Binding a Trilogy into One Volume | Howl's Moving Castle | DIY Bookbinding
Welcome back to my channel! In today’s video, I’ll be creating a unique single-volume edition of Howl’s Moving Castle trilogy by Diana Wynne Jones.
I’ve made some design changes compared to my custom Italian edition, which was already a single-volume trilogy, and added a few extra details. What do you think?
To create this, I purchased a brand-new box set. This volume has already been sold, but if you’d like to own a similar handmade edition, feel free to contact me at bookishdiy@gmail.com.
Please note that these are primarily decorative pieces for your bookshelf, as they’re a bit stiff and not the most practical for reading. If you’re a fan or collector of Howl's Moving Castle and its sequ...

    Ciao, complimenti per le tue creazioni. Anche io sto rilegando Il Conciliatore perchè ha una copertina indecorosa. Posso chiederti dove hai preso i font e i disegni per Cricut? Poi vorrei chiederti se è meglio il vinile normale o quello termico che hai usato per Elantris.

      Ciao, grazie mille! I font li cerco su dafont.com mentre le immagini su pinterest e di solito prima di inserirle su cricut design space ne rimuovo lo sfondo (sempre su un sito, io uso www.remove.bg/it ) in modo che il taglio venga il più preciso possibile. Per quanto riguarda il vinile io adesso preferisco quello termico, dopo averlo provato non lo lascio più! Spero di esserti stata utile! Grazie per il commento e buona rilegatura 😄

    I'd love to be able to do this!! I've just got into book binding and I'm currently hand sewing a6 journals. I've tried a hardback notebook but must've used the wrong type of card for the covers because it bent with the glue. I would love to be able to do this and gift it!

    • @BookishDIYChronicles
      @BookishDIYChronicles 27 дней назад

      @@ByAnnieBasson Keep going! You might want to try using thicker cardstock or even proper binding board. I personally use ones that are 1.5 mm thick with a weight of 945 g/m², and since I discovered them, I haven’t looked back-they’re incredibly sturdy! If you glue them and let them dry for 24 hours in a press or under heavy weights, they won’t bend at all. With practice, I’m sure you’ll achieve even better results over time. 😄 By the way, I’ve also tried hand-sewing notebooks, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with the results. I ended up setting it aside to focus more on making book covers. Still, I’d love to pick it up again and improve! I completely agree-they would make amazing gifts!

      Thank you for your comment! 🥰 Not leaving 1 cm of space without glue shouldn't cause significant issues unless the cover is extremely rigid. If flexible materials are used, the book should still be easy to read. That said, this cover isn’t very practical due to how I decorated it. Every time I open it, it sheds particles. For this reason, I think I’ll redo it someday 😂

    Quick questions: where do you buy your leather effect cover material from? I like how it seems to be pre-glued and you peel the back off and just stick it down? Also, I have a certain book and want to remove the useless introduction to the edition, do you think at the stage of removing the paperback cover I could slice the pages out and then continue the process by strengthening the spine as usual? Or would cutting pages away damage the book block?

    • @BookishDIYChronicles
      @BookishDIYChronicles 2 месяца назад

      It's faux adhesive leather, which is very sticky but also practical. I bought it on Temu, but you can also find it on other sites, like Amazon. As for your second question, it is possible to remove some pages, but, as happened to me a few times, others might come loose as well. In those cases, I was able to reattach them with glue. Just be careful, and you’ll see that it will turn out great! :)

      Hi! Thank you for your questions! There are various types of vinyl, so it really depends on which one you choose. Generally, you don’t need glue, as most vinyls are either adhesive or can be applied with heat. In this video, I used permanent vinyl, which is highly resistant to both UV rays and water, and it's guaranteed to last at least 3 years. However, since it's applied to the cover of a book and kept indoors, I believe it may last even longer. Additionally, it's easy to apply with the help of transfer tape. Even better is the heat transfer vinyl (HTV), which adheres much more strongly to the cover. If you're curious to see how it works, I used it in my recent videos. You’ll need a mini press for this method, and the application is a bit more challenging, but if you're patient, the results are truly satisfying! I hope I was helpful, and if you have any other questions, let me know! 🥰
