They should've made it possible to beat him. The following cutscene would have Asbel going in for a finishing blow before their mom comes in begging them to stop. Hubert, seeing an opening, attacks Asbel and claims victory.

Usually tales games have interesting cutscenes when you beat someone you're not supposed to. They should've done something like that.

I hate that old trope. You win, but then cutscene says no. They could have made one new scene where you win through effort, show both brothers tired, and then guards show up and Hubert says something like 'you may be stronger and more skilled, but I have numbers'. You get some wicked Exp, a very helpful item, maybe a weapon a few areas ahead of where you are, and a hefty chunk of Hubert's allowance. You still lose, but now it's justified. Asbel was tired from the fight, and he wasn't going to risk a war.

the japanese voice for the turtle is 100% way better then the English version one where the voice is a hippie male while the character design is of a little girl.

For those playing the english version, this is done at the Ladylake Noble's District towards the end of the game from the Turtlez sidequest and buying all their maps.

I thought this was pretty solid, all things considered. I've never seen anyone solo w/o PC3/red charge, so seeing someone go at it the old school way is refreshing to look at =03.

The best way to pass the Hard mode is to pause EXACTLY when Asbel spoke the first letter, then read the quote and look it up online for which one. That's how I cheat xP

his HP never goes down to 0. He only makes you THINK he is at 0HP, when he actually has 389,121 HP. Take that much and you win the battle =03.

My friend and i did the same thing to kill him lol, but i'm curious as to why we were doing so much less damage then you, we were lvl 67 and doing no where near that much damage. Also is there a trick to keeping him stunned like that? he kept breaking out randomly when we were fighting him

First time: I was an idiot and charged him....he took me out with three artes (Pyre Shot 2x and Aqua Bullet)....I was SO PISSED

This fight is just useless. Just let him defeat you. You will never beat him here at the Manor. The game is telling you at this point you are not yet ready to take Hubert on even though you have just started the game and even though you think you're good enough and you think your current levels are also good those levels of yours are still no match match for Hubert. You have to think to yourself he has 4 times the power and has more skills and Mystic Artes than you do and you haven't even got a single Mystic Arte up to this point.Also to add onto the mechanics of this fight Hubert has a limiter cap in place to which he is only operating on 1/4 of his true power and you are at this point using all 4/4 of your power to beat him here.So this is WHY you're inevitably going to lose this fight.Also to finish this comment this fight serves to be a mandatory plot point exposition that serves to make you progress through the story.

this makes one hell of a trivia game. In fact, older tales fans could make a board game out of it... it'd be fun if that were possible, perhaps combine Tales of VS with it... if it ever got a western release.

On my first playthrough (I played on hard) he was beating the crap outta me and almost thought about using items but it was obvious you had to lose. Still took about half his health down...
