite. ❤

I played the whole ultima fight with tears streaming down my face bc of joshua, he was the character I most cared about TT but I appreciate the ending much more now knowing its possible he (clive, and dion) survived and that's the way I'll view it haha

what im seeing here is clive used the pheonix on joshua to revive him then used all his power to save the world, thus causing Clive to turn to stone. Thus Joshua survived but Clive was basically the sacrifice.
