    For all his length and bulk, Reneau still is soft on D in the paint. He is. How many shots does he block or even try to block? Mbako's D has improved a little, but not nearly enough. IU has a length and physicality advantage in the paint that they are consistently not taking advantage of. No way a UNCG team - in Assembly Hall - should get 17 ORs and only get outrebounded by 5. And what is the story with Galloway and Goode? Neither has shown up for the season yet. Tonight, 32 minutes total between them, 3 points. 5th year seniors are supposed to play like Max Bielfeldt, not like true freshmen! All the red flags that showed themselves in the Tennesee W - that would have been a W for Tenn if they had not thrown it away - they keep getting worse, not better: lack of assists, ORs given up, turnovers, poor 3pt shooting, poor 3pt defense. IS this team actually practicing at all? They play like a team that does not practice, or they practice with no effort or concentration. If they are working on these problem areas in practice, why are they not improving, and continuing to get worse?

    Woodson needs to look in the mirror. We are up 17 and then he subs out all the starters. It is like he wants to stop momentum. I know he has to know the metrics require a blow out. Then he opens his mouth and I realize he is just clueless. I think Goode is fine with 4 starters, but putting him on the floor with Hatton really hurts him. How about pairing the subs with 3 or 4 starters. Woody is just stubborn. Indiana has a great football coach and one of the worst basketball coaches in the B1G. What a waste of money.

    1. You do need to change the title to better reflect the importance of football in your coverage of IU Athletics. Focusing on an Olympic sport like men's basketball is not going to cut it. 2. To say that "No one could have predicted this" is to be a bit self-serving to one's own position. BetMGM had JMU at 25-1 to get into the CFP before the season and IU at 150-1. When you realize that Vegas thought that the JMU coaches and players were still at JMU for this season, and so were undervaluing IU by 6x going into the season, then it wasn't hard to put some money down on IU to make the CFP. At 150-1, you don't have to put too much money down to wind up with a payout of 10k. So not so. There were some of us who did see this as a possibility with a high upside. 3. When you looked at the schedule, it was clear that UCLA had a new coach. NW had a new coach and a non-factor for a home field. Michigan State had a new coach. Washington had a new coach and lost its best players. Nebraska looked to be a problem, but was a home game coming off a bye, and Purdue had a newish coach and had not adapted to the realities of NIL? The only teams I thought were going to be a bridge too far were Michigan (assuming that they had enough from last year to look like Michigan) and the juggernaut that is OSU. So I had IU at 10-2. Got a bit lucky and am now looking at 12-0 or 11-1. My point is that you could look at an older coach who had; done 20 years as an assistant at the highest levels, won at 3 different levels of college football consistently, and had the advantages of NIL and the transfer portal, and see that there was a reasonable chance (barring injuries) that IU could end up as it has. That was all there before the season. And all of the media who were providing us with that info, did not take the reflective time to address that possibility or did think of it but didn't choose to share that thinking.

    Great episode that helps put IU’s great season in perspective. I too was hoping for eight wins this season and gaining respect. As the conference realignment came on line this summer I thought IU was so fortunate to be in the Big Ten. Based on IU’s football history relegation to the MAC seemed appropriate. But having the resources of the Big Ten has enabled IU to become relevant. Hopefully IU will sustain respectability. It seems keeping Coach Cignetti is more likely in this environment. Maybe coaching salaries level off so more is available to pay players? My Purdue friends and relatives all tell me IU will lose Cignetti like they lost Brohm. I do think so. I remind myself to live in the moment and enjoy this season. Also, please invest in a good microphone.

  • @MattK9548
    @MattK9548 13 дней назад

    Totally agree, Zach. From my point of view, with the CFP committee ranking IU at #5, they are basically saying, "As long as you don't get blown out by 30 or 40 by Ohio St, you're in the playoffs." So, at this point, I'd say IU is firmly in the CFP's. Which is crazy to think about tbh, lol. Scott Dolson needs to hand Cignetti a blank check. I'm thinking $86M over 10 yrs with incentives that could put him over $100M over the same time period.

    • @Michael-gu5kl
      @Michael-gu5kl 13 дней назад

      True but that said IMO do you see most of his assistants leaving after this season and Cignetti leaves if the SEC calls? Oh and I think that while I'm not a IU fan but my degree is from IU and yes I'm a Purdue fan part of me thinks that IU finds a way to win!

    • @MattK9548
      @MattK9548 13 дней назад

      @@Michael-gu5kl Firstly, for sure you're going to start seeing the "Alabama effect", i.e. start seeing Cignetti's assistants start getting picked off. Maybe not after this season. But if IU has another season like this next year? Heck yeah. Major colleges will start picking off his assistants. As far as Cignetti leaving? Maybe. Maybe not. I felt like seeing IU ranked at #5 ensuring that they will be in the CFP's this season even with one loss, was huge in keeping Cignetti. Why? Because, if I'm a HC in the B10 and win 11 games but still get shut out of the CFP because of where I'm coaching, then I know I need to move to a school I KNOW that I can definitely still have a shot at a natty, even with 1 loss. But those fears were abated for me this evening. Secondly, do I think IU can beat Ohio St? Yes. I was a little more nervous about thinking that after such a difficult game offensively against Michigan due to Michigan having legit "Sunday" players on their defense much like Ohio St. But, after going back and watching the film, I saw several plays that IU typically has made this season still open, but just slightly off. Sarratt had 2 drops that he normally makes that would have put IU in a position to score 2 additional touchdowns. That's 14 points right there. That OPI call after a catch at the 2 yard line was iffy at best. That would have set IU up for an additional touchdown. Add 3 additional touchdowns to that score (21 pts), and now you have a 41-15 win. Which is more in line with IU's offensive output this season against a Michigan defense boasting at least 5 players that will more than likely play on Sundays. I think if IU does in fact lose against Ohio St it won't be by more than a touchdown. IU's defense is phenomenal.
