I use leverevoluation and it works great. I haven’t tried it in a bolt gun yet.
@@drdes9609 it’s a great powder for the Grendel for sure.
Ive been shooting .264 LBC chambering of the grendle. I use Black Hole barrels. Try using benchmark. My grendle loves 32 grains of benchmark and nosler 120s. Try benchmark.
H110 ?
25.5gr of H110 would theoretically hit about the same pressure and get a complete burn, but at only 78% case fill. H110 is squirrely when its not packed in pretty full. I wouldn't try it for fear of a flashover situation which could be really dangerous with a powder that fast. There's also zero tested data that I'm aware of with it in PPC-class cases at all which would make me even more hesitant to try it.
@TheOutdoorGeneralist I had a encore barrel in 300 win once someone else had cut it off at 16.25 inch One load was 40/64 with cotton over the powder, then I found trail boss. Fill up to the nick and shoot, no filler needed I didn't think anyone would want to go full house load in that one
The Grendel is without a doubt my favorite cartridge I have two bolt guns a heavy bbl CZ 527 and a Howa mini walnut hunter, both shoot best with TAC .
Are these in current production? I've been hoarding a box I found at a gun show years ago because I thought they'd never be seen again.I also shoot a Howa mini 6.5 Grendel.Last time I loaded them I used H335 I don't remember how fast they went but I believe it was close to 3000. I was probably pushing it though.
@@william16845 I don’t think so. Closest thing I can find online is the 100gr variant.
Have the same rifle. Have you tried the 100 gr ELD-VT? No load data from Hornady in either gas or bolt. Requests have fallen upon deaf ears. Have used Hodgdons data - meh velocity. Nice video.
@@runningwithscissors3997 I haven’t, but I’d like to! I believe they are loading it in factory Grendel ammo so I’d guess it’ll be in the next volume of their load manual. But most likely it’ll just fall into the same data as their other 90-100gr bullets.
@ I was hoping they would update the app - and they did for Creedmoor only. Welp, there's always Sierra - they did publish 120 grain TGK in bolt. Been a good baseline to work off of in 120s. They should have adequate bolt gun data in their next update too.
I found and bought a good quantity of old Norma 77g bullets. Worked up a load and have t had a chance @ small game yet but it's ready!
G'day from Australia mate. I shoot the same gun in a MDT Oryx chassis. I've got 90gr Speer TNT's in Starline brass with CCI 400 primers in front of 31.5gr of ADI Benchmark 2 ( Which is Hodgdon Benchmark) at 2890fps with no pressure signs. I could probably push it a bit more but it's a good node and shoots lights out. Great content mate, I enjoyed it immensely.👍
@@catherinefarr3140 nice! Thats a powder I need to pick up sometime. Thanks for watching!
6.5 Grendel = Awesomeness 👍🏻

does the A17 ammo work in a 17HMR semi auto rifle with out jamming?
I made one the other day. Used 1/2” electrical conduit. Five foot piece for $4.23. Not smooth as silk inside that’s for sure. I smoothed out the exit hole and a burr that was a little recessed inside it. Looks like it’s been welded, soldered, or ???.. formed together. I’m a smooth piece of copper would be a lot slicker inside, but not going to be anywhere as rigid. I would guess a copper pipe that’s 5 feet long or longer is gonna bend real easy. Anyways, I did some research and it sounds like the inside of my tube is .662” i’m wondering how the .625” cold steel darts would fit in it? I’m sure someone has tried them in a 1/2” piece of metal conduit. Good video. I also made one out of 1/2” PVC pipe. The internal diameter is about a 1/8” to a 1/4” larger inside diameter.
Sorry got to the 12 min mark. Looks like they work
@@tripplebeards3427 I’ve used the copper tube, and you’re exactly right. Smoother but easily bent. I’ve used the Cold Steel darts with conduit and they work after sanding the cones down a bit.
I added Cajun Gun works trigger package to a great gun to a stellar one .. love the P07
@@frankcharlonis2650 I should have done that. Sold it instead though…had too many handguns I liked better to justify keeping it around.

Never experienced the split neck issue with my Savage and I’ve had mine for over 10 years. I’ve shot all the ammo that he’s shooting except for the A17 ammo.

Thought i would check in with u. On the 280AI load development. Did u do anymore work up with yours? I have the same rifle has your's. But mine is the long range model. I had to put everything on hold on mine. I had to have neck surgery last week. Wondering what powder and bullet u went with? I live on the Arkansas/Missouri state line.
@@ozark_trapper Barnes 145 LRX with H4831sc is what I’ve been using. I haven’t worked much more with it, though I will be once the weather warms up,
Except for the strait wall cartridges restricted by hunting laws. I can't understand why anyone would use an AR15 cartridge through a bolt action rifle. You're buying the rifle. Just bite the bullet and get it chambered for an actual hunting round. There is no reason to go smaller than a short action. (308 type)
@@ImKagetsu I’m gonna respectfully disagree. I’ve got plenty of other rifles in more traditional hunting cartridges, but this is one of my favorites. While this particular rifle isn’t as light as I’d like, it’s a nearly ideal 200+ yard medium game setup in all other ways. The small gas volume makes it an excellent supersonic suppressor host (without the port pop you’d get from an AR), and it’s just a joy to shoot in general. 6.5 Grendel in a bolt action will most likely be the setup my kids kill their first deer with because it’s so easy to shoot well. My biggest buck and several other deer have fallen to my Grendels, no issues on terminal performance whatsoever. I’d argue that it IS an actual hunting round, and a dang good one at that.
Does it shoot good free floated? Tight groups?
I showed two of the three groups that I shot with this gun, it seemed to shoot pretty good. And yep it’s free floated.
Shield plus all day
I use surgical thin gloves when handling brass, and reloading . Also when I do auto work on my truck. Helps keep hand oils off the brass.
The Howa 1500 Mini Action 6.5 Grendel rifles are cool. I have one similar but with a detachable bix magazine. I just got it zeroed at 100 yards last night, using 123 Grain Hornady SST's. I'm taking ot along on my elk hunt this week.
Good luck! Not sure I’d use the SST on elk in the Grendel. I’d probably pick something copper for the penetration advantage. Its a marginal cartridge for the application IMO, better to get all the advantages elsewhere you can. This is all theory though as I’ve never hunted elk, so take that with a grain of salt lol. In any case, good luck!
6:06 I actually know the answer to this question. It's called 1/2" conduit because 1/2" thick wire is the largest size you can fit through it.
Came back to this video again. I’m really thinking your magazines are causing these issues.

@@devlinoshay9520 squirrel season is on here too! I’ll be getting out for both of them in the next week or two hopefully.
Great video and I’ll definitely have to get some stuff from TideWe, seems like some solid products. 👍🏻
I have a Basic Shield Plus. I carry it with the factory 10 round fluch magazine with the Magguts +3 kit. 13 rounds without any bulk. My favorite gun to carry. Although I still love my Glocks more. Just not for concealed carry.
I have a Howa 1500mini in 6.5Grendel. It’s a real sweetheart! It’s got the slim 22”bbl as I intended it to be a hunting rifle. With Hornady Black it gets 2,500fps and closely matches your accuracy. However with LVR just under published max, and the 123gr SST, it gets 2,550fps and 3/4” groups, but I’m seating to 2.26” OAL such that they fit the magazine. When I installed a 1.5” linear muzzle brake, my groups moved downward and left 3moa. I corrected back to 1.5” high at 100yds for a 150yd zero. Next shot was on a 16” spread buck, 200lb, in my backyard. Bang-flop. Gotta love the Grendel! My wife even commented on how quiet the rifle was shooting out the kitchen window. Seems the AAC is a good source for brass. It’s only little more than unprimed brass!
@@johnkilgore1055 sounds like you’re getting great results! I wish I had gotten the slimmer barrel. But looking at them now, I see some have 1/2x20 threads instead of 1/2x28? I don’t care for using a thread adapter so I’d probably get it cut down and rethreaded anyway. Most likely I’ll just keep the one I have and throw it in a different stock, hopefully with a lighter suppressor at some point. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You totally went backwards on the stock choice. I would take the factory stock, over that Hogue, with the pressure pad at the forend tip, and glass bed it. Guarantee I'd have it shooting sub moa for 5 shots in one day. That's with very minimal money spent too. You are giving some really poor advice in this video.
That’s cool aac is making harder to find ammo but it kinda sucks and psa shipping is ridiculously expensive
Really? I’ve ordered several times and it’s normally like $15. Seems reasonable
Wonderful review
Ive been shooting the barnes muzzle loader 250 gr bullets out of my 450 bushmaster. They are a flat base bullet with no groves like the ones designed for the 450bm but for 200 yards and in, you dont need a boat tail. Bought a bunch for 70 cents a piece years ago. Shooting them 2350 out of my 22 inch barrel with around 1 inch groups. Shot a doe a month ago at 210 yards and it whent right down with a pass through.
I have this same can and was thinking about this exact setup for the bolt gun. Is the Grendel a lot quieter than say a 6.5 Creedmoor or 308 win Suppressed?
I think it is, just because of the lower expelled gas volume. But I don't have any way to measure or quantify that.
Coplains about not being able to make hits but resets his grip after every shot if not every second shot... Yeah bud shooting pistols or any hand gun is about being consistant. This is not the guns fault it is a training issue.
What bullet were you shooting?
Hornady 168 BTHP
OK Generalist, Old timer here and what I see is simple shot stringing on target just before 14 minute mark. Slow it down gradually until group tightens up uniformly. Now, blind faith in Hornady loads may make you a believer in all things Hornady, or it may leave you flat--no hair, no blood, no deer. Epic bullet failure is the norm I have witnessed, from total bullet fragmentation, jacket/core separation, and my personal favorite no expansion at all. Yep, same size hole in as hole going out, basically a field point on an arrow on the biggest buck of your life. So, no matter what your direction of choice, inspect real life kills and gather data on bullet performance. I think a few feet slower than the Barnes posted data may surprise you as to effectivenes of that bullet--good hunting and keep an open mind.
I agree with using H110 for better uniformity on heavy loads
@@AllenDunn-y7b I have shot quite a few deer with XTPs out of my muzzleloader, and the last one I recovered had a core/jacket separation. And in .30-30, a 150gr Interlock left me with a long tracking job even with a double-lung shot. So no blind faith in Hornady loads here. I’ve found that I prefer all copper for hunting. I need to do some tuning up and further testing with this rifle for sure. I am going to try H110 for sure. The reason I started with LilGun is that it shot better in the 16” gun I was loading for last time. Thanks for the comment!
OK, I built it and the Darts don’t fly very well…I bought a m outh piece on line so no Air will escape and I think it wa a waste of time and money…
@@bigviper64 make sure your cones are straight and the dart is well balanced! Try out a few different designs to see what works best for you.
I wish the stock was a ridge as the older PCC carbines
If you get a chance try the Black butterfly 275 grn. Hex Saw. Very accurate round and lots of knock down power... Huge blood trails.
Hey not a fair comparison on shooting. You have smiths extended mag which is much larger grip area and sigs flush mag. Apples to apples would have been both flush mags being used. 10 rounds being fired each.
Could you give me dimensions on your bench that you are shooting from so I could make one
