How to assemble a Bally 7 digit display kit from Wolfpacc Tech!
Pretty ambitious project, but you likely know that. SMDM is a great game and is worthy of this treatment. Oh, and it’s Steve Austin and not Steve Rogers. 👍
On the roll overs I still think CPR is standing too much off the top of the inserts. Once you get yours cleaned and buttons inserted do your rollover buttons fully seat flush when fully down or are they still 1/8" proud? I've seen they sit proud of the playfield which NOT how they should be they should sit flush. I had to modify rollover buttons and it's irritating, time consuming and not something the owner may want to do should they need to replace them. On CPR I've also noticed that their clearing process is not the same quality. You can now see sprayer jet trails in the clear!!!!! Chris Hutchins has noted this as well. I'm letting these latest playfields I have cure some to see if it makes a difference.
These are pretty flush. Maybe less than 1/16th inch above the playfield when depressed. You are correct though. The original playfield inserts sit completely flush. Only thing I can think of is the insert they are using is slightly too shallow and doesn’t allow the base of the actuator to depress as far.
Hi Rick, the nail in the front by the coin door keeps the coin reject button from gouging the cabinet when you open the door. Great work!
That's some next level pinball knowledge there, thank you. I was mystified by this nail too.
Wow! Never knew that! Thanks for the info!
Glad to see you back! Congrats on the move.
Good to see you back at it. We've been slow this past year for other reasons, mainly we can only work on 1 full restoration in our tiny shop at a time and delays with various things out of our control. Hoping to get positive traction on getting our playfield rescreened this spring which will get us back on track. We have 2 games in the pipeline right behind the one we are working on right now. Funny how I thought our 1 car garage would make for a nice workshop. Nope. 🤣
The cyclone coaster is awesome, is it a possibility to have another one made
Great job, Rick! I need to get some plays on a good shadow.
Thanks! If you’re local you’re welcome to come by!
You forgot that Great Plains closed down about 18 months ago. Such a shame as it was perhaps the best source for pinball connectors and electronics. I use Jameco, Pinball Life, Wire-Bot and others for connectors.
I didn’t know they had closed! Bummer! Shows how long it’s been since I ordered Molex parts!
Fantastic job!
Thanks very much!
Have been rewatching the 90's television show Northern Exposure on Amazon Prime. Since I recently purchased my very first pin (Rush Premium), I now have been noticing pinball machines in televisions shows that I'm watching. That being the case, Northern Exposure most definitely has a Cyclone pin in the neighborhood bar called The Brick. Great Restoration by the way.
Beautiful game, Rick! Thank you for the wonderful comments! I can’t wait to see what you do for next year.
Thanks Ben! I have a few ideas cooking in the old brain!!
Great job Rick, it was very well done. Those flipper skills there at the end were amazing! 🤣
They were amazing, weren't they? Must have been some anonymous pinball wizard...
The multi colors look really good.
Thanks!!
Beautiful work, and thanks for the shout-out! (Mr_Tantrum on Pinside)
Top! seu trabalho, sou afim de fazer um pra mim.
Thanks for the tips. I haven’t tried some of those. I hate Bondo, but haven’t found a replacement. Have you tried drywall putty as a glaze? Works good, easy to work with.
I have not but it sounds like a good option!!
Sorry for all the comments. I don’t want to be that guy, but is your buddy looking to unload one of those night riders?
Hah, no. He uses them to convert into Evel Kinevals.
I’ve never used a gun to spray that type of thing. I’ll have to try it. Thanks for the info.
I’ve always replay the bottom at this stage, before painting. I’ve seen people knock it out, repaint, then install the new bottom after. I guess it makes it easier to paint the inside. 🤷♂️ have you ever tried it that way?
No, but it’s a good idea!
Do you need to drill pilot holes in plywood? I’d be more scared of drilling all the way through
I drill on the top side to reduce the chance of the clear cracking. I don’t usually drill on the bottom side because of the risk of drilling through
Had a bet with myself during the Timelapse if your bin of screws would spill on the floor. 😂
Look forward to your content. I’m working my way through it!
Thanks! Appreciate the support!!
Hi, I recently purchased a Cyclone that needs some playfield work. So I'm following along. One question, some of my decals on my inserts are really worn. I'm trying to remove them and I'm not having luck. I have used flour/alcohol method to no avail. Any advice for me? Keep up the work on your Cyclone. It's nice to see you bring that back to life.
To replace decals you really need to remove the insert and then sand off the decal to level the insert or replace the insert. If you want to keep the insert in place you can try scraping with a razor blade and see if you can get the decal off that way, just tape off around the insert so you don’t damage the paintwork around it.
Great advice. The UPOL BF in my opinion is just like the Bondo equivalent. They smell the same, go on the same, sand the same, same cure times, same ratio of hardner, etc. I just wished the UPOL glaze was thinner so I can spread it easier and further. I found getting a thin skim coat to be tedious. I do think there is a place for standard wood filler. For panel boards, backbox panel, etc. Things that don't take a lot of abuse and just need to be smoothed out.
I had the same problem with my Montana White Black spattering everywhere. I changed out the nozzle and it was much better. Great video with an excellent outcome.
Thank you Panther City Pinball Rick, this was timely, thorough, thought provoking and entertaining.
I really appreciate the "tutorial" on how too use the HVLP purple spray gun! Thank you for taking the time to record and document this repair process :D I have a No Fear DS that I'm thinking about redoing the cabinet because of the color fade throughout the years and these videos are giving me a lot more confidence!
Thanks! You can do it!
I just stumbled upon your channel and wanted to say what a great first video! Thanks for taking the time to show your thoughts when looking at a used pin! I'm excited to see more of the restore process :D
Hey thanks!! Very kind of you!
Oh, I'm in the sand fill, sand fill phase as well. The head will be tomorrow. Then skim coat. Then more sanding. Thanks for all the help!
OOOHHHH Yea!!! Very nicely done Panther City Pinball. Chicka chickahhh...
It's so beautiful!
Thanks!! I appreciate that!
