the warp is a dimension shaped by thought. every being impinges on the warp and partially exists there on a psychic level, being influenced by it and also influencing it, creating its form and substance. When the universe had no sentient beings, and was just empty or animals, it had a balance. but sentient entities have dark sides that tend to dominate their consciousness, and so the warp reflects that, and given enough of this input, coalesced into dark gods of chaos, actual beings shaped from the amalgamated fears, hatred, jealousies, avarice and other dark emotions of all sentient beings. Sure there are good parts of the psyche, but (and especially in grim dark 40k), the dark side dominates.

Hi all so just a few modifications your average six year old boy gets in order to become a space marine Firstly they’re selected from about a thousand aspirants who in turn would be checked for any and all mutations even on a molecular level, those who pass the initial screening would then be given a third lung which can be used to filter toxic air, a secondary heart which is meant to increase blood circulation as well as a backup in case their primary heart exploded or something, they’re given neurological glands which ultimately reduces the amount of pain a marine can feel, which Is why a marine can have half his body missing, one arm blown off and half his head missing and yet is still combat effective, granted yes the marine will eventually die but that usually can take hours if not more depending on the severity of the damage all the while the marine is still capable of wielding a bolter single handedly all the while feeling mildly uncomfortable despite their injuries which is again why space marines can be more or less fired from orbit and dropped via a drop pod onto their enemies heads with little to no real effects whatever, other enhancements are their improved eyesight as well as their hearing combined with their power armor makes even a standard marine incredibly durable SOB’s, being functionally immortal although they do age the oldest space marine ever recorded was about ten thousand years old, meaning that even if a marine doest outright kill you, he’s more likely to outlive you, not to mention that their glands can be manipulated to allow them to effectively shut of half their brains allowing them to do a sort of half sleep, half away sort of thing like sharks or whales, this allows a Marine to be combat active for a month or two without the need to sleep, as for food due to their highly acidic saliva it helps them to eat the most hardiest of organic materials from the toughest part of a Zerg warrior to the even the Protoss themselves even their metal components can be considered edible to a space marine which allows them to either escape captivity or gain access by simply spitting on a surface or even as a weapon where they would spit at their enemies as their face starts to melt and again…. That’s just some of the augmentations of the average marine, without their armor, which if they were wearing is even more terrifying, especially considering that their armor has an automatic soft targeting system built into their guns which directly links to a marines armor which can be the equivalent of an aim bot, that being said unlike your typical aim bot which bounces all over the place and is impossible to unlock without looking away from your opponents, a space marines aim bot can be overridden by physically imputing their own actions into the armor, along with an auto threat analysis system much like in call of duty where if there’s an enemy behind you the armor will warn you where that attack will come from, not to mention that the armor is also equipped with a built In thermal imaging system, echo location as well a a heartbeat sensor which can be boosted via an auspex scanner for more accurate readings. As for weapons they’d primary weapons are the humble Godwin pattern bolter which is being replaced by the Cawl pattern bolter rifle which is more accurate and more powerful than the older patterns with the stopping power of an automatic elephant gun firing the equivalent of 700 nitro express which also explodes, as well as being turbo charged and armor penetrating. Plasma guns which fires big globs of liquid plasma which explodes more often than being useful thus frequently killing its users more often than not and being assigned a plasma gun is the equivalent of a summery execution. Lascannon Grav cannon Meltas which is essentially a weaponized blowtorch meant for piercing the armor of tanks or medium sized vehicles. Power blades which are as sharp as a single molecule which also comes with a distribution field which can tear apart the molecular bonds of a given substance allowing it to cut through pretty much anything and everything as long as it has a physical presence. The Imperium has outlawed thinking machines, and that can, depending on the interpretation and how sophisticated it is, also include the automation of doors. There are doors that have simple keypads or work purely mechanical (oldschool keys and all), but as soon as you have security doors that have to assess if someone is allowed to go though, you run into that issue. Sure, you can hook up everything to a central cogitator (that has at least one human as a component somewhere), but if that door has to operate even when that connection is unavailable, you can also just hook up a servitor to that specific door. That's not even the most f-ed up. The Space Marines have an AA missile tank that fires missiles with an internal guidance system that includes the remains of a chapter serf.

the idea of the sea is just a metaphor and cant be relied on. It describes a spatial state that isn't space. There are no markers or guides in the Warp. the only guide is the Emperor's beacon. So like time is a suggestion, so is space and if your not too careful, you find yourself in the wrong place.

The theory i go with is the old ones became the masters of bio engineering that they were because of a galaxy spanning plague that led to their reverence for life but also created gramps nurgle. All was peaceful with gramps just enjoying sitting on his rocking chair enjoying his garden. Then the war in heaven happened with entire races being forcfully changed by the old ones to create more and more soldiers for the war and the metric solar systems of blood unleashed as weapons capable of nuking star systems off the map were thrown all over the place eventually led to the birth of khorne and tzeentch. Gramps gets annoyed by the two brothers fighting all over his lawn and just unleashes the enslaver plague causing the necrons to nope themselves to bed.

12:00 in older lore it was explained that Before that, the Warp was a calm sea of Energy , where the psychic energy of living things and Primordial concepts, would gather. On Earth the first Shamans of Men's tribes, who where the first born Psykers of humanity, would actually go through the re-incarnation cycle of the Warp. Souls would enter the warp upon death, be cleansed of their old lives, then be reincarnated. So those shamans would go through the cycle,but sicne they where powerful psykers, they would retain their past lives memories, and they would lead human tribes through the ages. But when the warp became more and more of an issue, the cycle of reincarnation ebcame more and more hazardous and dagnerous, wile occasionaly a soul could be snatched by a Warp Predator, here dozens of Shamans would not reincarnate, their souls lost into the tumultuous waves of the warp or devoured by malevolent creatures. Seeing the writting on the Walls, the shamans all gathered and decided that Humanity was not ready to face of the powers of the Warp that where growing, and they could Not risk themselves in the cycle of Reincarnation anymore, but they had still simple mortal bodies. So they came up with a plan, they made a Mass ritualistic Suicide ceremony, where they would all die at the same time togheter, all pass into the Warp and there fusion their souls as one. Then the would reincarnate. And that is How the Emperor of Mankind was born, with the collective power and knowledge of ALL the Shamans, making him one of the Most Powerfull Psykers of the galaxy. He went secretly through the ages, guiding Humanity, giving advice or giving an helping hand when neccesary so that Humanity would grow in a specific direction, the Only path accoridng to him, that would allow Humanity to survive the ordeal to come and become oen of the Powers of the galaxy. Wich canonicly also means that the Emperor of Mankind is actually lactose intolerant, since the Mutation for this as appeared only like 15-20.000 BC, and Big E (the Emperor) was born BEFORE.

@FBJ TV - funny note... STARCRAFT is from Warhammer 40k inspired. Back then Starcraft should be a Warhammer Game but it went into their own vision.

its not clear how big the realm of chaos is - because CHAOS has no rules. this is correct especially for the realm of chaos. I would expect it is just a tiny part but the gods have more influence in the whole warp not just in the realm of chaos.

We know of only 2 people who could sit on the Throne (besides Big E) and not die instantly: Magnus, whom the Emperor intended to sit on the Throne at the end of the webway project (maybe temporarily), and the other was Malcador the Sigillite (also known as Malcador The Hero), the Imperial Regent and perhaps the Emperor's one and only friend. He eventually died while sitting on the Throne, but that allowed Big E to stand up and face Horus head on in the last moments of the heresy. There may be other powerful psykers, but we know of those 2 for certain.

Alpharius and Omegon are a weird primarch technically they are a single person with two separate bodies and consciousnesses due to a person from humanity’s perspective is based off of the soul. Both Alpharius and Omegon have a half of the same soul so separated they’re kind of half a primarch but when working together they are Alpharius Omegon the primarch of 20th legion just split into two bodies.

of course they say earth and call it terrans in game, they were to lazy to change the name for them as well, since the first starcraft was ment to be a warhammer game ^^ gamesworkshop missed a chance back there allready and a 10 foot high guy which is the most powerfull psycher the humans ever saw and even the eldar farseer say he is powerfull, of course he can just eridacte the memories of the people around him, make him unseen etc. the important question why the fuck did he wait so long to show himself

A fun and easy way of getting into Warhammer is through If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device. It's an affectionate parody of the setting, but it respects the canon.

The warp is ruled by chaos in the same way that the imperium rules the galaxy. Places of any sort of value will almost certainly be under the control of Chaos(98%) or some other warp entities of generally nebulous alignment and if you stay in any one place too long your bound to be noticed by something or happened upon by roving bands of daemons or chaos marines. Within the warp powerful beings carve out 'locations' that they impose their will on to give it concrete form such as Nurgles garden however for the most part the warp is just kind of there existing. Don't mistake the warp itself for malevolent it's just that because there are so many trillions of living and dead souls experiencing negative emotions in quantities so utterly massive that any neutrality the warp itself has has mostly been wiped away and corrupted by the chaos gods who grow strong on said negative emotions.

Regarding stuff resembling StarCraft: StarCraft was supposed to be a Warhammer game. Blizzard just changed their homework so the copying wasn't illegal

The sea analogy for the warp doesn't really work, its very reductive. It is rather the metaphysical to our physical. Thoughts, dreams, feelings, actions etc in our reality echoes within the warp and becomes real there. Using a better anaolgy: if the warp was a galaxy the realm of Chaos would be nebulae.

did you not know that before any craft game. Sony and GW were working on a 40k game. that fell apart then Sony took the idea and created both warcraft and starcraft. that is why GW is so IP centric now.

One can wonder what would have happened to Warhammer (Games Workshop as a whole tbh) had they accepted to license their IP to Blizzard when they wanted to create what then became Warcraft and Starcraft. I also still don't know why "now" Warhammer is having an increased popularity, for decades it was a relatively niche hobby, despite also trying in the early 2000s to branch into other media, books, videogames, etc...

Re: The number of Legions - there were 20 Primarchs, two of them were memory-holed (the 2nd & 11th); not much is known about why, but they are just gone, removed from the records & many of the Primarchs weren't happy about what happened, but even they can't speak their names, when this was happening Horus challenged Malcador (the Sigilite, who was the one to sit on the Golden Throne for the Emperor, as he's the 3rd most powerful human psyker in the setting) over it & Malcador basically force-chokes him to his knees nearly killing him. Also Re: the twins, yes they only count as one. As for knowing more, about the Emperor's origins or anything else, mystery can be a good thing as it leaves things open to interpretation & theorising by the fans. Explain too much and some of the joy is lost. As others have said, the Emperor's size isn't that much of a problem as he's been shown to manipulate how he is perceived & can also seemingly alter his actual size with his vast psychic might.

The Thunder warriors were the first super soldiers of the Emperor and in fact they were overall even stronger then the current space marines are. However that added strenght came at a cost of being near useless for anything other then fighting wars. So for the Emperors first stages of taking out all the warlords and unify Terra the Thunder warriors were perfect. However after that point when Terra was unified and the Thunder warriors ability to safetly deal with long times of no fighting were zero they became nothing more then a liability becouse of there extreme tendense to violance. So for the Emperors next stage to work he needed a mutch more stable type of soldier that could not only fight but also handle diplomacy without straight up killing who ever they talked to. The end result of that was the creation of the Space marine that we know today. 30:20 That would be Malcador the Sigilite or as he shall forever now be know as from the words of the Emperor himself, Malcador the Hero. Next to the Emperor he was probadly the most powerful psyker among humanity and the Emperors most trusted adviser and right hand man. Malcador was still just barelly able to endure the psychic strain on hes body while sitting on that throne. In fact when they later removed him and placed the Emperor there again hes entire body pretty mutch crumbled to dust as the Emperor gave this quote. "Behold the greatest sacrifice of our age! Malcador is Sigillite no more. Henceforth he shall always and only ever be Malcador the Hero!"

The Warp is practicly a parallel dimension to our own reality. Emotions are echoing there. But while the Necrontyr and the Old Ones battled, there weren't enough intelligent beings to feed those emotions. The Warp was like a calm sea. A few waves here and there, but nothing to worry about. The Chaosgods weren't existing at that point of time.

There is a fan/conspiracy theory around that says Starcraft was originally going to be a 40k game but Blizzard and GW had disagreements. Hence why the Terrans looks so much lik Space Marines and the similarites with the Protoss and Aeldari.

Bricky got some of it wrong. Cybernetic Revolt ends and then The Age of Strife started by the Warpstorms which is the Eldars debauchery's side effect. This continues few thousand years, The Emperor starts the Unification Wars on Terra. After Terra's unification Slaanesh is born and that clears the Warpstorms. Clearing of the Warpstorms is the start of the Great Crusade. Bricky really did Malcador dirty by just brushing as "someone else taking control of the Throne". Malcador he was The Emperor's best friend that knew everything about him and acted as Regent in his absence and "Uncle" of the Primarchs. He was the man who had his explicit trust. Pretty sure he was the one who convinced The Emperor to become The Emperor. Malcador was also the 3rd strongest psyker of the Imperium. Magnus was supposed to be the contingency plan so Malcador wouldn't have to control the Throne in The Emperor's absence. The Emperor uses his psychic powers to alter peoples perception of him. For example all the "fan art" you see is the artist's perception of the Emperor, pretty meta. If you read enough Warhammer 40k books you notice how the Emperor talks and behaves as the person he is speaking to him would expect of him. Like their ideal version of him. The Emperor is a plot device and he should, in my opinion, stay mysterious and unknown.

Warp is the immaterial realm, its not clear if chaos existed before the war in heaven as a smaller portion of the warp but it was either created or empowered by the war in heaven. When the general vibe shift of the galaxy was awful. As to how it exists within the immaterium, in the modern setting its pretty much all of it which is touched by chaos and it isnt a specific place as the regular rules of space and time dont exist there, it can be everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

Regarding the Emperor's size, he (and Magnus, one of his sons) can alter other peoples' perceptions of him. Alternatively, his control over the Warp enables him to physically change his size, along with his armour and gear.
