Is It able to use tone x unplugged of Pc? Just the tonex, the speakers and the guitar? Nice video and cover!
Yes you would need a tonex pedal and a good linear speaker like a frfr speaker or a PA.
Not that good I must say.
Sweet
You demo a pack for sale that anyone could easily get the same tones by dialing in a model of a Fender vibrolux or twin reverb in about 2 minutes? this is nothing special at all.
Maybe. I could not dial in these tones on any existing profile within 2 minutes so I spend many days creating these profiles/tone captures. Following your argument no profiles would be necessary at all since all amps are available already. Truth is that those packs are aimed at people that don't have the knowledge or time to dial in a tone with that precision. You are lucky if you can dial in tones that easily. Btw the profiles are based on a Two Rock SSS, which is close to the Dumble SSS that was used on the original album.
Sounds thin and weak...........
Awesome
Nam has been updated so now a few conclusions of the video are not up to date
That's true. Things are evolving quickly. With Genome and other commercial products the NAM ecosystem is evolving. It might be time for a follow-up since I just released a NAM, tonex and Kemper pack. It might be a good shootout part 3😉
@@pwcprofiles great . Please try to match the levels of the reamped file in nam as it will get more accurate to the sound being profiled. Keep on the good work !!!!
Wow, those alternating streams of the same sequence is a GREAT way to compare them... probably the best I've seen anyone do on here.
😝 *Promo SM*
Dude, that's absolutely perfect! I bet if you paired it up with the John Petrucci Tone Mission IRs it'd be even that much better!
I have bought other Petrucci profiles, and they aren't even close to the sound I am getting from this profile..Excellent work Stefan
God bless you for stopping by this comment, and may your entire family prosper in all areas
Damn, I'm just getting into the preamp rabitt hole and this is amazing. I'm considering going amp-less.
You’re using the Mark V DI with an IR?? 🤦♂️ Mark Vs normally sound way better than this, not to mention how many sounds you can get out of this amp that the Mooer can’t do. This video is deceiving.
Everyone knows that the mark amp series is the pinacle of the Mesa product portfolio. The amount of Sound you get from these amps is excessive. Especially the 5 band EQ is a string tone shaping tool. I see the moor of a snapshot of a specific mark IV sound. It does not offer the whole variety of a real amp. But the gain structure is so close that those two devices can sound very similar in a specific setting and a good IR. If you're looking for that kind of sound the mooer is a steal deal. I use it regularly for jamming at home to avoid tube wear of. Also it could be a nice backup if your amp breaks down on a gig 😉
agreed. The video is deceiving as the real amp sounds cheap here. One should compare with the best sounds available both the amp and the pedal, here they made the amp sound low quality with IR's and eq's.
Nice profile. Is there any discount ?
Is PWC still in operation ? I noticed there's no sale discount this summer. Will it be any when black Friday come ?
I'm aware that things have been quiet lately. But, yes! I'm still in the games. Make sure to be subscribed to the mailing list to be informed about upcoming sales.
I personally just prefer amp-only caps vs full rigs. The ones I have tried sound flat or not as lively. Not as bad as a non-IR cab sim that uses some filters to create a bad cab emulation, but it's similar. Lacking resonances and reflections of the speaker inside the cabinet. Much prefer the Pre and Poweramp to be captured then use external IR. Plus, way more flexible tonally. Someone might have the best gain character ever but ruin it with a nasty fizzing cab and mic setup. Excellent compare btw.
NAM sounds like the cab-sim is off, something doesnt seem right here
Proteus sounds most accurate to me, NAM sounds considerably brighter than the original for some reason. Did you switch the cab-simulation off?
I love the sound of the Mooer! Of course a real Mesa Boogie Mark series would be sick as hell but since I'm on a budget right now I've been looking into these Micro Preamps again. I used to have a Cali Mk 3 but got rid of it because the gain wasn't right. This video sounds close, but in your experience is the 017 tight enough for metal without an additional boost? Not looking for crazy gain, but stuff like Metallica would be perfect
I think it heavily depends on the IR you're using. The build in IR sounds somewhat dull, with an IR loader like the two notes cab m you will get very good results. (The cab m also features a power amp sim and advanced EQ possibilities) I'm sure the Cali mk 3 can also sound good if combined with a better IR .
What about St. rock Amperium NNM?
Impressive that they would be so close to each other! I may look out for that one now. btw, could you do a comparison between a mooer cali MKIII and the original or the Duel Rectifier vs Mooer's version...?
Where can I find the best Mesa Boogie Mk series especially the Mark 4 sounds for the Tone X. Anybody with any suggestions please let me know. Thanks
I bought an HX Stomp XL right after firmware version 3.50 came out. I haven't yet felt the need to buy a Tonex to improve the amp/cab modeling. Then again, I only dabble in guitar, so I don't have a collection of vintage amps and cabs as a reference to compare with the models in the HX Stomp. I do realize that modelling is not perfect, but it has really improved over the past few years. Thanks for working hard to improve the quality of everyone's captures!
I appreciate that you tested the decay. Another tell tale sign of modeling is the sound of a held, distorted low chord. The worst sound like a zipper, an unnatural buzzing that is real noticeable when layering tracks.
NAM sounds awful without a Cab....That's why its there. This smells a little of disinformation a month later.
Киша нарубил, лол
Simple solution is to use a surface pro out to a audio interface like my Motu M4, then not only can I play what effects amp and cab combination I want, I can also record !! Not only that, using the touch screen, I have easy access via Cubase Live or Ableton Live etc to all my presets at my fingertips without any restrictions !! Why needs dedicated hardware? waste of money
NAM sounds a lot brighter and has some hi freq stuff going on, should be able to see it in an EQ spike.
Ого, король и шут, удивлен))
I don't own Kemper or ToneX, just enjoying the tones.. might be looking at getting a ToneX at some point though. Will you be expanding your tone packs for all of these DT albums to ToneX? The idea of picking up a DT pack for ToneX is really appealling.. I understand it's a lot of work and time consuming. My fave Petrucci tones are Live Scenes in New York, but even the albums of Awake, Images and Words, SFAM or even Six Degrees.. I mean they are all great, just different flavors. To simplify my question.. do you plan on making other DT tone packs, or eventually a big mega pack with lots of albums for ToneX?
Hi. You're right. Creating these models is a lot work since the fine tuning of the sound is a lot of work. Creating tone models for Tonex is a bit more challenging than the Kemper since it doesn't have any effects. Many of JPs sounds make heavy use of delay, phaser, Chorus, wah wah etc. Unless you're running those same effects the result will sound very differently. On SFAM that is not the case for most high gain sounds. I guess the models+ amplitube presets would do the trick. I just don't like using amplitube. 😂
Excellent comparison … major thanks!
Loved it, I´ve just bought it, I´ll try it later in the evening! thanks
One question, in the youtube demo, on the Strange Deja Vu preset, it seems to be in stereo, but there is only one preset, there are no L and R presets such as on Overture 1928. How could I achieve that stereo sound on that preset? or could you please send me the L and R presets for Strange Deja Vu?
Hi Sebastian, The Overture 1928 rhythm sounds are the only guitar tracks on the album where the left and right guitars have different amp sounds. That's why there are different models for those available. This is not that case for other songs. Since the TONEX (software and pedal) only support one preset the main Rhythm model is a mix of the two sounds. You can use the Left and Right model inside a parallel path of the Amplitube aoftware though.
Great vid, thanks. Exactly what I needed. I'm looking at the IK i/o one. Comes with tonex and will definitely use NAM.
"Promo sm"
Great vid. thanks.
Thanks for posing this. Everything sounded virtually indistinguishable but what about clean sound?
Clean sounds are generally easier to capture since they don't have those high frequencies that result from distorting the signal in high gain amps.
Man, it flat out copied that Amped Roots plugin lol I wonder if there could ever be legal issues that come up, not trying to pick on you, I have seen lots of people doing it, and I know its fine, just wondering about the future out loud. This is a very useful video especially for me, my main amp is a Mark V. Still something I like about playing a real amp, but its also really nice to be up in your neck in awesome tones via captures. I have not been able to get the free software to work that well, probably my fault, but I have been enjoying Tonex, so its all good.
The biggest difference is the power a real amp has when playing loud. Even through good and loud studio speakers you won't get the same sensation. Play the amp silently through headphones sounds and feels the same (good enough for me at least)
Something I've thought about which could be a bit iffy. So some sims are Mac only, Win only etc. If someone were to go crazy and capture 1200 epoch versions of popular sims that exist on only one platform, it could be awesome and not so great at the same time. On one hand, People could use Waves ampsims on Linux (with limited settings/captures of course). On the other hand, free-only people could really have fun and just use NAM caps of expensive ampsims. I would rather use a physically modeled plugin than a capture of that same sim, but others might not care. Food for thought I guess :)
Very interesting video and comparison. I've been watching NAM videos for a couple weeks, and just started watching Proteus videos. I liked your comparisons, and shot audio clips switching between the different sources made it much easier to listen for differences. Thanks
wtf is this shite music lol
I couldn't tell the difference between the real amp and any of the modelers including NAM. In a mix, I doubt anyone could in a blind test.
Fully agree with you and ...I reckon that Tonex + Amplitube 5 (or better Aplitube 5 with Tonex) is a great working combination ....the others still need a shoulder for the FX side and if NAM is already CPU intensive then things my get harder. Let's wait and see. Then you've learnt the mistakes you've done in the first instance but not many did so that we have today a huge numer of rubbish profiles around with NAM ...it seems that everybody is now rushing to produce NAM models even without knowing exactly how to get a decent result and they even dare to make money not selling but "requiring" donations.... of minimum 20 bucks :-(. So be aware of vultures flying around the NAM opportunity ....
By the way using Proteus with BYOD is like using a Tonex model inside amplitube. With BYOD You can create a full rig easily. I guess that's content for a whole new video. There are other on yt already (just search for BYOD and Proteus)
Nam sounded awful. The other two were very good.
There’s something wrong with his NAM captures. It is much better than that. Not sure what happened here but this is not the normal result with NAM.
Are you two sure that you're commenting on the right video? In the original video the NAM was way off, in the this( revised) video it's as close as the others in my personal opinion.
@@pwcprofiles Yes, at 4:00 in this video for example, the NAM capture has some kind of nasty extra high-end fizz that isn't there in Tonex or Proteus. Something is amiss, though, because NAM is capable of results equal to or better than those other two programs.
@@400_billion_suns Sounds like some of the DI (no cab) signal is bleeding in.
something seems off, the NAM has a high-frequency "tizz" sound to it compared to the other. In other comparison videos of NAM vs Tonex vs others, I didn't hear this.
Great video, for me the Proteus sounded much closer to the original amp than NAM, but all sounded very close and great!
Fantastic video. Thank you for all the hard work.
A revised comparison is online now. The issue with the NAM was the wrong frequency on the demo tracks. It must be 48 kHz. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/cQwFk79SE_U/видео.html
Nicely done. Nice graphics and editing. I was very excited when Tonex came out as a pedal, but I think IK Multimedia has got it backwards, they should have released an Amplitude pedal with Tonex recording as an optional software add on. I want effects as well as amps and cabs.
Developer of NAM has done his best to let people know that its meant for modeling the amp only. Lots of people have tried to model their amp+cab anyways. Some folks have good results and others do not. Just know that they are going to be adding an algorithm that IS made for "full rig" modeling but it isnt released yet.
A revised version of the rest is available now. It features amp+cab sample. I'm looking forward to seeing a dedicated algorithm for this though. My issue was tied to the 48 kHz limitation of the plugin though.
The problem I have with these videos is that it all doesn't matter. What did hendrix do with a simple fuzz pedal straight into a fender amp? First you won't hear it in the mix, second are you making music or are you fidgeting over controls? Every time I got a new piece of gear that could do a b or c I ended up studying and fidgeting with the controls and no longer making music. so, I sold all that equipment and don't buy alikes ever again. All 3 amp models will do fine on a record, in a mix you won't know. Do they inspire you to play is what matters.
True words. There is no need to have a million profile/captures/models if you don't play them. But G.A.S. (gear aquisition syndrome) is a widely spread disease among guitarist that got even worse with modeling amps. But aren't we all affected this? Otherwise gear reviews wouldn't make sense at all 😉. Basically I have two favorite amps that I play regularity at home. Yet having a way to clone these for bedroom level playing or reducing the hours on the tubes is is a great thing. That's where the Kemper, Tonex NAM etc come into play.
