A Quick Chat About an Issue I See in Shrouds…
Hey Guys! I wanted to pop in and share a common issue I see in shrouds when I am assembling them. It is a super quick fix if you catch it early, but will cause a headache if you don’t.
As noted in the video, I am filming alone here, so give me some grace with some of the clips! It’s hard to machine and film without chopping my hand or the shroud in half!
Here is the link to the products discussed in the video. When you buy through our Amazon storefront, it helps the channel so we can keep bringing this content to you.

Erik Cortina reveals his secret to winning the Southwest Nationals | Live Interview and Q&A
Southbend is a nice Taiwan lathe probably made in the same plant as the Sharp lathe but with better parts, if you want the best manual lathe I would say Hwacheon or Takisawa but they are not variable speed.
I just use a small rat tail file 😅 kidding great information
When you going to do a vid on blueprinting a fire control system ?
love those old travadials😉
Thank you, Speedy! Hopefully, I can get a speedy built rig soon!
Lots of times when the sharp edge is chamfered, it will raise a small burr on the I.D. I always chamfer from the inside out to prevent that.
Love your videos Speedy!
Must agree with Accu, would use a reamer rather than an interrupted cut with a boring bar.
I think I would bore first to guarantee the hole is straight and cylindrical, then ream the remainder miniscule diameter. In my head, this would yield the same results (although added cost of non-standard reamer size) AND provide a better surface finish, especially if leaving in the white.
@AccuSol-ERN Very good point.
The Speedy is in the details...
There’s only one Speedy! Depending on which side of the fence you’re on - thank God!
I’m a sponge when Speedy talks. His knowledge is amazing!!! Thanks!!
Once again, Speedy delivers a detail nugget with exceptional skill! The result IS the sum OF the details! Nice work Speedy, thanks.
Can Cortina do this. Probably not. He'd probably need a computer gadget. Beep boop boy. Just kidding. Just commenting for the algorithm
Well when you take care of things they stay nice
Hello speedy
Excellent content, I'd film for you if I was around.
Need to get me some micro 100's and some BoeLube now. Can't argue with that surface finish.
Thanks for sharing Speedy!
I know it is tough with an interrupted cut, but what do you recommend for leaving a better surface finish inside the shroud where you did the single point boring? Maybe reaming the final .001 or .002? Do you find you open shrouds to the same diameter each time? Great video, it is always appreciated.
Man there are Mike Green's everywhere!!
Hay Speedy , Eric has an air rifle now and considering trying a competition . When are you going to get one and try your skills out at the "Rocky Mountain Air gun Challenge" for a twenty thousand dollar first place win ? Yes $20,000 for first in seven different challenges . And yes an air rifle can shoot long range . Tone Jones shot his .308 texan over a mile just for fun .
I am just getting started in Benchrest!! I have a question about what process I should use. I have new alpha brass and barts 69fb bullets and a gun with a brand new bartline barrel. Do I do load development and breaking in and fire forming all at the same time or how should I go about doing these processes??
Speedy I always enjoy your videos, and learn from them. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
.002" head expansion or .0002" head expansion? .002" is a ton.
Why am I even watching any Cortina videos when this channel exists. Exciting locals, riveting content and a handsome devil presenting all the details. Erik better pack it in. His channel is doomed.
I seen a test with alpha and lapua one of them shot about 25fsp faster i don't remember which one.
Video idea How do you true up a fire control group on the 700 style bolt guns
Who knew this is sooo much. I just feel this is the right guy Any argument. !
Anytime you want to share stuff like this I would love it! Seeing how the tools work and how to use them is priceless.
Like the sound effects! 😂
Came to watch a master and found some comedy along the way. Speedy you da man!
Love the music😅😅😅😅
Hi erik
Speedy you are the man, im retiring in a year and I'm going to build my own guns like this....CANT WAIT!
Congratulations!
I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. An excellent production. Oh, some very nice work too! I liked the use of the board to catch runaway glue. I generally just catch it on my shoes. Sad to say, many of my own techniques are much more of the jackleg variety; so are my videos! Anyway, I liked it and subscribed, so I'll likely watch some more. Regards, Will Henry (Bill Leeper)
Thx boss!
Coconut tree music ha haha ha ha ha hahahaha
Pickle fork that puppie
This is one of the best videos I've ever watched, so informative, I'm a machinist and speedy the way you t
Great video, Speedy! Easy to follow and very detailed. Thank you.
Thanks for another great video Speedy. I would like to see a in-depth bedding video as well. 👍👍👍
Like watching Bob Ross working on a gun stock.
I will get a frizzy wig!
@speedygonzalez_x_files 😆😆😆
Why purposefully running the cutter the wrong way, or as you called it unconventional direction?
The diamond can run in either direction, You want to climb cut off you wood so as not to chip the wood out as you would coming off of it using a conventional cut. Thanks for asking boss!
Tip tops Speedy. Very nice!! Lee Gardner
I’m glad you didn’t mention any painters names. 🤣
Coconut Tree!
EXCELLENT!!
