    I had a vasectomy that was cauterized, 2 years ago. My urologist said since my first check showed zero I never have to check my count again. Is it basically pointless for me to do so 2 years later and the fact that my vas was cauterized?

    • @snipvasectomyclinic
      @snipvasectomyclinic Год назад

      Once you have had a clear semen test you will receive clearance. We normally advise this test to be done 3 months after your vasectomy to give time for the tubes to clear. There is no need to do any more testing after this, ever.

      @@snipvasectomyclinic does burning the vas using cautery basically make it almost impossible for them to ever reconnect

    • @snipvasectomyclinic
      @snipvasectomyclinic Год назад

      The chance of vas reconnection is about 1:2000 people. This is the same for all methods of vasectomy. To put this in perspective, the chance of tubal ligation (female sterilization) failing is between 1:60 to 1:200, and the best reversible contraceptive (Mirena) is 1:200. Of course, you can do a future semen test to confirm that you are still infertile. But we do not recommend it as secondary failure is rare, and more importantly, a subsequent negative test cannot predict future failure.

    Would putting the semen sample in my freezer allow me to have more time to have it checked?

    • @snipvasectomyclinic
      @snipvasectomyclinic Год назад

      Good question. After a sucessful vasectomy, there is either no sperm present, or a very small amount of dead ones. The reason semen needs to be at the lab within an hour is to make sure that, if there are a few sperm around, they were dead when they left your body - not that they died waiting to be placed under the microscope. If you put your semen in the freezer that would kill any live sperm and be counterproductive. There is also the risk it would get mixed up with the ice cream!

      Hi, in the past we used to ask for 2 samples before clearing people. But this has now changed. International guidelines now say one clear sample is enough. Some doctors might still use the old advice of 2. But the most up to date practice is to only need to do one sample. As long as that one is clear - you are all done

    I just had mine done on Friday. I couldn’t believe that I actually went through with it😳. All I could think about leading up to that date, is how bad this is going to hurt😖. It’s my balls for crying out loud😵😵‍💫😵‍💫! Needless to say there was no pain at all😮‍💨. Which was great,👌🏽because I don’t do well with pain😂. So now I’am hoping that mine worked. I guess I’ll find out some time in July. My wife has the IUD right now, so we’re extra safe. All though she needs to have hers checked because she’s had it in for a while now🤔. Shortly after our son was born. He’ll be 11 next month. I think she needs to get another one put in at least ☝🏽 more time for safety. We don’t need another oops baby 😂. Our daughter is 14. Two kids is enough. Plus we’re not trying to start over again.

    Here's a useful excerpt from a reputable medical website: www.vasectomy-information.com/risks/post-vasectomy-pain-syndrome/ Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome (PVPS) refers to a variety of distressing and painful symptoms that can develop after vasectomy. These include pain or dull ache in the epididymides or testes, discomfort with sexual intercourse or after vigorous activity, and pain during or after ejaculation. The incidence of PVPS in post-vasectomy surveys varies widely but symptoms persist longer than 3 months in 15-20% of men and can become chronic. The available studies indicate that 1-5% of men are severely affected and report pain during sex or pain affecting quality of life. Conservative measures such as scrotal support, heat or cold therapy, and anti-inflammatory medications help in mild cases. Surgical treatment for cases failing conservative management has included conversion to open vasectomy, microsurgical denervation of the spermatic cord, vasovasostomy, epididymectomy, and inguinal orchiectomy. Vasovasostomy (vasectomy reversal) is an effective intervention in up to 85% of persistent cases. Informed consent for vasectomy should include a discussion of PVPS so that the patient and their partner are prepared for this outcome, as PVPS is the most common vasectomy outcome affecting quality of life.

      We have no lower limit of age for a person wanting a vasectomy. Vasectomy should be regarded as irreversable, but as an adult over the age of 18, if you are ready to make a decision to have no more (or any) kids, that is your decsion to make.
