This hugely disadvantages those people and enriches the elite. When I came to NZ from Australia in the 1970s I was blown away by the unity of the Kiwi culture. Everyone was just a good old Kiwi and there was no discernable discrimination on the basis of race. The first job I had here was working for a Maori boss and he was great -- a fine example of how race was not an issue. Sadly, because of all the gravy trains and money to be made by the elite few, that unified Kiwi culture has been lost and now there is a divisive "them and us" void between Maori and non-Maori. Such a tragedy, such a loss for all Kiwis.
