The Stihl 090 AV - Youngy's Stuff
I may have teased this video a bit early, but it has been 90% done for 2 months while I waited to get home and finish it but bushfires, getting sick, trouble with footage, and lack of time just kept pushing it back. I am finally able to say happily that it is done and ready to enjoy.
This is a video about an old Stihl 090 AV that I asked my Grandfather on my Mother's side to buy for my Father - Youngy -. Youngy and I talk about his experience with these saws at the beginning of a career in timbercutting that began in the 80's and continues even now 40 years on. We chat on what we know about this one, a little bit on the history of timbercutting in Queensland, and tuning a the beast.

The Big One (16.868 Cubic Metre Blue Gum) - 1999, QLD, Australia
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
Enjoy this old video of the second largest tree my father ever cut down in his 40 year timber cutting career. It was a Blue Gum which grew and was felled in the Auburn River region of QLD; right beside the Auburn River as a matter of fact. The main body of the log measured 12.3*122, making it a 14.379 cubic metre log, but as well it also held a monster 3.3*98 (2.489 cubic metre) head log from j...
Felling 5.2 Cubic Metre Iron Bark in 1999
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 года назад
This is a 9.9*82 Narrowleaf Iron Bark my Father cut with in 1999 with a Stihl 084 chainsaw. You will see that despite the lean of the tree he needed a fair bit of wedging and touching up of the hinge wood to fall where he wanted as the limb to the right had substantial weight to it. My father says this is a good example of the careful work you have to do with wedges sometimes. This tree would h...

This is a section of video from a tape my Mother filmed in the latter months of 1999. In this video you will see my Grandfather, on my Mother's side, and my Father barking and snigging iron bark on my Grandparent's property in Queensland. There is a video of my father falling and prepping the large iron bark you see being snug several times in this video I will put up in another separate video ...

    Yep. Well that's what those saws were made for, not many others could keep up I'd say, heavy as a falling saw but perfect in that orientation.

    Good vid - takes some muscle to work those old saws. I had an old 051 (no chain brake) and an 076 (solid old saws) - I am interested in how the posts get ripped out of that log? Is that the finished shape (if u kept cutting till they intersect)?

    • @Cutter_Number_30
      @Cutter_Number_30 Год назад

      Good thing my old man knows how to wrestle one. And they sound like nice old saws for sure. In a billet like this one where we might get five or six posts out of it you cut only as deep as Youngy did in the video, then you drive in a wedge from one side or two from both sides and snap them out with crowbars. You are then left with the heart wood that you can use for firewood. Cheers.

    the chainsaw has a brutal rotation it seems to me that it has 10000rpm

    • @Cutter_Number_30
      @Cutter_Number_30 Год назад

      Youngy reckons he heard that these saws rev to 8000 rpm max. The brutal rotation is likely because of the 40 year old half inch chain that tears massive chunks of sawdust out of the billet.

  • @Machinesvehiclesvariouscontent
