Commercial airplanes spend 15% of every "flight" driving on the ground. Auto-taxi is an important capability for an autonomous plane, allowing the aircraft to safely and efficiently move between gates and runways while accounting for wind, ground vehicles, and crews working on the apron.
When done well, taxi enables high throughput traffic flow without compromising safety. In a future with small, self-flying planes serving shorter routes between regional airports, do you think time spent taxi'ing will make up a larger or smaller fraction of each flight?

Ribbit demonstrates an automated taxi with a safety pilot onboard. Taxing is one of the critical features that will allow the mass adoption of autonomous aircraft. Full details: The aircraft starts at the Apron, taxies to the runway threshold, and completes a full stop to confirm the runway free of traffic. Once confirmed, the aircraft taxis onto the runway and takes off.

Amazing - well done!! Safety pilot at the ready, good to see a strong safety culture ;-) Hwo was the flare? It's hard to see on the video. Also, is it a radio altimeter that you are using visible on the screen? Curious...

i'd also love to know more about what the regulatory environment looks like for this, will it eventually be treated as a UAS in a legal sense?
Super cool! i'd love to see something breaking down the work you guys have done! how much of it is putting together off the shelf components and validating it all works together vs how much have you guys had to build on your own!
