Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a celebrated Buddhist pagoda and an architectural wonder from the Tang Dynasty, was initially constructed by Buddhist monk Xuanzang in 652 AD. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was designed to house Buddhist scriptures and is regarded as a jewel of ancient Chinese architecture. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda forms part of the Da Ci’en Temple complex, the holiest Buddhist site in Xi’an. The temple was erected by Crown Prince Li Zhi in 648 AD in honor of his mother, Empress Zhangsun. Xuanzang, invited by Crown Prince Li Zhi, served as the Abbot of this temple.
