Big Guy In a Tiny House
США
Добавлен 6 сен 2022
I built a tiny cabin in my backyard. But I'm not just PRETENDING to live off-the-grid in a funky little A-frame, I'm PRACTICING for the day I can do it in real life… Or PREPPING for when I NEED to.
If you enjoy building things using both your brain and your hands … OR if tiny homes, cozy spaces, homsteading, and the idea of a simpler, low-tech way of life doesn't sound all that bad - maybe even kinda fun … AND maybe you occasionally reflect on how those things add elements of truth and meaning to your life. Well then, you’re in the right place.

How Victor Davis Hanson Gave My DIY A-Frame Tiny Cabin Purpose
What a way to live, as we should be really, not like we do. Id give my left arm to live like that, bliss.
This man was one of our national treasures that few know about, he did what many of us only dream for and never do. The beauty of nature with this man of peace with a work ethic of three men in quiet solitude just overwhelmed me the first time I watched his films. Thank you this is a very good compilation of his work.
It’s a masterpiece. Cleaning the images was great. Facts added distract from Dick’s filming though, can’t listen to narration about topic 1 while reading caption about topic 2.
That he was, thats when men were MEN, now look at what we're stuck with.
He looked just like my uncle
Dick travelled all over the north and visited all kinds of communities he had airplane deliveries three times a week, far from living in solitude for 30 years.
R I P Sir.🙏🌼🌻
Unbelievable, what a wonderful life he had. A true hero
The original.
I've seen a longer documentary about Mister Proenneke, and he did have supplies flown in about every month, if I'm not mistaken.
Yes. Unfortunately, the maker of that longer documentary 2003 only sells it on DVD. It’s not available on any streaming service.
Great history, but what’s funny is if somebody was to try to go and do that in 2025 they would be arrested by the federal government
Yes… It was certainly a different time to live in.
One of my Heroes!!
I find the constant barrage of information banners distracting and unnecessary. Otherwise a great film.
It would be fascinating to know what Dick's fitness measurements were. If he hiked 3,000 miles a year, we're talking over 8 miles per day, every single day. That massive amount of exercise, the fresh air, his diet, etc., it must have created an incredible physiology.
Great video.
Thanks!
I remember seeing this film decades ago….beyond impressive. What a life.
Great video thanks, i have both original Docus on dvd ...rare man here , these days
So did we watch a recreation of his cabin being built or did someone literally film him making the original one?
Love the hermit thrush calls!
Thank you for this video. Love your cabin too! 54 years old. I remember watching with my dad, on our local PBS channel about Dick back in the mid 80's. Very comforting coming across this today.
I’m in my early 50’s and divorced after a 25 year marriage and want to do this so bad. Is it too late for me????? I’m a Georgia boy!!!
Ol’ DP was over 50 when he built his cabin up in Alaska.
Can we please stop this myth that Dick lived at his cabin for 30 years straight. He did not, He left it quite often. Once he and his brother bought a plane so that they no longer had to rely on others. Dick was flying the plane out to visit his brother in California (which he did often, the visiting I mean) and crashed by the highway. He was rescued and ended up recovering for 2 years in Cali. If I remember right, he may have spent just over 15 years actually living at Twin Lakes over those 30 years. All this information is available in his journals, which Proenneke buffs should find and read!
Guy was a master craftsman an expert carpenter.
Hey friend. Thank you so much for posting this! My 12 year old son really wanted the a frame cabin for xmas, but the price was too steep...even for Santa. you have just helped me decide that the knock off version might be worth investigating! Much appreciated, sir. Get well soon! Happy holidays from Texas!
Thanks for that feedback! It’s exactly why I made this video.
I first became familiar with Dick Proenneke’s life through the book, “One Man’s Wilderness”, by Sam Keith, during the 1970’s while I was living in Alaska. First in Sitka and later in Soldotna. Over all the passing years I continue to be in awe of Dick Proenneke’s story. Thank you
What an incredible legend, living off the land and loving nature authentically! My hero❤ , tearful at the end , i so want to see this hardworking ,knowledgeable mans cabin , just to be on the grounds he walked on and worshiped ❤
P.s...The Icing on The Cake For Me..Was Hearing Sam( Elliot) Do Some of The Narorating This Docu! He Grew Up Across From My Mother Fay Marie & Dad ( Bob).. And Anytime He Had a new Film Come Out His Sis.'Aunt Glenda Would Let Us Know! Love His Deep Tone..Very Distinct. Bless You Sam,Glenda& Denise, kev C.
I Was Surprised in The Docu. To See Dick Had a .357 pistol(Probably More For Sound..)2 Scare off a More Agressive bear. I Asked him if he Thought The .44 Was Enough To Stop a Brown bear..And in His Dry Humor He Said,"Pistol?" I Said "Yessir!" He Smiled& Said,"Better Save The Last Round..Fer Yerself!" Ha...(I Took That To He❤️rt..And Carried my 12ga.with Slugs! Dick Was At The Alsworths 'The Farm' Plowing For a crop of potatoes,When we met in 1991,I Think it was.. The Alsworth's Were a Fine Family & I Helped build Their Cabins..And Foundation For The Lodge. After Work Sometimes I'd Go Back to cabins with my Trumpet(One Time one of The Lovely Alsworth girl's(Menda), asked me If I'd Play For Them? I Remember Answering her.."Well..I'll PLAY For THE L O R D..AND Your Welcome To Listen..if You'd Like!";-) I Truely Fell IN LOVE With ALASKA!! WANTED Badly To Raise a Family Up Thar!! Unfortunately My Other Boss had a little Misunderstanding And I Was 'Ousted' before I Got To Finish Building The Lodge!:-( But I Will Always Cherish The Memories Of Port Alsworth & The Lovely Families I Broke Bread With! If You Ever Get The Opportunity To Go To Ak...Do Yourself a Favor& Book A Fishing/Hunting..Or Photo Op With 'Alaskan Adventures '..Meet These Beautiful People& Say Hi..For Me!!? Kevin cox;-) ❤ Thanks Many 🙌 BLESSINGS!
Thanks for sharing. I love to hear from people with a personal connection to DP. I do hope to make it up to Port Alsworth someday soon.
I had a difficult time watching and listening to Dick because the music seemed to dominate the video. It was irritating trying to hear what Dick was saying which was more important than the music.
I think this is amazing. I've always been a survivalist. I got married and never understood how dependant people were on the grid. I'm trying to teach my girls but my husband might be a lost cause
If you guys made a TV show, I would watch it 😄
Looks great!
The natives of Alaska and the 1st Nation of Northern Territories were also living a much simpler better way of life long long ago... Dick had a natural connection to nature. People are meant to be in nature period.. we are not designed to live in concrete cities NO cities should have ever been built. Everything should have been part of nature, in tune with nature and blending in with nature. Our vibrations are in tune with nature and the Natural world
Not true about big game u can smoke and salt it and none will go to waste!! Amish have been preserving meat long before dick went to Alaska
0:40 as if video games, or the internet, could ever match the experience of crawling into a bears den.
Wow, Dick was an amazing man. Much respect 💯🇺🇸
I watched his life story on PBS program all the time.
I've watched all his films . His truly an American hero!!!!!
Some people are born with a free spirit and are happier alone...
LMAO. I’d do a micro house if I could have a 50x80 shop in the back yard
Sad so cool thanks 🙏
I just love Dick
🤨
Ok, here we go again, the Music is too loud. It really isn’t necessary, Very distracting. In fact I’m not going to finish watching, Respectfully
Good feedback. 👍
My hero .
Never heard of a plain barring. Plane maybe
✨PURE & TOTAL INSPIRATION ❤ Pure Human, true living, una vida con sentido
Everyone secretly wants a bit of Walden's Pond!❤
If it wasn't for Sam Elliot anti American. I'd listen
